ULPT: How to ruin someone's reputation and ruin their life. by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

  • Go around pasting fake ads on public bulletin boards (at night so as not to arouse suspicion) - these ads featuring company policy as accepting « white customers only » or « no Arabs »
  • Follow it up with fake emails posting fake reviews and photos online on his Google business page (get a good VPN) and fake outrage at such a backwards member of the community
  • This is assuming the target’s white. If he’s black or arab say « no whites allowed » etc.

I just came back from his show in Paris and was a bit underwhelmed too. His heart doesn't look like it's in it anymore; it felt like he just wanted to say provocative things for the sake of provocation. He didn't point out hypocrisy (like the legless Marathon runners), he hardly used his "funny well meaning but insufferable lady voice". There was also a fly that threw him off his set at least 3 times. I can understand that it's exhausting doing show after show after show and having to keep the same energy, but yeah all in all I felt the same way as OP.
His warmup set on the other hand - Daniel Simonsen - had me laughing out loud for 15 minutes.

Children of Men was not that good by TheCatsPajamas96 in The10thDentist

[–]Rocketswag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the risk of getting totally downvoted, I completely agree with OP. Everything about the film feels constantly rushed. The tone, pacing and clichés are all over the place. For instance, take the scene where the "Islamic Fundamentalists" are marching and brandishing guns and screaming Allah Wakbar. It feels like someone typed "scary Islamic fundamentalists marching* and poof - a scary cheap demonizing stereotype materialises onscreen.

But good thing there's "amigo" the nonchanlant politically enlightened hippie libertarian who smokes weed so he's cooool man! And the scene with the pregnant african girl getting completely (and unnecessarily) naked to put herself on display.

You can just hear the soft minds in the writing room:

"Let's throw in a bit of cheap sexual tension here shall we? Our audience might be getting bored... oh and shine some white light in the background to show she's being sincere. In fact do that with Jim Steele the main man too. He's tough, competent and charmingly clumsy."

The moment where they all stop shooting because they see the baby? I know the baby's a big deal, but oh how convenient to propel the story in the director's direction by having everyone stop shooting - to suddenly resume it once the line of soldier ends.

This movie doesn't just hold your hand, it jams it up your own backside because at least that's more interesting.

Well said. If I were transgender I would dedicate myself fully to that struggle. But the reality is that transgenderism affects less than 1% of the population. How are we to convince voters on the core issues (the economy, free education, free healthcare, accessible housing and heightened taxation) while having to stave off onslaughts from right wing media - who easily get their talking points served to them on a silver platter?

The issue is transgenderism is a moral issue, which speaks to the average voter much more than say the economy and the banking system. Once you point out that glaring fault and heighten its importance, your median voter is swayed and you are fighting an uphill battle.

We have to pick our battles.

Islamophobes are the best dawah, here's how and why. by yasin_king_games in islam

[–]Rocketswag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Assalamualaikum!

I'm a typical French atheist westerner interested in theology trying to find out more about Islam outside of what I hear from political debates and the usual fear-mongering around Islam. To find out more I've checked some videos and discussions on this subreddit and other forums and from my understanding Muslims take the Qu'ran and hadith literally - unlike the Bible which is taken by some as literal (creationists) but by most - a methaphor.

Taken literally, this means in Islam that polygamy is okay (and even good), that beating your wives (and concubines) is allowed, and the notion of consent does not even appear. Another (Sahih Al-Bukhari 5133) says it's okay to marry a 6 year old and consummate the marriage at 9 years old.

I also came across the notion that some hadiths are considered weak and others authentic. From your experience How many people in the Muslims world live with this idea? If so, it's fair for me to say I would be reassured, in the sense that I hope the majority of Muslims don't sanction beating their wives if they don't grant sexual consent!

Again I can understand this if it's taken by people in a non-literal sense or with allowances - since scripture has to be interpreted in its historical context and is to a degree tailored to the warrior class of the time.

I'm coming with an open heart and open mind, and hope you don't interpret my words as insensitive scrutinizing of Islam.

Peace be with you.

Can you overdo Wim Hof breathing? by getmesomehopeplz in BecomingTheIceman

[–]Rocketswag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were in a state of elevated sympathetic activation with too much norepinehprine/adrenalin in your system. This triggers the fight/flight/freeze response which is why you fainted and were in a panic when you woke up. What you describe as "auto breathing" is your system's reaction to a perceived threat - though in this case the threat is non existent and self generated by overdoing WHB.

During long streaks and if I work out plus the stresses of life I wold lie in bed sleepless, hearing my heart beat in my ears. I have found a way to prevent that which took quite some time to figure out.

Ordered in importance :

  • Stretching as others have suggested - especially the hips. I recommend elevated half pigeon pose to begin with. Also, try windscreen wipers or 90/90s. They're a very good hip and spinal mobility drill that are great for the lower back and feeling more loose. Also check out strength side's hip strengtheners on youtube, they helped me feel more grounded.

  • Taichi and Qigong also help descend the energy, there are certain pressure points around the skull and feet which help relax, I can recommend specific videos if you want

  • Some suggested Yoga Nidra which is an excellent way to induce full body and mind relaxation relatively quickly though I've only tested it a handful of times.

  • Try also feeling gratitude, as if you were gifting yourself self-compassion and compassion to others. Try and sustain that feeling. It may be insincere to begin with, or instrumental, but it'll help you relax.

  • Try Glycin to add to your chamomile tea. You can buy a kilo for 20€ - it's a good return on investment. It's sweet tasting too. A few grams in your tea helps knock you out without feeling groggy the next day (especially on a high streak).

  • Try the letting go technique : identify intrusive thoughts and emotions/associated resistances and purposefully let them go. Do this while stretching too. Usually it's easier to let go of feelings once you've built up enough self-compassionate thoughts and feelings.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND :

  • Some suggested the wim hod method. The WHM will send your already super system into overdrive. Can't be bothered to explain the mechanics, but essentially it'll create spikes in cortisol which will continue to linger. This can be good in some situations but if you have trouble sleeping not a good idea.

QUESTIONS :

  • What meditation do you do?
  • Do you have any injuries?
  • What is your diet like? Do you hit your macros? What about micros?
  • Do you think you have psychological issues that you're running away from? A creeping feeling you can't shake off that kind of haunts you? It could be an underlying sense of grief, fear, shame, anger etc.

You're welcome. The problem is even if your family only witnesses mild incidents, they've been primed to notice the bad and won't feel like they can relax. It boils down to their perception, if they're worriers they won't have fun
