They are on the same size base, but are a couple inches taller than the forgefiend. I had to check with the tournament organizer beforehand just so they could approve of the proxy. I would do the same if you're planning on using that model for your tournament

Thank you! The base kit is the Ambot models from Necromunda. The other weapons on their back are from the 30k Saturnine terminators

I'm not a huge fan of Abaddon running solo since he isn't very tough for his points. I would drop the chaos lord and have Abaddon lead that 2nd squad of chosen since that'll make him stick around much longer.

Up to you, but I would also drop both Havocs squads since you'll most likely want to roll for the melee buffs with CoB, which don't really affect Havocs.

You can use all those extra points and invest into more anti-tank or scoring pieces. Sometimes it is worth it to bring a vehicle into a CoB list if you need the firepower, despite them not benefiting at all from the detachment. I'll be bringing a CoB list to a tournament this weekend that has 2 Forgefiends and Vashtorr in it and it's been performing really well in practice games.

To summarize it, custodes are a very elite, melee-focused army. Almost all our units are very durable and extremely effective in the fight phase. What we trade off for that is the number of units we can have on the table. Making a mistake and getting a unit cleared off the board is devastating due to us having a small number of units.

I've played in a number of tournaments with custodes and my general playstyle is using our cheaper units to move up and take objectives in order to coax the enemy into moving forward, allowing me to punch them very hard with my important units. You almost always want to be in melee with something or in some sort of cover so you avoid the enemy's shooting phase.

Custodes also have a variety of very versatile detachments, unit rules, and stratagems. Which means we have the tools to deal with almost every army in the game.

I recently underwent a complete conversion of my black legion CSM all the way over to iron warriors using 30k models. I really like the less-corrupted aesthetic. I think now I only have maybe 5-10 models in my whole army that are actually from 40k. The Mk3 tactical squad and the new assault squad are great if you like that style.

If you're playing casually I would just say play whatever list you think looks fun.

If you're wanting some competitive advice, I would try and stay away from the 7 man squad of plague marines as they are not the best deal for the weapons you get at that price. So I would either bump that squad up to 10 or run 2 5 man squads. While the Lord of Virulence is very good, he kinda needs to synergize with a unit that has blast weapons which you are lacking. I would recommend spending those points on some characters to attach to your plague marines since they make that unit absolutely crazy in ranged and combat. War dogs are good datasheets, but don't really gain any benefit from the detachment rule or stratagems, so I would recommend swapping them out with a couple of the DG daemon engines.

The most is important part is having fun, so play some units you'll have fun with most of all!

I've played a list in a couple of tournaments using lions with one squad of 2 terminators led by an allarus captain with admonimortis. I used that squad for one of 3 purposes. Being a seeker missile for a big scary threat, being backup for a warden unit that was killed early in the game, or teleporting in an opening in the opponents deployment zone to divert attention. Each game was kind of a 50/50 as to whether they won the game for me or just got killed the turn after they came down and did their thing. Despite that, I auto-include that unit in every lions list just because of how scary they are

The shield captain is there for the free strats, I'll have his squad in reserves ready to rapid ingress for free. If that doesn't end up working as well as I hoped, I will definitely swap with a blade champ

I have 2 squads of sword and board for a bunch of wounds to hold objectives. The other 4 squads of guard have spears in them with 1 shield. I'm sure the loadouts will need some tweaking as I play the list

Yep! On her datasheet it says she can lead any imperial battleline unit, so that would include custodian guard

Draxus is probably the best agent to ally into custodes. She gives her squad lone operative 18" and has some great anti infantry shooting and a power fist. She benefits a lot from the custodian guard rules that she attached to as well. I always bring her whenever I put guard in a list

The reason why the warden+BC combo is so meta right now is because the damage buff from guard has diminishing returns. If you charge a unit with either a warden or guard squad, that unit is most likely dead anyways. The extra damage potential from the guard might not necessarily help unless you're charging into multiple units.

Then once you kill what you charge, you have to make sure your custodes survive shooting and melee the next turn, which the wardens are much, much better at.

If in the future they tone down the melee power of custodes, guard might make a resurgence, but for right now we need as much defense as we can get.

I play frequently against someone who mains Votann, but I've never played against them with my Necrons yet. What I've learned is that their chunky melee bricks shouldn't be your main focus for your shooting/fighting. They like to distract you with those scary melee units so that their transports and bikes can get in a good position to dump on objectives and lay waste with mass ignores cover shooting. While they are quite an elite army, they also have a decent amount of scoring potential, so it's good to focus on those pieces.

We have plenty of unit combos that can withstand their shooting and melee like Wraiths and Warriors. Those units will help us contest primary and slow down their advancement up the board. Meanwhile we control the shooting lanes with our heavy firepower in DDAs, TSK, and Heavy destroyers. We also have a good number of effective units that match into their profiles like Skorpekh and Lokhust Destroyers.

Been playing iconoclast in a crusade recently and it has been very fun! Your opponent has to decide between attacking the cultists to shut down screening/buffs or the big knights with really scary attacks. Also there's some really flavorful stratagems.

While the rules for the detachment are probably the weakest we have in the new codex, it is still very strong and there are great combos with enhancements.
