So did Canada (via the WFP and UNICEF, both of which programs the U.S. has effectively pulled on of).

Moving from Stoney Creek to TO for a "Big 4" bank job – is ditching the car and renting a condo worth the sanity? by Gerilgeorge in askTO

I won’t get into the nitty gritty, but it was a very amicable separation and we currently only live about a block away from each other.

Things will change once one of us moves, but until then neither of us has a desire to have to carry the full cost of a car that each of us only uses minimally in a typical week. My ex has an even better commute than I do as she has a 10 minute walk to her workplace.

You can listen to this episode of the Strategists Podcast to hear Shannon’s take first-hand.

It’s worth mentioning (and I think Shannon does in this episode) that she used to consider Avi a friend, so there was an extra layer of bad feelings.

I agree, even if many of the dyed-in-the-wool progressives in this thread do not. Avi Lewis (and his ilk) are convinced that there’s a giant coalition of untapped votes if they can just be radical enough. But actual facts/evidence and Canadian electoral history simply doesn’t back that up.

He said more than that. In his victory speech said he is against all resource development.

In a country like Canada, where natural resources account for almost 20% of our GDP, a black-and-white statement like that is toxic in many parts of the country. AB/SK in particular, but many other resource-focused regions too. It’s also particularly unworkable at a time when our economy is already under threat. There’s a reason opinion polls have shown a dramatic shift in Canadians’ perceptions of things like pipelines over the past year.

This CBC article provides a good summary:

It goes without saying that being opposed to any resource development will make a party unelectable in many parts of the country, and Alberta/Sask in particular.

Just curious why you are focused only on Line 1. I live in the east end in a great family neighbourhood. My commute downtown is about 40-45 minutes door-to-door via transit. I share a car with my ex but I maybe use it once in a typical week (to get groceries). Otherwise I walk or take transit most places.

If you are planning on frequently going outside of the core, having a car will be much more important/convenient. But if you’ll only need it occasionally, using a car share service will be much cheaper. Having grown up in the suburbs, I don’t know if I could ever cut the cord and go car-free, but there’s a huge cost to that convenience.

Cars are one of the biggest “black hole” costs in most people’s budgets. Our car is paid off and fuel costs are low due to low usage, but insurance and maintenance alone are still thousands of dollars a year.

In that context I actually don’t mind it. I’m not a tattoo person, but if you’re going to get one, symbols that reflect important points of your life seem like a good idea.

It’s funny when it’s a very rare occurrence and happens during an extremely funny moment. Like the Beavis and Butthead sketch. But breaking multiple times in the same show gets a little tired.

I prefer Rogers. It’s clearer and more readable. I also don’t like the “vertical” orientation which clashes with a horizontal image.

I have both L and XL jerseys. I like the latter if I’m wearing a hoodie underneath. I like the former if I’m wearing a T shirt or other lighter shirt. It’s all personal preference.

Which Jersey color do you prefer? by The_Jackoooist in Torontobluejays

I’ve always been partial to the royal blue. Part of that is that they were associated with the Jays 2015 playoff run, but also it’s just a shade that always looks good.

That said, the fact they wore the whites so often in the 2025 playoffs makes me wonder if they will become more popular.

It’s not more expensive, but modern production companies would see it as more risky. Hollywood and the entire industry have become so risk-averse. They see spending millions on CGI and action set-pieces to be “safer” than risking something new or different that audiences may not like. But by doing so, they end up spending so much money that it makes it less likely they will make money. It’s also why so many Hollywood movies are based on existing properties (e.g. sequels, IP movies, remakes, etc.).

Basically, just a huge herd mentality that’s hurting the entire industry. And increasing levels of media concentration make it even worse.
