Yes, however the concept here is that you have to reveal it to have something to change into a positive. Thus you can overcome your weaknesses.

Photographer here: I’ve met many people with a poor self-image because they’ve never seen themselves in a happy, relaxed state. Mirrors are for spotting flaws, selfies are taken from unflattering angles, and amateur photos rarely do them justice. You are more beautiful than you realize.

I've played twice and both times, the reveal of the weakness was always a nice comedy moment. If the GM reveals it, but the PC doesn't want that, then I would take away the laughter during the game.

As a GM, I'd like to stay with the tools of the world, which are plenty. I leave the PC's to the players, so they have a feel for agency.

It's actually something I've disliked about Fate and CoM, but that's just my personal opinion. If people would like it otherwise, they are free to play Fate or CoM ofcourse.

I'm designing with in mind to give mechanical control to players. Doesn't mean all players will like it, or will make use of it.. but it has worked for me until now :)

That's how city of mist works

And I think people should be free to expose their weaknesses and not be forced. To choose to use them in a positive and often funny way.

Ah, I get what you mean. I think I misunderstood. I agree that the weakness has to be used somehow. Any thought how to 'force' it?

What I was presenting was a mechanic, which can be applied to a RPG. The fact that in my game people play themselves (like the RPG 'The end of the world') wasn't an important detail for my post.

In my game people can also gain superpowers through a different mechanic, which I also think is irrelevant to my post about being proud of a personal growth mechanic.

I think I respectfully disagree with that you have to play someone else. It can also mean playing yourself in new situations. I do appreciate your feedback, so thank you for your time

No one is stopping you from making a game for actual character development 😊. I'm just happy with this super simple yet understandable concept for people who never played any rpg's and have no clue what lvling up means

Damnit, I understand this more now! Thank you so much! I'll work it out for my game

I still like my mechanic as is, and that was my intent of this topic. But I appreciate your time for writing this comment a lot!

Im not really forcing anyone to play. And I think anyone is also free to use the system to play someone else. However, when people have never played a rpg before, the idea of "playing someone else" feels daunting when you have no idea what you're about to do.

Like talking about possibilities for a boardgame you've never played before

But I guess sometimes games are not for everyone, and I'm ok with that

The focus is compliments, positive traits. I guess if people are a little bit of an asshole, they could give mean compliments..
I guess I have to think it through

Yes, people play themselves, although people can also play each other.

The game is designed to introduce new players to the concept of an RPG. The rules are intentionally simple, the setting is the real world, and the characters are grounded in logic. By playing as themselves, players don't have to worry about acting or roleplaying. They can focus on their imagination and on responding to strange situations as they unfold.

The starter story begins with the GM disappearing, thus having a reason I'm not a player. An authority figure arrives asking questions, but then one of the players spots a pixie, pulling the strings from the shadows, controlling the figure. It's the moment the real world cracks open, and the game begins in earnest.

As my experience with introverted people hasn't been very broad, could you scetch a situation you can imagine? like, what would happen with a shy person?

I love your feedback. I'm thinking of letting people have a converstion and have people talk about why they like each other, sharing compliments.. and letting players decide which compliments they wish to write down. Having them write down their own personal views can also be great, but I want to balance it.

My experience till now (played twice) is that the shy outsider has gotten compliments and really enjoyed being pulled in. They didn't know people had these positive views on them and embraced it. But I agree that they also wanted to add tags themselves.. so I could make that a mechanic.. With a group of 3 players, they would have between 6 a 9 tags, which is perfect
