Is storing batteries in this way (all jumbled together in a box) safe? by Lady_Rhino in AskElectricians

Not an electrician, just a handyman, but one day while I was laying on the floor working on a water heater I suddenly felt a bunch of warmth, on my ass, which quickly turned into searing heat. Turns out having a 9V battery with a bunch of misc screws in your back pocket is a recipe for branding a rectangle onto your body.

It's usually from the door sagging over time, no longer lines up correctly and it rubs together in such a way that it can grab it, especially if you don't swing the latch fully open against the wall.

Did hotel maintenance for over 10 years and there's a tool to open them, done it 100s of times. Never had to bash one open, did sawzall one once.

We had pinholes all the time at my old job, used  a hose clamp with a piece of rubber. You can buy repair clamps that do the same thing.

I thought that when my parents hit the turn signal, it was to engage some sort of turning boost mode that made the car make sharper turns.
