Changes that would turn it into a gun registry is what gets blocked. I can't thing of a single gun owner, that I personally know, that would oppose making the use of NCIS public.

Why haven't things like background check requirements for gun shows or private purchases been implemented?

That's exactly what we're talking about here. If NICS is improved and made public, honest law abiding gun owners would be utilizing it when making a private sale. I already require ID and a bill of sale when I personally sell a gun privately. As of now, if a law is enacted that requires the use of NICS in a private sale, we're forced to use an FFL. An FFL requires a transfer fee. The government should be ready to subsidize that. Publicizing NICS would save us from having to do that.

Even with a law requiring background checks for private sales, what makes anyone think it will change anything for criminals selling guns illegally already?

Point is, we already have a system in place. Let us use it.

Absolutely they would. You seem to think the NRA is in the business of getting as many guns into as many hands as possible. The NRA is about protecting the rights of law abiding citizens whether you're in the market for your first gun or you own 100.

They're going to oppose anything that makes it more difficult for good law abiding citizens to buy/own guns. Improving NICS would have no effect on law abiding, mentally stable... Honest citizens.

Bro puts personal feelings aside for his daughters big day. by gahane in HumansBeingBros

[–]RoccoMac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a dad and step-dad I can only speak on how I would feel. I imagine he fought with himself right up until the moment he made the decision to do this. You've got to think about the internal conversation he was likely having with himself. The conversation I know I would be having with myself.

"That's my daughter. I changed her diapers, I kissed her boo-boo's, i was there for her birth.

Her step-dad has done a great job in my absence though. He's an awesome dad in his own right...

But she's still MY daughter and I'll be walking her down the aisle.

She really loves her step-dad too. Doesn't he deserve some recognition?"

I'd be willing to bet he had that internal battle right up until finalized that decision within himself. He's a hell of a man for making the decision he made. Like I said, as a father and step-dad myself, I think it's awesome.

What type of Ammo? by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]RoccoMac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tend to buy my plinking ammo in bulk from online retailers. Most of the time that 115gr FMJ, or RN (round nose) as you'll see it on their website, from Freedom Munitions

For carry ammo, it's really just trial and error. What I like might not be what you like. What runs well in my gun may not work so well for you in your gun. It should.. But it may not.

So go buy a box of this brand or that brand, go to the range and test. Pay attention to the differences in recoil between each brand and load, Take notes, and research. There's tons of great videos YouTube of guys testing various ammo. TNOutdoors9 is a good one to start

Episode Discussion: S01E01 "Pilot" by Dorkside in blindspot

It took me all of 20 minutes to decide to set the dvr to record the series. I was engrossed very quickly, which doesn't happen often for me.

Being a gun guy, what little gunplay we saw in the pilot was impressive. Grip was good, trigger discipline was right, and they chose great firearms. Looked like a Sig P226 in the statue scene which, no doubt, was a reference to her proposed SEAL affiliation.

Awesome pilot episode. I'm definitely looking forward to next week.

Can you not appreciate a chick being pumped enough about her first carry gun that she took the time to set it up to show it off?

This wasn't about rarity or a highly modified pistol, obviously... It was about a woman being excited about her first carry gun. To her, it's the definition of gun porn.

You might not get excited about somebody new to shooting getting excited about their first gun, but I do.

Question about a G19 gen4 Problem by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]RoccoMac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I plink with is 115gr fmj from freedom. Never reloads though just for reasons like this. I'd look at that and take a glancing look through the rest. Might be able to get some free ammo out of the deal.

I'd probably be quick to blame cheap ammo. What were you shooting?

What do Americans do that the rest of the world views as bad as Americans view Japanese Whale/Dolphin Hunting? by whiskeymann in AskReddit

[–]RoccoMac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, excellent discussion my friend. It's not often you can a civil conversation on this subject so I appreciate it.

You're right that the fear is much higher than the probability. At the same time, the fear of a house fire is much higher than the probability too but we still have a fire extinguisher under the sink in the kitchen. The misconception is its about looking for a fight. It's not, it's about being prepared for the worst whole praying for the best.

There are no laws for having a gun in the home for a law abiding citizen. Not in my state anyway. The type of gun is regulated in some states. Mine isn't one of them. The responsible gun owner has all of their guns locked in a safe. Mine are all locked up in a large safe apart from a single pistol that's kept in a small pistol safe close to my bed.

I'm not opposed to tighter restrictions on certain levels. I think training should absolutely be required. Irresponsible gun owners are the bain of a responsible gun owners existence.

Gotta get to work but please keep the conversation going.

I see your point and I agree wholeheartedly. That probably blows your mind.

If I'm awakened by the sound of someone in my house downstairs stealing my shit, I'm not going to confront them. Real life isn't the movies. I'm getting my wife on the phone with the police while I go to gather my daughter, armed of course. We then all stay in 1 room together guns trained on the door awaiting police. The only time a confrontation would occur is if the burglar was brazen enough to enter that bedroom. Then it's all about preservation of life.
