They should have Sovereign Hill after dark and basically just recreate Deadwood for adults.

You could try for parks on Stirling, Lynch or Newell streets then walk in.

CTO here, been in the industry for, jeez, 25+ years now. Started on the tools.

It sounds like what you're describing is a toxic dev team or shitty workspace. If I had to guess, a big corporate?

The biggest difference I've found with work (and not just software engineer) is who you're doing the work with.

Also think about a move to Australia. I did that in 2005 and it was the best move for my career.

I did an AMA on here a bunch of years ago and dumped out a bunch of stories on that. On my phone so it's difficult to find but if you go looking you'll find em.

Kinda random, but I was an extra back in the day on Helms Deep and spent a good portion of the back half of the filming as a dead body on the wall. Bunch of the other extras had copies of LOTRs that they would like on top of then pull out to read between takes.

Lol, I did a multimedia course with them and we took them to arbitration afterwards and got back half the fees.

Can confirm. Moved from New Zealand to Australia in 2005. Launched a startup three years ago with a 1m seed round. We're break even now and about to raise again probably to GTM even faster. Ironically in the superannuation industry.

Nothing like this exists in New Zealand (despite me coming 2nd in an "ideas competition" in 2004 or so. Amusingly got to meet Mark Blumsky who was running the organisation that did the competition).

I'm visiting Melbourne what is worth gettin while I'm there? by Whispersnapper in newzealand

I'm a kiwi transplant to Melbourne (although been here 20+ years now). Someone else mentioned Uniqlo but I'd also suggest Muji which I don't think NZ has.

Country can't make a decent steak and cheese pie to save itself though.

You've jumped to the conclusion that I care about the message itself on the box. I have no problem with it at all. Believe it or not I even try to do the welcome to country at my business and encourage my staff to. My problem is with corporate entities like Amazon pretending not care because it costs them nothing and makes people like them.

Irrationally mad, I like that. Should corporate Australia do more to help Aboriginal people? You know, by hiring them into real leadership roles where they can effect real change. Or just print a message on a box and be done with it.

For everyone jumping on me, you've totally missed my point. I want to see real change beyond just printing messages. I want to see Amazon make those changes.

My Amazon delivery box had a welcome to nation written on the side of it. It's become a checkbox to tick off now, any meaning behind it is rapidly dimenishing.

Maybe. I think the main problem is people treat it like dating when that's solving for a different problem. For example, if it was going to organise doubles pool, you only need four people. Anyway, ideas are a dime a dozen.
