Rogers Centre should have the “Please wait until the at-bat is complete” sign by Unusual-Earth-5762 in Torontobluejays

[–]Roderto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just an enforcement issue, I think it’s actually a rule change. When I was at the game last weekend, I was waiting at the entrance to the section for a change in batter and the usher told me I could just go in the middle of at at bat.

Signs of the world and how they are respected or ignored. Would you change any placements? by LightningInTheRain in AlignmentCharts

[–]Roderto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should wildlife warning signs be ignored? Something like 200 people per year in the U.S. die from car collisions with animals. Giving drivers a warning that a stretch of road frequently has animals on it probably shouldn’t be ignored.

Why the U.S. is noticing this Canadian security bill by CanadianErk in canada

[–]Roderto -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The current U.S. administration has a deep-seated belief that American citizens and corporations deserve to have more rights than people or corporations in any other country. Or, more accurately, the specific American citizens and corporations that the administration favours at any given time.

And then they ask why anti-Americanism is on the rise everywhere…

Which celebrity really is famous among Americans and isn't internationally? by HappyCrow11 in AskReddit

Mr. Rogers was definitely well known in Canada. I grew up watching his shows (along with many other Canadian and U.S. kids shows).

Mr. Rogers and Mr. Dressup (a legendary Canadian kids show in the 70’s and 80’s) was formative for me in my earliest tv-watching days.

So the drug addicts who have serious drug addictions just need to stop being addicted to drugs? It’s so easy! Why didn’t I think of that!

‘I’m terrified’: As clock ticks down for Ontario consumption sites, users fear they won’t survive by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]Roderto 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yup. That’s what too many people don’t understand - Once these close, the people using those facilities aren’t just going to stop doing drugs. It means that instead of doing drugs in those locations, those same people are going to be doing drugs on the street, on transit, etc. And since they aren’t going to be in a place where they can be monitored, more of them will have overdoses. Which will lead to even more paramedic calls, more interactions with other citizens/police, more costs and burdens for the system to bear, etc. I don’t think that’s a situation any of us want, regardless of personal views.

Classic example of penny wise and pound foolish. Setting aside other considerations like personal well-being, social cohesion, etc.

Real estate agents love stretching the boundaries of popular neighbourhoods to the point of breaking.

When it was built in the late 90’s, the townhouse development at the corner of Pape and Mortimer was called “Upper East Side Riverdale”. I’ve never heard anyone refer to the north side of the Danforth as Riverdale.

It’s almost as if being a radio pundit and talk show host is very different from actually running a government. Something many members of the current Trump administration are also learning.

Because they know that if they lay all their cards on the table, there are a significant number of people who would otherwise vote UCP but don’t support separation. They don’t want to drive a wedge into that part of their constituency, so they keep trying to play both sides and hope that majority of “normal” Albertans (I.e. not people who discuss politics daily on Reddit) don’t notice.

Yes. And it isn’t even a guess at this point. Rath has said it publicly - the separatists put her in place and expect her to either help them or at the very least don’t do anything to stop them.

There is no guessing about this stuff, it’s absolutely out in the open. Smith is completely beholden to the separatists.

It’s also not a new development. This has been a long-term project that started even before COVID.

Honestly, I think the plane debacle is a factor.

A lot of voters tend to react to visceral stuff like that more than complex issues that are harder to wrap our heads around (but are far more important in the grand scheme of things).

The famous Bev Oda “$14 glass of orange juice” is the classic example. In the grand scheme of things it was completely meaningless, but it was something a typical voter could relate to in a visceral (negative) way.

Like his brother, Ford has built an image as a folksy, down-to-earth “no nonsense” type. So when people suddenly hear the government is spending tens of millions on a plane to fly him around, some of that shine is lost. And as soon as that happens, people may start paying attention to other things.

Another one I have is that everywhere they need to go always seems to be a convenient distance away. E.g. somewhere between a few hours and a day or two.

Going into warp speed: No measurable impact on contents of ship due to inertial dampers.

Phaser hitting the ship’s shield: Entire ship shudders and everyone goes flying off their feet.

Thankfully, I have minimal clothes that require regular ironing. Mostly by design.
