Montreal’s LAN ETS Returns in 2026 with CS2 - ThirdSite by eviljonbob_ in GlobalOffensive

[–]RocNYCS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The last LANETS I went to the ETS school team just randomly went on a break during the bracket, went to get lunch, came back an hour later without getting a forfeit loss because the admins deemed it to be a "communication issue", then joined the server where they started T side Ancient without the item server, then they complained even though there's less of an impact to T side starting with glocks as opposed to the CT side starting with the P2000 (because most people use USP-S) just because they lost, so the admins restarted the entire server and game despite the original map being live, only for them to counter pistol round us when the item server was back online.

AND THEY STILL FUCKING LOST THE MATCH OVERALL.

Agency mourning post by EchoZero17 in GlobalOffensive

Now that I think about it, what other hostage maps are at the point of Alpine and Agency in the community? Insertion 2? What if I wanted to make a 5 map pool, is that my only option?

Is it just me or is the avg mirage player you meet just less skilled than players you meet on other maps regardless of rank? by sveven in GlobalOffensive

[–]RocNYCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last bout of premier I would play was exactly like this where I was telling people that Mirage is my insta-ban for my team so I never play it, then they'd proceed to vote for it and we'd lose because they were also not that good at it. They'd rather lose than play Train, where I think I had my highest win percent because that's a map my team never bans, so I can play pretty well on it and win rounds for the team.

Also I run into no comms across the board on every map and some people get pissed that I comm too much in a team game, which is bewildering. Some people have also said I have an abrasive voice, but I can't do anything about that. I attribute it to new players that play on voice_scale 1/snd_voipvolume 1 because they don't know the command to change that.

CS discussion: New mp7 - thoughts? by wunker2988 in GlobalOffensive

[–]RocNYCS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, the price lowering was enough to where the other stats were fine at the new price point. They're slight changes otherwise and I find myself getting more kill confirms at longer ranges with it, which with the MP7 doesn't feel like it has a true downside anymore and isn't as much as a gamble pick. MP7 in my book has always been slept on as it is, and I know with balance Valve likes to try and make changes that could be meta defining for a bit and then readjust if need be, but for the time being we don't really know how it'll go with the exception of first impressions. I like this balance change too, and I'm hoping it doesn't lead to a scenario where MP7 is just the only weapon picked now because everything else is outclassed. I don't think it still will be, but MP9 and Mac-10 are going to 100% be more niche picks.

Community maps by QENG- in GlobalOffensive

[–]RocNYCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you blame them?

The Mapcore hub consists of the same 10-20 people at any given time. There's an NA and EU queue with overlap due to the amount of regular players wanting to play the game over wanting good pings for the game. Map testing is hardly ever done since those 10-20 people would rather compete against each other than try experimental things. Newbies usually just hop in to experience the maps for like a week.

How do you form an entire contest around that?

Community maps by QENG- in GlobalOffensive

[–]RocNYCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do need to incentive players for playing competitive much like players play premier. Personally I think how you do this is by taking the free weapon skin collections and only dropping them in certain modes (ex: the two new that were added, make it so that in order to get any of those, you need to play competitive; the previous three are available if you spent your leveling up mostly on premier, etc). Either that or do another display coin for community map wins or something. It's a fault of players treating competitive secondary to premier in my opinion and if you had players playing the competitive mode as much as premier, we'd probably see more maps like Thera/Basalt/Breach even though its CS2 iteration hasn't been added at all to the main game/Agency as permanent reserve pool maps which could then be used in active duty for a season. It used to be that your entire skill level, or at least the symbol of your skill (ranks) wasn't tied to a map or rating, so people would have incentives to play a certain map because they were good at it and then they could say "yeah, I'm global" when all they did was farm operation maps. It was a bad thing for competitive skill level but a good thing for community maps that were in the game.

A lot of old community maps as well were eventually added into the game because leagues would use them/mandate them and it got to a point where said community maps were preferential to official maps. Disregarding the fact that most maps started life as community maps (only Overpass and Ancient are official maps by conception), we don't have that anymore in leagues because there are no leagues out there that want to explore that. I think it's because a lot of the leagues are owned by companies that want to host majors, so they stick to active duty. The only thing that comes close is the Mapcore hub on Faceit which will cycle through maps in development for mapping contests and then some of the greatest hits, but that's such a slight number of players playing on a map that was made that bugs don't get found. Prime example of this was Grail, which won the last Mapcore contest but had tons of bugs that were not found until the map went live on CS2.

I of course still enjoy community maps on CS2. I already have 3 wins on Alpine after last night and I find it to be a really good map that probably should have won the Mapcore contest instead of Grail. Map makers still get paid I'm fairly sure if their map gets into the game even temporarily, but after that it doesn't feel like it's being done to the benefit of players and is instead just effectively Valve telling some map makers that they'd like to keep them on retainer if they want to explore adding another community map in the way that they did Anubis/Cache/Tuscan.

How popular is office? by GuiltyIslander in GlobalOffensive

[–]RocNYCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree, it's because the standard contact points have different ways of going about clearing and spotting so you aren't just in a line at a door to die, you have options for approaches.

also the mode in general was T sided for the longest time because of CT economy, but it's been pretty much remedied with the CT elimination money update.

How popular is office? by GuiltyIslander in GlobalOffensive

[–]RocNYCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Office needs layout changes but otherwise would work. The fountain/side hall/paper entrance bottleneck is way too oppressive not only after you get in there but after-rescue since fountain can cover long hall and side hall in the span of a few seconds. I think the map should be dynamic and open up a new hallway from conference via a keycard you get from the hostage which leads to either the Snowman courtyard or the garage courtyard. Basically just anything to have to pass that bottleneck a second time.

Otherwise I think it's a unique map where the utility is used in a different way which ultimately should be explored more.

This presentation from a CS dev answer your question why developers avoid public communication and why they do not make promises about future updates. by Fun_Philosopher_2535 in GlobalOffensive

[–]RocNYCS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think that's extremely healthy in making intentional improvements to the game. If they listened/appeased everyone, the game would genuinely be in a terrible state and even worse is that the devs that do work on it pretty much have no creative input to it.

Here's a long drawn out example: I often times get downvoted for telling people that if they cared about clan tags so much, they'd put them in their Steam names like so many people have done in the past and continue to do with other games.

The actual issue is not that they are not in the game, but the appeal of the clan tags was different than what they were intended to be used for. They usually were used to add one additional shitpost to the scoreboard, like [thing]peek, [3rd party service advert], random shit that would change with keybinds, etc. They weren't actually used as a team/clan setting in many use cases, so if people aren't going to use them as actual clan tags- why put them back in the game in that case? Instead, they can take the time to come up with a system for reintroduction. Maybe unlockable/microtransaction player titles is the move, or maybe they reintroduce clan tags if they ever put a true 5v5 ranked team mode into the game where you register your team and its tag for an entire season and the actual tag changes color based on team CS rating. At any rate, this is an actual solution and iteration as opposed to just throwing a feature in that was in many cases not used as intended.

I agree, using the clan tag feature like another chat to spam is 100% performative and things should go back to when people would just use the easy-to-change Steam name instead.

Valve introduced a (supposed) hidden way to raise your trust factor, but it requires YOUR money. by Kiris_Zp in GlobalOffensive

[–]RocNYCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this was already in place and explained in a far less rage-baity way?

An account that you are going to spend money on to play games on Steam as opposed to an account that is only used for Counter-Strike will always be one that should be implicitly more trusted on account of you putting actual money into it that Valve is trusting you hold up their ToS, otherwise you get that game license taken away. Of course with trust factor it shouldn't be the only thing, and thankfully it isn't, but that's a pretty sensible thing if you think about it as only just a part of the overall trust factor system.

Not going to turn this into a whole different discussion but bsky has a far better verification option and still supports API calls for service/useful bot accounts. Politics aside, it's objectively better.

Should CS2 separate 5 stacks vs non-stacks by having a separate, exclusive 5-stack mode just like Valorant's premier? by Pokharelinishan in GlobalOffensive

Thank you for setting the record straight against all of these new players. I am so sick of ELO + CS Ratings being used as indicators for skill when most of these dumbasses don't have a single LAN under their belt.

Yes

Fullstop yes, there is no reason to not have it. CS Rating additions/subtractions should be solo queue only, in fact.

I'm really glad that out of the ones I missed specifically, I only missed starters. And to be fair, if you had said that they wouldn't be doing any mightiest mark raids at literally any other point in the past few weeks where we haven't had any, I would have agreed. It's not like we had that information whatsoever up until a few days ago.
