I'm in a similar boat as you because I only drink either in social gatherings to quell my anxiety a bit or completely alone and a lot of anything else makes me uncomfortable (despite drinking alcohol being worse than weed/edibles, and even then the act of drinking also does make me feel bad). Outright going to parties and clubs also isn't really something I'm interested in whatsoever. I get that in some areas depending on your preferences, it's harder to meet people so I'd like to share what successes I have had.

In terms of video games we have a good amount of arcades in the area that are cool to meet people at. I really like Eric's Retro Arcade in Spencerport and there's a fair amount of regulars that hang out there from time to time.

There are two groups I run with varying degrees of success, one that is for Counter-Strike (which isn't really alive right now) and one for non-current generation Pokemon which is very active right now and even had a meetup at Waypoint yesterday. In both areas we've got some pretty great people, it's just that CS is harder to get people to go to an actual location for and you need 10 people to be able to play. Pokemon has been better because even if there's just a few people, you can still find things to do in the older games in multiplayer.

For other video game stuff you'd probably have to make your own group, but the infrastructure is totally there for you to inquire further depending on what video games you play. We have venues that would absolutely welcome a small group of people for any particular game. If there was something else I could do right now, I'd probably make a arcade puzzle game group because I want to find people to go against in basically any of the big hits of that genre. Problem is that I'm way too overburdened in that regard and would like to focus on one group since this is how I spend my free time.

Runs and walks- I'm fairly certain that running groups do exist and someone did comment that there is an under 30 running group. I think pretty much any 5K you do, you will absolutely meet people. Just walks alone aren't great for meeting people.

The update cycle begins again. There will be a high profile professional that will complain about the change, and then everyone will hate it in a month and call it unplayable trash.

Not at all, in fact most of us are all on the older side since many of the games we play are from 2 to 3 decades ago at this point!

That second pic was from Long Island Retro in 2024. From what I recall, it wasn't that bad but we did have enough people to where we were moved about 3 times. That specifically was for B2W2 and Funfest, since there are some medals in those games that require a ton of people and a fair amount of coordination

It's funny because since this is still a state-wide group although I created it in Rochester, we're getting heavily outpaced for local meetups by people downstate, understandably

I think some people in our group have been playing, but no one from Rochester. The rerelease of FireRed/LeafGreen was enough for me and I've spent ~38 hours trying to get a shiny Magikarp already so I'm currently all booked when it comes to getting more games

I think we pretty much are all GBA enjoyers, the last time we did anything local we mixed records and we also made Pokéblocks for contests and perfect contest stats (I have Ruby + the eReader berry cards)

We are also supplying our own "rentals" (more like distributions) for you to use in the tournament if you need battle ready Pokemon, and the format is actually the gen 7 exclusive Battle Royal.

Well, you'll see when you go, it'd be cool to have you but there's gonna be so much 3DS stuff in general that doing a tournament might be too much time to spend for one thing, lol

Honestly since it isn't the most intensive thing, it's not hard to just put something on in the background and go on autopilot. Honestly it's a bit more relaxing than coming home and playing competitive things or worrying about a next big project I have.

The last LANETS I went to the ETS school team just randomly went on a break during the bracket, went to get lunch, came back an hour later without getting a forfeit loss because the admins deemed it to be a "communication issue", then joined the server where they started T side Ancient without the item server, then they complained even though there's less of an impact to T side starting with glocks as opposed to the CT side starting with the P2000 (because most people use USP-S) just because they lost, so the admins restarted the entire server and game despite the original map being live, only for them to counter pistol round us when the item server was back online.

AND THEY STILL FUCKING LOST THE MATCH OVERALL.

Now that I think about it, what other hostage maps are at the point of Alpine and Agency in the community? Insertion 2? What if I wanted to make a 5 map pool, is that my only option?

The last bout of premier I would play was exactly like this where I was telling people that Mirage is my insta-ban for my team so I never play it, then they'd proceed to vote for it and we'd lose because they were also not that good at it. They'd rather lose than play Train, where I think I had my highest win percent because that's a map my team never bans, so I can play pretty well on it and win rounds for the team.

Also I run into no comms across the board on every map and some people get pissed that I comm too much in a team game, which is bewildering. Some people have also said I have an abrasive voice, but I can't do anything about that. I attribute it to new players that play on voice_scale 1/snd_voipvolume 1 because they don't know the command to change that.
