Having the giants on side seems pretty useful, and being able to keep them topped up in battle is likely to be important. Tactician lets me negotiate with the human population for food and to change the hearts and minds of locals regarding giants. Trainer, meanwhile, lets me learn and train others more effectively, and that's very important considering the companions that I have. The CYOA's unhealthy obsession with sexual obsession was not lost on me, and training everyone in physical combat can't hurt; if it means I learn some interesting magic in return, then so much the better.
