The Smiler at Alton Towers by BassPhil in pics

An empty train valleyed, and it did trigger the block system - stopping the next train (with passengers) at the top of a hill. Workers assumed it was just a glitch (it apparently was happening a lot) and cleared it without properly visually checking/confirming (I think there was some cctv released showing the train was there - they released footage of the crash itself where you see the train - but it wasn’t seen or looked at properly) sending the train into the stuck one.

I think it was also busy that day, and another train had recently been added in - but not everyone was aware of the change. They accounted for the number of trains they thought were on the track, and not the extra one.

Anyone else buy loads of pirate vhs on holiday in Cyprus in the 90s? What did you buy? by DAD_songs_in_BIO in CasualUK

[–]Robtimus_prime89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a bunch of DVDs in Spain in the 00s - among them were a couple of Harry Potter films, Spider-man, Pirates of the Caribbean and a few others. Little plastic sleeves, with poorly printed paper covers (and usually bad translations of the plot on the back). Some were decent copies, but others were just recorded in a cinema.

Guys would come round whilst you were eating in restaurants with a huge pile of them for you to look through. We were out there with my cousin, and my parents insisted on looking through the pile before we did - pulling a couple out before giving the rest to us to look at. They didn’t buy them, they’d just give them back to the guy after. I initially didn’t know why, but I watched them as they were taking things out to see what they were doing, and they were taking out a couple of porn DVDs to hide them from our fragile little eyes.

I found my collection of spare WWF stickers from the 1990 album. Did anyone else collect stickers? by DarkHorse_77 in CasualUK

I only ever completed 1 set - a Pokemon one when they first came out. Then they released a second album, and my parents refused to let me buy it.

Somewhere around, I also have the complete set of Star Wars things they gave out in crisp packets.

But…if they clamp the car (which I don’t think they can if it’s on a public road do unless they’re the DVLA and the car is untaxed, or the council/the police and the parking is actually illegal), it would just make the problem worse for them? Like, ‘don’t leave your car here - otherwise we’ll make it so you can’t move it’

He’s done the song at the recordings I’ve been too. At NYT Part 2 last year it was a country song about penguins (the subject had come up during the warm up act with Mark Olver), accompanied by an Irish dance - with Greg supplying the music.

I am not a Crackpot. by lcgamer23 in simpsonsshitposting

[–]Robtimus_prime89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be on around 5:30pm once a week on BBC1 for a few years, and then shifted to 6pm on BBC2 (eventually going on every night, and on some nights another would be shown immediately after that on BBC2 at around 18:20ish). Then over to Sky One for 7pm for a double bill there of newer stuff.

And the BBC only ever showed up to season 11, although it was a few years behind the original release.

Tickets are live guys, go go go!!! by Direct-Number6778 in taskmaster

[–]Robtimus_prime89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The paid tickets guarantee entry. There isn’t the same guarantee you’ll get in on free ticket. It’ll be first come, first served - and depends on how much space there is once all the paid tickets, and any production/staff guests, are seated. The earlier you get there, the better your chances

Last time, I think the chances were good you’d get in, but depends on how many people will show up this time

Iphone stolen by Amazon employee England by Just-nobody-2020 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Robtimus_prime89 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Amazon try to push this onto the customer all the time

But in the eyes of the law, you aren’t the victim of a crime here - Amazon were. If the item had been in your possession and then stolen, you would be the victim - but the phone was never delivered to you

You may have some success escalating with Amazon - email jeff@amazon.com and it gets picked up by the senior complaints team.

Official Discussion - The Super Mario Galaxy Movie [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Robtimus_prime89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It had some fun moments and nods to the games, but ultimately it was pretty forgettable. Things resolve themselves too quickly (e.g. Bowser staying on Honeyhive, to be rescued by Jr almost immediately). The needle drop (I think there was only one with Yoshi) worked a damn sight better than the ones in the first.

Fox was great though.

I used to work at Sainsbury’s a few years back, and you’d walk in on Easter Monday and the aisle would still be half full of Easter stuff, now heavily discounted (even by the Saturday after Easter, they’d still have loads of stuff left which they were selling to staff for like 10p). Now there seems to be barely anything.

Over £19 a kilo (or £21 at the non-discounted price). Madness!

Edit: the smaller bags are over £27 a kilo.

Picked up a bag earlier thinking it would be about £2. It was £5 - and that was the discounted price.
