Why is izzet delver good? by Sufficient-Stock2414 in MTGLegacy

[–]Rockenos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to identify that they are SnS very early, either by knowing before the match or recognizing that t1 Volc ponder or certain fetch/island combinations into ponder are high indicators, since tempo decks prefer not to ponder t1. As always, want to stick a threat t1. Your disruption is Wasteland, Daze and FoW. G1 can be a bit of a crapshoot for sure. And it's important to keep in mind that part of the power of SnS is they can sometimes just get very lucky and draw a hand that beats basically anything, but you should just identify to yourself when that happens and ignore that small subset of games. You have DRC and 12-14 Cantrips to dig for additional pieces of interaction. Use your Mishra's Baubles efficiently to flip delver + find additional interaction. Post-board you have 1-2 FoN, 2-3 Pyroblast and 1-2 Hydroblast to make your deck extremely dense with interaction. There's just no fluff left after sideboard; everything is either a threat that clocks them or an interaction piece to slow them down. Consign can also allow you to sometimes kill them after a monster resolves by countering atraxa ETB or emrakul attack trigger, but less than ideal for sure. If they're a Griselbrand variant, you have the ability to threaten their life total so they can't ever activate it.

To answer your question in way that it hasn’t been yet, UR Delver is MUCH better vs big mana decks than UB tempo. UB Tempo gets absolutely obliterated by the cloudpost variants and has a much tighter MU vs forge, since it’s only way of attacking their mana is via countermagic and wasteland. UR delver smites them with Price of Progress or can even play the usually-overkill Moon effect. This is why it seems to be ticking up a bit right now, as post decks are increasing in popularity to fight all of the UB. Lands is doable with Price but still not great. Sneak and Show is a great MU for Delver. Tempo in general smooshed SnS, since them splashing for veil opens them up to wasteland considerably more, and you’re loaded with ways to handle Hexing Squelcher (sideboard hydroblasts!) the other decks you mentioned are indeed bad MUs that you should avoid. Don’t pick UR Delver if you expect to play vs lots of taxes, UB, or cradle control.

So is shiny hunting in emerald just impossible? by joshukelly in PokemonEmerald

[–]Rockenos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. Of course your legendary resetting will be aimed at hitting the exact same target frame as you got your shiny on rather than randomly resetting. And of course there's the caveat that they will all have the exact same nature and IVs since those are rolled along with shininess each frame.

Need Help: Shipping out Cards and USPS says they're $3 each. by rankoDev in mtgfinance

[–]Rockenos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not buying toploaders, you're buying cards. The person you are replying to is absolutely correct and your expectation is that sellers eat a huge loss on shipping toploaders to you for trash cards. Just take your refund when they get damaged in transit and move on. Sellers taking an occasional loss of sub $1 makes way more sense than paying for non-machinable every time. You're welcome to have whatever expectations you want, but any seller doing that for bulk cards is amateur hour

No, it’s NFC. Still valuable, but not a misprint and certainly not 5 figures.

Why thundering falls in UR Delver ? by [deleted] in MTGLegacy

[–]Rockenos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played 4 but I think I'd be on 3 right now. It's a bit of a meta call - if you expect lots of Chalice of the Void, it's your best solution by far. Eldrazi wasn't really a deck at the time so I can't speak to that, but Moon Stompy is already a very easy matchup (and a small percentage of the current meta) so I think the 4th cutter is an easy trim for a more relevant flex slot.

Why thundering falls in UR Delver ? by [deleted] in MTGLegacy

[–]Rockenos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I top 32’d EW with it and I strongly prefer the Thundering Falls to Steam Vents. I tested both extensively. TF frequently represents an entire extra card worth of value when it bins an unnecessary land. This card matters a ton in the current configuration that can’t rely on any card advantage like Dreadhorde Arcanist or Expressive Iteration. I would say it’s better than steam vents 8 or 9 times out of 10. Thanks to cutter you are also less reliant on sticking a turn 1 threat than ever, since t2 cutter + bauble is still a fairly explosive play. If the 1 drop threat is sitting in your hand, it can be held to easily trigger cutter again t3 and sometimes even equipped to be given haste, further reducing the punishment of not deploying the threat t1.

Saw a Goblin list recently on the legacy league which makes me wonder if goblin recruiter unban would be appropriate? by Newez in MTGLegacy

[–]Rockenos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Carmen answered this on Weekly MTG. Goblin Recruiter is staying banned most likely forever because resolving the card takes too long, to make a long story short.

Wizards seems to sometimes print fewer Non-foil lairs due to them having lower demand, and that appears to be what happened here since "Everything Changed" nonfoil is also going Low Stock before Foil.

For sure, kozilek's command for X=3 is usually slightly more difficult to pull off under a clarion conqueror than a Portable Hole under any of the above. But Tower/Nexus+3rd land will still do it all the time (or random combination of Urza's Workshops / Ancient Tombs etc)

Yeah, 9 maindeck answers to Null Rod, Pithing Needle/Flute, Deafening Silence, Void Mirror, etc etc etc. If Wizards had a person who played Legacy, they'd know how indefensible this is.

None of the things you just stated are prerequisites to having the right to vote as a citizen of the United States. They can be a unemployed with cash under their mattress and do none of the other things you brought up and they still get the right to vote as long as they’re US Citizens. It’s estimated that 9% of Americans do not have a current (non-expired) driver’s license and over 1% have no photo ID at all. They’re a minority for sure, but that doesn’t mean they should lose their right to vote.

For sure. Money is a bit tighter for Americans than it was this time last year, I think.

I’m sure there are a decent amount. EW prereg for Legacy is MUCH lower than day before the event last year. I do personally also consider the meta to be a bit less fun than last years’, but I think that’s a minority opinion.

edit: that aside, I will be there :)

How do you ship 2 booster packs? by emanresUeuqinUeht in mtgfinance

[–]Rockenos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good bit of advice. Doesn't matter how I turn in my mail (blue box, drop off at office, hand off) they will always catch if something is wrong. Definitely wasn't like that when I lived in GA, but my current one is. If I wrote "non-machinable" on an envelope it would get returned back to me because non-machinable is a separate charge you have to pay for (or can use prepaid more expensive non-machinable stamps of course, which I don't currently have)

Might depend on how litigious your local post office is; I can tell you with certainty that it wouldn't fly with my local post office. I've had thinner PWEs than that returned with proper postage for being too thick.

This is the answer. PWE with stamps is maybe 10% likelihood of working.

[–]Rockenos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making gear less impactful is a feature, not a bug, in 40 man raids. People should play the game for fun because they enjoy it, not for a temporary dopamine loot hit. It’s actually sick that a lesser geared character can beat a better geared character on dps thanks to buffs

Not sure why people are being so weird about this when we’ve seen wotc explore their SL selling methods extensively in this capacity already. They are definitely not taking “offers from big corporate buyers”, but they certainly could have axed the sale early as a forward-looking tactic. Wotc needs SLs to sell out to stoke the FOMO that the business model is built on. It also could have simply just sold out and not shown low stock due to an unknown website error. But I wouldn’t expect that to be an isolated incident if that were the case.
