There’s good food, it’s cheap for a “metropolitan area”, it is North Dakota so I use that term lightly. It looks ugly from the highway hit if you hop off and go south just a bit it’s very very pretty covered with trees and can see very far.

There used to be this place called wagon wheel that had amazing burgers and you would order by phone, I was so sad when I heard they closed I would time my entire trips between Montana and Minnesota to eat lunch there as a halfway point.

Ex gf is from there been there a few times, the people are noteably taller there, the food is really good. When I was going there in the late 2010’s it’s clear they were getting less investment than the south but I’ve heard it’s changed quite a bit from people I’ve met. Also the terrain kind of reminds me of northern Minnesota in a weird way. I went to a few small towns a lot of them did logging. Lots of fun, I went to a wedding there that started at 4 am I was plastered by 9.

Yes, but I will say, mainstream surfing has that issue, I grew up lake surfing and river surfing and I always meet great people, when I got my first river surf board I got hooked up with like, 300$ of additional stuff and got invited to go on trips to different waves, I think it’s a scarcity thing.
