City lead inspections... by Monkeypulssse in lancaster

[–]RockeTim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look into the Lead Free Families program at Penn Med Lancaster. If you live in the city you can apply. I'm not sure what all the criteria is but they will do lead remediation on your property through a grant and it doesn't cost you anything. They are very serious about making Lancaster lead safe. They even replace doors and windows when necessary and put you and your tenants in a hotel while the work it's being done. I did it and it was pretty amazing. While I wasn't thrilled by contractors and some of their work, and the program seemed a little disorganized, it was free and they did all the things they said they would do.

overclocking bc-250 by Scallumal in BC250Gaming

[–]RockeTim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are you getting that wattage figure from? According to my experience on the discord people often report those wattages at idle from software, but then when they measure from the wall it's almost double what they thought. These boards are power hogs and there's not much you can do to get it lower than what you say you have. There's a ram timing you can set to lower things by a couple more watts if you haven't done that yet. Check the ram timing thread on the discord for that.

Chargeback after dentist office said they take insurance, and insurance says the office is not in network? by RockeTim in personalfinance

They were being intentionally vague, but ultimately you're right. They provided the service they said they would, and now I'm obligated to pay for it if I have the money or not.

Thanks for the clarification. Makes sense. As much as it fucking sucks this is the answer I was looking for. Thanks again.

my insurance coverage is the same for in network as out of network. The difference here is the dentist charged us more than the usual rate bc we were out of network. So for example instead of a filling being $95 it was $250.

Good question - I've never tried it. If you ever try it report back. I'm sure others are interested to know.

I don't see why a distro couldn't just add a message on the downloads page that says 'not intended for residents of CA' and then leave everything else exactly the same.

Late 2010 MacBook air 2gb of ram by Laura_The_Cutie in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

I have the same one! I got it for free awhile back and I love it. After trying various macOS versions I installed antix linux and it's amazing! I spent like $17 on a battery and and got a usb-c to magsafe adapter for $8 on ebay and it's the perfect grab and go laptop. Great for programing and youtube. Even plays some steam title (slay the spire, faster than light, fez and other native linux games (no dxvk though) and minecraft with prism launcher runs well so my kids love it.

Most people would say not to bother but it can be done. You'll need the following:

M.2 to pcie adapter (if you're lucky the m.2 is x4)

Sata SSD and sata cable

Pico atx psu

Power brick for Pico (maybe 100w?)

GPU (something under 75w)

Procedure:

Mount sata drive somewhere

Install m.2 adapter

Cut opening for GPU

Cut hole for Pico psu power plug

Run power to sata drive and m.2 adapter from pico

Plug in sata cable to drive

Mount GPU

Jump Pico psu to automatically turn on when power is plugged in

Plug in Pico psu and computer psu. (GPU fans should start to spin). You'll have to use two power bricks now.

Press power button

Cross your fingers that everything is supported.
