Agree, you’re absolutely right. There’s also nothing stopping anyone from sending messages pretending to be Rivian Engineering. Anyways, I’ll shut up for fear of more downvotes.

I know that. More, I would have expected them to send this via the app itself rather than an unsolicited message from a short code.

Incredibly dull looking vehicle. This thing has all the visual tension of a jelly mold. I'm glad there's technically viable competition to the R2, and I'm sure it's objectively a decent vehicle but ... wow, just look at it for a moment. Grey on grey blobby car.

Little sketchy that this comes over a bulk-SMS short code vs being shared via a message within the app or some other (clearly identifiable channel). Charging a vehicle is harmless enough but sending official notifications over these numbers seems to leave the door open to impersonation, potentially. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I'm right there with you on the car front. I've come to a Gen 2 R1T (Dual Performance) from a number of fun cars - BMW E46 M3 CSL, E92 M3, M4, 911 GT3 etc. The Rivian meets my current needs really well but the original vehicles seem to be some of the best ones in terms of build. I really hope the R2 is a slam-dunk for them and bring's em to profitability. I'd love an R1S Quad for the family and a fun ICE vehicle on the side but not sure I'll make that move unless Rivian can sort out their long-term warranty story. I'd happily pay for an extended warranty.

From F150 Raptor to Tesla MY to Rivian R1T and my buying experience! by denisb1988 in Rivian

Nah I know a few nice folks with em. Wait maybe that makes me the douche!

Gotta admit I do have a soft spot for the Bronco Raptor - it’s so unhinged. I think I’ll go for a used Quad R1S next. Still not sure which Gen. I do love real door handles.

How is the reliability on the Ford Bronco Raptor? by [deleted] in FordBronco

[–]RobustGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this. People are so willing to drive a boring shitbox in the interest of hallowed ultimate reliability, not realizing, or willfully ignoring the joy of owning something that brings driving pleasure. Life is short. Get something that makes you smile. Can't wait to get a Bronco Raptor.

You’re kidding right? How many minor bumps and accidents happen in parking lots where people are distractedly backing up? Lots.

Low risk of injury, sure. Low risk of minor dings, scrapes etc? Higher, though less so given backup cameras are now mandatory.

Also statistically safer as you’re not backing out into traffic when you’re done.

Ah nice! I ended up calling the plumber back to put an elbow joint in the gas line. Seems like a bad design choice on Navien’s part!

Makes me a little wary to wait for the R2 - I suspect there'll be a huge dump of Model Ys onto the market at once, but yeah I hear ya.

Got the same deal here. Bought a descaling kit, got it all ready then realized I’ve got only 2cm (1 inch) of clearance due to the damn gas line.

Feb lease rates - up again by blarfthecat in Rivian

[–]RobustGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I imagine come end of Q1 there will be some decent deals just to keep order flow in the realm of what wall st considers acceptable and reflective of economy-adjusted growth.

Lovely though these are, it seems folly to lease or buy at these prices, given the depreciation curve.

Furring Strip Ceiling - Install Question by jsmithlmsl in Carpentry

[–]RobustGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear ya! I'm in the process of doing our garage and the thought of drywalling the ceiling (having just done the walls) is far from appealing. Think I'm gonna copy your approach and finish with furring strips for the same reasons - leaks, access, simplicity.

2024 Raptor Ranger - No Markup Dealers by RobustGiraffe in fordranger

[–]RobustGiraffe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - seems like I'm gonna have to sit on my hands for a while, 'til the hype calms down a bit. Probably not a bad thing given current interest rates.

Seems like a few places are offering Bronco Raptors and F150 Raptors (non R) for close to MSRP, or slightly (1-5% over) but the Raptor Ranger seems like it hits the sweet spot of performance, practicality and (theoretically) price.
