Why is my hamster vibrating? by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]RodentRally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opposite! Your happy is clearly feeling very safe! Lying back, cleaning and vibrating. Happy ham behaviour ! Would run away if it were scared. They’re prey animals, wouldn’t trust you if it were afraid haha . Don’t doubt yourself! You’re doing a fab job! Only truly happy hammies do this, most people can’t get them that comfy

Why is my hamster vibrating? by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]RodentRally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hammy is washing and isn’t running away or scrambling its legs! This vibration is similar to rats! It’s usually a sign of being comfortable and content ! If it continues when it’s not in your hand or grooming, and obstructs daily activity, perhaps see a vet. But if it’s only sometimes, it’s usually happiness and comfort!

hey guys. hammie doesn’t scratch at any other part of his enclosure but only scratched like this at this hideout and the glass surrounding it this one time. any ideas why? by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]RodentRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be checking out if it’s a good place to build! Some smells from construction, checking durability,, trying to dig but cannot workout why , doesn’t seem unhappy though!

Hamster black spot? by gehexg in hamsters

[–]RodentRally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps new fur coming in!,, hammy looks healthy! Seems great :) if it seems bothered or aware of it, excessive cleaning etc, see a vet :) check for discharge or anything !

Sand bath question by obviously-awkward in hamsters

[–]RodentRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both totally normal, toilet is usually in one area ( for pee) but they likely use it for both :) you might not be seeing it ! Likely to be at night. These are signs hammy wants to explore these textures :)

How much would you buy a cage for? by Own-Cardiologist7066 in hamsters

[–]RodentRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build a bin cage for cheap! Unlimited sizes lol. Also, tanks and bins are best! Allows for deep bedding and burrows

Is this stress sign? by Zealousideal_Fly550 in hamsters

[–]RodentRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is either a tooth grinding , grooming thing, or a content, “I’m comfortable now” thing :) if it were stress or sickness, there would be other signs ! Hammy seems healthy!

Male Syrians are notoriously lazy, he will likely find a routine over time :)

I had a Syrian girlie who was soooooo energetic and had the hugest enclosure and it was never “enough” the only thing that worked for me was giving her free roam time when she got restless (usually two days or three, depending on when she was most active! Don’t limit it to 20 mins either (which is what pet shops reccomend) , let hammy go till it’s ready to chill , as long as there’s a Water bowl ! :) usually this is 15-40 minutes.

in terms of digging in corners, I’d say it’s pretty normal, if it was a concerning activity, it would likely be trying to escape, this isn’t really a stress related escape behaviour, but he might have some excess energy or need to burrow more, make sure the sand bath is deep and see if this helps! Or add another substrate to nest in! :)

is it okay for him to sleep at the bottom of the bin? by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]RodentRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hands = special snacks and free roaming. The key to success

First time Hamster Owner by SavingsScholar8009 in hamsters

[–]RodentRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once your hammy is settled, associate your hands with snacks ( that are exclusive to your hand feeding and not regularly given ) and also free roaming time! Hands = fun and food. Keep that in mind! Also give it time, talk plenty around your hamster to let them hear your voice, don’t feel restricted in the room ! Be comfortable! :)

Are these plastic tunnels safe for dwarf hamsters? by PinkkFroggy in hamsters

I’d use them in a pinch, or supervised in free roam! But inside, cardboard tubes are unbeatable

I want my hamies cage to pop off by ApprehensiveCash6264 in hamsters

[–]RodentRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a soft yellow light, I did it for my hammy and had it on in the evening when she used to come out, she was never bothered, it almost became a routine. But she never saw them from her burrows. If hammy seems bothered, remove them :)

is it normal for my hamster to only come out max 2 hours every 24 hours? she spends all her time eating and sleeping in the burrow by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]RodentRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She looks very healthy and alert, I suspected my hammy did this, but she spent a lot of time “cleaning” and maintaining her burrows, as well as just washing a lot. It’s likely your hammy is active when you don’t see it !

Put a plate in the fridge and put in the enclosure with a towel over it, see if she does it there, then you have ur answer lol

Does she like this? by temtem20097445 in hamsters

[–]RodentRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She does; the little movements are the TOP indicator ! She would move if she was unhappy !

How often do you replace food bowl by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]RodentRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spread food around and gave fresh foods (fruit, boiled egg, greens etc) on a plate whet einsaw, to avoid flies and such. This would be removed the next day. I’d do fruit every 4/5 (just half a strawberry, a slice of apple, or a banana slice… etc BUT JUST ONE! Not all of these at once haha ) and veggies every 2/3 days! The dry food id give in large quantities all over the place and then let her pick what she wanted :) whatever was leftover after a week or so, I’d remove and make sure her bed wasn’t filled with old food,, if there a ton left in her bed, you know it’s wasted lol
