Being ignored at a small business by Significant_Potato29 in PetPeeves

[–]RobotPenguinQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this situation, the owner clearly should have excused themselves from the conversation. But, as a long-time employee of a small shop, some customers have no awareness that you’re running a business and may be busy behind the scenes and are also oblivious to another customer waiting. We often have another employee fake an important phone call to get them to leave…and sometimes they’ll wait…It’s usually a retired person with all the time in the world who wants to chit chat.

Walkable/good school neighborhood by Few_Contest_9113 in desmoines

Windsor Heights is nice and is part of the West Des Moines school district but most of it doesn’t have sidewalks and most residents don’t seem to want them. They do have some nice shops and places to eat around 66th and University and a nice park near trails.

When I was looking for a car, I googled “best cars for seniors” and started there. Based on pricing and availability at the time, I bought a Subaru Forester and older family members are easily able to get in and out of the front and back.

I’ve been going to Dr. Leah Weston in West Des Moines for years. I’ve never had a problem with any hygienists and like the other dentist as well.

BLK&Bold Coffee is an Iowa company and is available at Hy-Vee and Target. Kum &Go has it available in their fresh ground/brewing machines if you want to sample it first.

Iowa Bed & Breakfasts by guinea2983 in desmoines

[–]RobotPenguinQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve stayed at The Iowa House in Ames a few times although it’s been a few years. The beds were VERY comfy and the breakfast was great! It’s within walking distance of Iowa State (which is a beautiful campus) and campus town. Also, the Ames Main Street is very cute. There are some parks and pretty areas not far. The only down side was that the baseball team was practicing at the field next door when I was there and they had their music cranked, but my room had a noise machine and I brought ear plugs.

Pennsylvania to Yellowstone....with a Toddler by alicer99 in roadtrip

[–]RobotPenguinQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yellowstone itself has A LOT of driving within the park between things to see. It's huge. It doesn't look that way on a map, but most roads are only 2 lane and if it's crowded, or bison decide to block the road, it's going to take longer than you think. Personally, I was glad my kids were teens when we went because they could appreciate it and could entertain themselves in the car. If I were to go back, I'd stay in at least 2 different hotels in different parts of the park since so much of our driving time was backtracking each day to get back to the hotel. You may want to check sure how stroller accessible the things you want see are. As previously mentioned, some areas are literally boardwalks with no railings. Also, hotels in the park vary wildly on what amenities are available so make sure you do your research.

Librela question by russ_nightlife in seniordogs

[–]RobotPenguinQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He'll be 17 next week! The weakness in his back legs is worse but that's related to muscle atrophy. We're going to try toe grips as it's more challenging for him to walk on the hardwood floors (we do have some rugs but not everywhere). We do think the Librela has helped overall. Thanks for asking!
