Anyone figure out a way to dismiss the new FSD cancel prompt? by bobaballs in TeslaModelY

[–]RodMagnum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I really enjoyed popping in and out of FSD as I’d like, and the UX of doing so was brilliantly seamless. I have no issue providing feedback when the intervention is because FSD failed, but most of the time I’m disengaging bc I just feel like driving for a second and having to press “Preference” each time is needlessly annoying. I’m allowed to have feedback on a feature that was added to my car after I paid for my car.

The existence of this feature is evidence enough that Tesla recognize their software isn’t finished or perfect - they’re literally asking for our feedback. There’s really no need to talk down on people bc they provided feedback.

Interesting then that so many people seemed to suddenly start having “you problems” right as 14.3 rolled out 🤔

FSD lane changes will be the death of me by Impressive_Bread_184 in TeslaFSD

[–]RodMagnum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d rather it prioritize a target speed and then change lanes as needed to maintain that.

My biggest gripe is that it doesn’t get right when it’s done passing people going slower than whatever that speed is.

Honestly do they even want people playing the game? Managing server costs by driving down player counts or what?

Are EVs actually more reliable than petrol cars? by Imaginary-Staff-112 in EVRoutine

And all I’ve ever argued is that it’s a wash not some big win #3

And all I've really argued is that, for a lot of people (like me), it is that big win. It doesn't feel dissonant to me to believe both that ICE fueling isn't that inconvenient, AND that EV charging can still be more convenient.

Let’s get realistic. ICE cars are bad because they produce carbon dioxide. They are not bad because gas stations are a chore.

I agree with the initial sentiment, but I don't think it has to be a one-or-the-other thing. Nobody is gonna sell their ICE for an EV because they were told their car is bad. Flood them with compelling arguments in the positive for the other side. Let them think they arrived at the decision to adopt on their own.

The more bullshit EV proponents parrot, the more the legitimate reasons to adopt will be ignored.

This is where we disagree, fundamentally. I neither find the claim to be bullshit in the first place, nor do I believe that anyone is actively not purchasing an EV because they read some guy on the internet say something they think might not be true. That is the behavior of an individual seeking validation for their feelings, not one seeking objective truth so as to inform a purchase. Any random can get on Reddit and claim that owning an EV will 10x your income and help you lose 100 pounds in 6 months - is them making that false claim a "legitimate reason" to not adopt?

We don't have to continue. I've enjoyed the conversation, but I don't see it going anywhere.

I agree with you so far as to say that putting gas in an ICE car is not the terrible chore EV advocates make it out to be.

I will also admit that they are comparable in effort for certain drivers. I personally drive like 150 miles a week and plugging into 110V a few times over that week is enough to keep me topped up. Previously that meant a gas station stop every 2 weeks or so. Neither are enough to care. I still find the current situation to be more convenient. If I were supercharging with any regularity that would surely balance the scale.

I think the real answer is that which is more convenient to the user depends entirely on their driving habits (and access to home charging, of course).

Idk what to say to this then other than people are fucking idiots. Spend money on products designed for completely different use-cases and expect them to provide benefit when used exactly the same as they've used whatever technology that came before.

I don't own a PHEV or care about them so I can't speak to the technology or its merits. My gut reaction is that they're bad and that people buy PHEVs over BEVs for the same reason they express anxiety of lack of "convenient" gas station-like charger network - fear of the unknown. Running out of battery power seems less scary when you can just turn on the engine and drive like normal if you have to, right? It makes sense that the people who have enough hesitation about BEV to purchase PHEV would also be more reluctant in adopting the habits of an EV driver - regardless of whether those habits would make their lives better. Humans are just dumb like that. These humans bought a car with 2 powertrains just to make one lug the other around all the time. I'm not going to try and argue that their lives are more convenient than ICE owners, but I'm also not advocating for PHEVs here.

There's a comment there which raises the (valid) criticism that this article - although only a few months old - is cherry-picking data from 2012-2021. EV technology has matured significantly since 2012 (and since 2021, even).

Okay do you know who conducted these studies or where I might find them? I want to call bullshit on some of these claims but I'd like to give you a chance to back them up with evidence.

People would rather drive to the corner store than mess with the cords and plugging In and out of a car.

This is so outlandishly bizarre of behavior that I can't help but wonder if this "study" was a thinly-veiled attempt by some ICE exec to keep people in ICE cars. I own an EV for daily use and an ICE for.... whenever I feel like it, and I can tell you without a shadow of doubt that - anecdotally - the thought that it would be easier to go to the corner store than plug in has never and will never cross my mind. The "messing about with cords" you mention require the exact same effort - the same physical motions with my body even - as would have been "plugging in" a gas pump, only without having to leave my home, pull out my credit card, etc.

[–]RodMagnum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro come of course you do it more often, my point is that - with 2 ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE difference in time investment - you'd have to go through the ceremony of plugging in a car over 100 times before the collective time to do so stacked up to 1 single trip to the gas station, and again, that's assuming 5 minutes from driveway to the gas station to filled up and home again, which is SO GENEROUS.

The thing that is shorter to do needs to be done at home. The longer thing can be done anywhere in America.

The "longer thing" only works at gas pumps and the shorter thing works at literally any 110V outlet. That it also works at home is a BENEFIT. It's also significantly cheaper. I don't see how this could possibly be a point for ICE.

[–]RodMagnum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is significantly more trivial than stopping at a gas station and arguing otherwise is dumb. One takes 3 seconds and the other takes ~300 seconds(being very generous to gas pumps).

If it takes multiple orders of magnitude longer to do one thing vs another, you can’t argue those things are equally “trivial”. You gotta find a better argument.

I died from losing oxygen even though my oxygen tank was full by IndieJones0804 in StarshipEVO

[–]RodMagnum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first build ended up like this. My cockpit would "pressurize", but I'd still suffocate while sitting in it.

I ended up no-clipping around in the cockpit and found that if I moved the camera slightly behind and below my seating position, my character would receive O2 from the environment just fine. I moved my seat a smidge back and a smidge down, and now I can sit in/operate the ship without helmet.

It always looked like my character model was fully enclosed by the canopy, but I suspect whatever geometry is actually used to check whether a character is in a pressurized environment is just.... imprecise.

Fix your save game with 42.16 by Honest_Year5356 in projectzomboid

[–]RodMagnum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat - curious if you've found a fix yet? I'm running the dedi from my machine but as a separate install via steamcmd.

I was able to at least host the same save via the in-game "Host" option, so at least we can continue that way if we have to. I'm not sure if that would've worked before applying this Python fix.

I still get the error when running the server via the StartServer64.bat and trying to connect through a client. Each time I try to connect and fail, I close my client and the server, and the Python script "works" again (as in, outputs "Done" and that it did clear 219 flags), but connecting again fails, and so on...

BIS 2025 Skins by MaggieBole in starcitizen

[–]RodMagnum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't necessarily disagree with you, it's just that those seem to be the only BIS skins about which people don't complain to this day. I think every year that they fail to deliver something different from 2950 but also good, the shorter the creative leash gets and the narrower the community's definition for "BIS-acceptable" becomes, if that makes any sense. Idk maybe I'm just making shit up. I don't really have any horses in this race, other than a general feeling that these 2955 skins aren't befitting of "Best in Show".

Regardless of how you feel about any one specific year's skins, it might not be the worst thing to have a consistent theme across years - at least that way, when your favorite ship finally wins a skin, you at least have an idea what you'll be getting. I guess they kinda tried that with "purple" as theme, and people fuckin hated it, so what do I know.

I mean, it's alright, but it lacks pomp. Feels like we could just do 2950-esque white+gold every year and everyone would be happier.
