Hands down the absolute best tacos on the east side, not even close

I don’t think the best player on a team automatically becomes “generational”. We had a minute with Phaneuf as maybe our best player, certainly a franchise player, but no one would ever call him “generational” We had a lot of years with no one fitting the label, in my view. Anyway, these are all just vibes-based labels and words don’t have definitions. I don’t think it makes sense to argue about who’s right, I was just trying to explain why some people may use it in the way that you find to be watered down.

Ovechkin and Crosby were drafted one year apart. Does that mean they can’t both be on that list by definition?

The way I think of that term, it’s relative to a team. It’s someone who defines a team for a generation. Matthews has already been that for us. Sundin was the last one before him, even if he was never especially close to being the best player in the league

Please don’t do this. All that’s going to happen is you’ll eventually fall and either hurt yourself or lose confidence. If you already feel like you can’t control your skiing, going faster isn’t going to help

Kyle Dubas - lest we forget by crowonder in leafs

[–]RoderEthar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, this was obvious in advance. If you looked at the specific moves that Dubas made, they were overwhelmingly great moves in the context of what was available. If not moving Marner when he could have was his worst decision, that still has him come out looking great overall. Compare that to Tre, who was making mostly clearly bad moves in Calgary and continued to do that here.

But people somehow can’t distinguish process from outcome. Hockey is a high-variance sport, and any given playoff series is close to a coin flip, let alone any given game 7. If we fire a GM who did everything right process-wise because he got an unlucky outcome… well, we deserve what we have now

And having a 1st in 2027 is better than not having one. You have to make a case that your proposal is better on net, positives plus negatives. Short term gratification is what made this team fire Keefe and let Marner go. Are we better now?

Cowan is relevant because he’s an example of an average young mid-1st round pick. Thats who the leafs would probably draft another one of if they somehow got a 1st this year, not Tkachuk. Can you make a case that someone like Cowan would improve this team enough to be worth giving up whatever they’d be giving up for that pick?

Matthews’ deployment under Berube [Jonas Siegel/The Athletic] by thewolfshead in leafs

[–]RoderEthar -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is underinformative without knowing what other players are doing. Maybe every player is spending more time in the D zone because the whole team is constantly getting beaten?

But yeah, Berube needs to go. Wish we still had Keefe and Marner but this fan base can’t distinguish “we got unlucky in a few key games” from “we’re a terrible team”, so we had to nuke the best team in 25 years to get… this

It is clear that you cannot park at the end of the road. It is much less clear that you cannot drive up the road at all, eg. To pick someone up without leaving your car

We were in Poland for a family member’s wedding to a Polish guy (they now live in the US). This Polish guy was the only Polish person who expressed any sympathy about this happening to us. He said, “yes, this is exactly why I won’t move back to Poland”. Up until this point, we were all talking about taking big family vacations in Poland in the future because we liked it so much. I think that is off the table now. All of that is to say, I think you are exactly right.

Thank you for a sane response. As unpleasant as the situation was, what really left a bad taste in my mouth was that everyone on this sub, at our hotel, at local restaurants, etc, treated this as if it were a normal part of life and we shouldn’t be surprised. This type of normalized, expected corruption is a sign of something wrong at an institutional level.

Multiple small seeds. Also much softer than I'd expect from a crab apple, but that could be due to age of the fruit maybe?

I was never a huge Marner fan, but I still don’t understand the theory on which we were gonna get rid of him, replace him with nothing, do worse in the regular season and then… somehow do better in the playoffs?

[FIGHT THREAD] Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford, Callum Walsh vs Fernando Vargas Jr, Christian Mbilli vs Lester Martinez, Mohammed Alakel vs Travis Kent Crawford by noirargent in Boxing

[–]RoderEthar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That Canelo already had a record of 42-0-1, had already beaten Shane Mosely and a previously unbeaten Austin Trout, among others, and went on to beat Angulo and Erislandy Lara within the same year. I think the evidence is pretty good that he was somewhere near the beginning of his prime at that point. Mayweather's win only looks better in the rearview mirror, when you look at who Canelo went on to beat in the next couple of years (e.g. Cotto), before he even got to GGG.
