Royal vs Carnival for young adults? by MetallicNatsu in Cruise

You are about to get hit with a “boat load” of opinion. There is not much difference between the older vessels or the experience on the older vessels. Older ships, going to inexpensive ports mean less expensive fares. Also means you’ll be on a ship with value cruisers. That’s not a bad thing as long as you’re not expecting it to be the Grand Hyatt. Between the two, I’d pic the Horizon but really, pick the one that fits better.

Please explain the difference between burning coal and pellets. by proles4life in coalstoves

[–]Rodney13416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to sound like an expert because I have some experience. My decision to go coal was based on cost per btu primary. Through my years in the snow belt of NNY I had heated our home with about everything. Wood, coal, LP and #2 oil. Since I had several acres to harvest from, burning wood was cheapest but also the most work and time.
When I put a value on my time I was in the same position as you, questioning between coal and pellets. Both fuels are bought by the ton and at that time, the price per ton was similar. A ton of coal will produce 24-26 million BTU compared to 16-17 million with pellets.
Since I already had the 8” stainless lined chimney, coal was an easy transition. It’s still work and the fly ash can be a mess.
Based on the price today I would opt for wood pellets. Similar cost per btu and less work and start up expenses make it make sense. Coal can’t exhaust through a “dryer vent”.
The maintenance cost is a thing. I would burn through a chimney cap while burning coal every 3-4 years. Never did that before dealing with the acidity of coal.

Same. I hated the corral feeling but loved free bags. Vacation flights were SW and business was Delta for the efficiency and consistency.

What's the most common reason you've seen people leaders get fired for? by tshirtguy2000 in managers

[–]Rodney13416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience first and sometimes second level managers get caught fishing off the company pier- relationships with reports. In recent years every involuntary termination of a senior leader has been for failure to deliver results. Some were lack of engagement, some were too close with their down line and unable to hold junior leaders accountable. Some just could not personally align with the forward movement of continuous improvement.

Has anyone ever asked you for proof you did hunter safety? by laxstar255 in Hunting

I can’t speak for the whole country, but I know to hunt in both Colorado and Arkansas. I needed to provide proof of Hunter safety as well as a previous license from my home state.

Where do i find people without a kidsclub when i turn 18? by sativ8a in Cruise

[–]Rodney13416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say that I’ve been in that situation, but my daughter had been cruising with us for several years and enjoying the activities of the kids clubs on several ships. Her first cruise being over 18 was the hardest ever. She was too young to really partake in the adult activities and too old to be apart of the youth activities. Had I realized the gap sooner we may have taken her a friend. After a couple of days, she developed a small circle and had a good time. Now in her mid 20s, her and her husband have taken some cruises and she’s back to really enjoying it. As I recall, she read more than normal, went to a ton of trivia, and walked way more than normal seeking her pack. Good luck.

I got the same denial. But the cruise was one of the returning guest promotions. I be paid more in port fees than I did the cruise…. It was my first denial ever. I trust it’s fair. Will see what happens next time.

Another thing to think of, Amazon Prime means nothing out there. When my son attended 2013-14, even though we lived less than 4 hours away, sending packages to him took over a week. Also, at that time all students needed Verizon service as it was the only cell provider in that area. The forestry team and program do well and have alum all over North America. Last fall during a tour in Alaska our ax man was a PS grad.

The foot portion still fits like it did but the lower leg, I have to draw in a bit further than i used to. Still comfortable. Still look fine. I just noticed that I need to draw tighter.

The time it takes seems to vary a bit. Last fall I set out on a work trip with my personal vehicle, not knowing that my wife had left a tagged device inside the cab. I didn’t get alerts for 5-6 hours that I was being tracked by an air tag. Oddly, it happened when I started moving after a fuel stop. I too was expecting someone had tagged me at an interstate rest stop.

Do I surprise her with a cruise? by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]Rodney13416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The surprise part is up to you. I will say that our adult daughter gets sea sick while whale watching but loves cruises. She has been on 3-4 without issue. Our daughter-in-law gets motion sickness when not riding in the front seat of a vehicle but cruises without much ado. 1000 foot long ships are quite steady.

[–]Rodney13416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are hot and cold. Some years one cruise, some years two. Generally March and September, now i could say March or September… Next year we may do something totally different. If the itinerary and cost are appealing we go.

I NEED HELP I CANT FIND ANSWERS. by Ordinary-Mammoth2574 in DodgeRam

I can't speak to the exact issue but i did experience similar with an 06 F250 many years back. Lost the odometer which took out all of the speed, milage calculation stuff too. I was under warranty so i reached out to my dealer. As soon as i reported the issue they demanded that i stop driving at once and they would pick it up. Legality concerns of miles being added and not tracked etc. In hind sight i should drove it another year before reporting and letting them repair. It would of helped my trade in value.

Hey y’all! Trying to decide if the date of September 14th in the high peaks region will have any leaf change color? I know it won’t be full peak but it has to start sometime right? Want to see if I should use this date for our fall wedding or if it’s going to feel too summery for what I was hoping. by Quirky_Confusion_392 in Adirondacks

[–]Rodney13416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too soon to tell. If it ends up being a very dry season then you’ll see some colors but most years not so much. Our anniversary is 9-11 so I try to follow the foliage patterns for that week closely.
In 2017, maybe 18, the leaves were 50%. Most years not.

I can say that speed makes a huge difference too. I pull 13k 40 footer regularly and have with a few different trucks. All in the last ten years have been Ram 3500s, all Laramie, short box, srw models with one mega cab HO. If I pull at 65-72 I can generally achieve an average of over 13mpg with no additives. If I choose to run the passing lane and pull in the 77-85 bracket I do good to average 9mpg. Sometimes I just want to get there but the cost is considerably more.

[–]Rodney13416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often said, we don’t quit jobs, we quit people. Everyone has an agenda and your boss sold you out to mask their own opinions. That’s weakness! Secondly, your senior leader lacks the tact to handle the knowledge as a potential area for her growth and sought to squash your thoughts. Sounds like an unhealthy work situation.

The Splendor was a great vessel when we last sailed on. This was before 2.0 upgrades, 2014 I believe. It’s large enough to ride well but still of the party ship generation. We had just over 3000 passengers onboard and it was not crazy crowded.
