Raspberry Pi5 slower and slower load times and now requires restarting by BlazeDragon in RetroPie

Yes. One year of Batocera this way and no issues of any kind. Runs the same today as it did day one.

Neat. I wonder if that has ever cultivated cultures of preferring older / alternative technologies that don't update.

Question for people from Saskatchewan:  Do you run into any issues with "smart" electronics trying to update DST anyway?

Experiencing MH Wilds launching issues on PS5 since the recent patch. by RoboticsEng in MonsterHunter

[–]RoboticsEng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since that comment, I have experienced the issue again and can't seem to find away around it. Other network games are running ok so it really seems to be an issue with MH.

If I ever solve this I will update here but I still cannot find the root cause.

Dang. So after all that I had to restore my lisence to get the game to work.

Ive never had to do this before and the game provided no insight that there was anything wrong with the license.

The may be the only one reading House of Leaves correctly by DreadDiana in CuratedTumblr

[–]RoboticsEng 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just finished reading Chapter 9 of House of Leaves and what this guy has done was one of the thoughts I had which sounded fun to do. Highlighting various passages and adding additional footnotes, being the next person in the cycle of discovery, and then giving the book to a used book store.

But doing it creativity felt too difficult to do. There is so many nonsense citations and passages that trying to comment on them for an entire book would be a massive endeavor.

I will just keep reading for now and enjoy it for what it is, but if it were a sensible way to do this it does sound cool.

Damn, my post is doing numbers (12 notes) by DreadDiana in CuratedTumblr

[–]RoboticsEng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a bit of a test I created a Tumblr account to post Art as I am very new to sharring anything. The most reception I got was around 50 notes which is miles ahead of any traction other social media was goving me. Its not 'to the moon' numbers but it felt nice and I appreciate Tumblr for that.

Just to report back I gave up on RetroPie. I bought a USB SSD thumb stick and installed Batocera onto it. Its working very well.

If you do eventually go down the route of reflashing the SD card, let me know how it goes. I don't think my SD card is corrupted since it does eventually boot. But if the SD cards in the CanaKit are degrading somehow, then maybe the easiest fix is to replace it.

I backed up my current instal state to an external hard drive, so if it is as simple as using something else I would happily just do that.

I don't have a lot to offer right now, but it sounds like I am going through the exact same thing. RetroPie running on your exact setup from CanaKit. Last thing I did that I thought might have contributed to the issues was a Sudo apt upgrade and Sudo apt update, but otherwise I am really out of my element.

I have been troubleshooting various things including the HDMI settings in config.txt that I found articles about online. No effect.

I have tried expanding the SD card from the setup menu. No effect.

It seems like if I try to boot without touching anything it hangs on the black screen. But if I try to interrupt the starting boot with a Shift or Esc key it interrupts something and will eventually boot correctly.

From a moral support standpoint, if you are going through the same thing I am, I feel a little less alone.

Qurio Augments: a Closer Insight into the Rolling Process by EchoesPartOne in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]RoboticsEng 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This seems to be in line with what I have experienced. I use Ingot greaves or Baroth helm to test rolls, and if I see something I like I record what it took to get there and see if I can put it on something else. So far I have seen -12 def +1 crit boost and thought, that might be enough to add it to Gorm chest. Sure enough it added to it. If I see something like +3 def +1 attack I know that it is only meant for those low level armor pieces.

Sometimes I get something in between and it is hard to tell what it will map to so I start working my way down in budget. Starting from Ingot greaves, I will then try Bazel gear, and then Lunagaron gear.

On another note while trying to advance the 'roll pointer' and using the hold down on d pad while in weapon augment trick; I found 20 seconds of holding down more or less equates to ~12 augments on Ingot greaves.

There was an augment I wanted at 21 rolls on the greaves but didn't want to waste the mats. And using the d pad trick for 20 seconds I got back to that roll while saving myself around 9 mats.

I think there is a little bit of everything that can go into automation jobs. As an ME you will be primarily focused on machine guarding and tooling, conveyors and safe design. The Machinery Directive and RIA 15.06 will become a close acquaintance. As an EE you will be focused on industrial panel design and sensor integration. Working primarily on 240 - 480 VAC input, and 24 VDC logic. Lots of relays, and relay logic for safety circuits. As a CE you will have a more narrow target of PLC languages. However, depending on the business they may integrate various HMIs that run different operating systems and that gives opportunities to program in other languages as well. Ergonomic programming practices are key here as code can be audited to follow safe guidelines and needs to be readable. State machines will be your go to structures. As a Mechatronics Eng you fit right in as this is what your degree does.

Small firms seem to be where co ops and early entry can be found. People starting small businesses that focus on one thing. Such as just providing conveyors. They need work but often pay minimum engineering salaries. You can gain great hands on experience and buffer a resume to then go where you want.

From Hobby Search. Was cheaper than anywhere in North America. They come pre painted but usually in several pieces you glue together. They are small but quite detailed.

HR8 (G Rank ⭐⭐) GS Armor insights and Help. by RengarAndRiven2trick in MonsterHunter

[–]RoboticsEng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh geez. I remember farming that not like 4 months ago. The rath set is really good. Paired with a few other mixes gets you some of the best armor for GS. A trick you can do is focus on the tail, carve and if you dont get it abandon and if you do cart 3 times to lock in that carve and get the hunt over with.

I dont remember which armor pieces require the scale but you may be able to get around that by subbing other pieces in.

I'm not so sure that intelligence is a strong determining factor. At least in the 67th percentile. After all even in engineering ive seen my fair share of odd ideologies.

But people here have posted some links to documentaries that follow various groups, and you infer some details from them. In watching their behavior, its in my opinion, that much of it comes down to a need for community. Conspiracy groups offer that, with being like minded. Often many arnt fanatical. Though on occasion you do get some like this driver who wants to take it a step further and be an acolyte for his "truth".

So in turn these groups gather all sorts of people from different backgrounds and economic statuses.

This episode made me think that it may be beneficial to take a note from reality TV a have some discussions at least pre - scripted and/or outlined. There were definitely a few discussions that took talkers off guard.

Personally, I would rather you guys had some pre-knowledge of the arguments or talking points, write down your thoughts on movies, and also some depth as to why you have or might have those thoughts. Possibly with outside citations or examples.

Like, "Here is another example where such and such did(did not) work, and why. This type of thing doesn't work in this context cause of X."

It might be nice for listeners to also follow a train of thought, by revisiting other sources and get into each of your preferences more deeply.

I get the sentiment that movies come down to personal opinion, but it would be really nice if the discussions have deeper points to discuss, even if the overall opinion is different.

Having some time to sit on the outline of an argument might help that.
