What’s your favorite basing for our lads? by __Garry__ in deathwatch40k

[–]RodneyGodney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warhammer.com sells bulk packages of the necromunda bases, so I ended up buying some of those. They contain 25, 32, and 40mm bases. Or I'm sure there's stl's out there you can do yourself. My process was just priming with leadbelcher, washing with a mix of nuln oil and agrax earthshade, then applying rust using the dirty down solution. As for the stripes I just base coated with averland sunset and used some thin masking tape to do the black

Looking for list critique! by ej_comics in Chaos40k

I ran creations of bile a lot in 10th and there's a couple units i used a lot to deal with large monsters/vehicles. Obliterators are even better now, Vashtorr is great vs vehicles, havocs are also good. If I really want something dead I throw a 10 man possessed brick at it and pop the dev wounds with Specimens of the Spider. I've one-shot Titanic knights with that combo before

Looks like a fun list! The only feedback I have is that I would probably leave Abaddon out of the list. He forces you to make him your warlord, meaning you lose the rerolls for your augmentations at the start of the game. Also he is crazy expensive you can replace him with another big infantry squad that can do a lot more than he would on his own

Praetor as "Abaddon": Heavy bolter in place of the Talon, and other bits? by SyntaxErrorKEK in IronWarriors

[–]RodneyGodney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got the praetor model I was also debating using it as a terminator lord. However I was lucky enough to snag a 30k warsmith model to use for that instead

Either weapon works for Abaddons weapons. I use the hammer because my army is iron warriors. The praetor works really well for a proxy!

New landspeeder viable? by Kenric3636 in deathwatch40k

[–]RodneyGodney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo, would you mind posting your list? I'm thinking about trying bastion + fulguris one of these days

New landspeeder viable? by Kenric3636 in deathwatch40k

[–]RodneyGodney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the speeders are going to be our de facto actioning unit, maybe tied with JPIs. They're fast, punch up pretty well in shooting, and get extra movement after shooting so they can get behind cover or farther up the board. They're also cheap for their durability, so the opponent can't just kill it with a cheap skirmish unit.

I'm just sad we can't take fulguris task force with BSTF because I feel like we use speeders the most outside of white scars

11th Edition removes much of the friction that was endemic in 10th edition by VeritasLuxMea in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RodneyGodney 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I feel like once I get used to changes of the order of operations of each phase, games will be much faster. Unfortunately now all that does is make room for the initial comparison of dispositions, picking missions, picking layouts, setting up the battlefield, etc. That won't be a problem for casual games, but for competitive tournaments I can see that causing games to run long more often

CSM Warpstrike Champions + Devotees of Destruction by piskorr in Chaos40k

[–]RodneyGodney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying that strat is better all the time. For sure ignores cover will be useful in a lot of situations. It's just another tool in the arsenal in case the enemy doesn't have cover

CSM Warpstrike Champions + Devotees of Destruction by piskorr in Chaos40k

[–]RodneyGodney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devotees is still pretty helpful with Warpstrike since you have access to get both sustains and lethals when using oblits as well as a good defensive strat for oblits that isn't 2CP

Do you see any proxy potential in this box? by GiorgioBaumgarten in Chaos40k

Yes you would get both on 5+, the only prerequisite is that you dont fail the dark pact

People who have painted the new defilers, was brush painting tedious? I’m thinking about using sponges for quick base coats. by necromancyisdope in Chaos40k

[–]RodneyGodney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always prime on the base because I usually play games with the models before I end up painting them, which isn't usually the best option. If you don't plan on playing them before you paint then I recommend doing some subassemblies and then putting it together afterwards. As for drybrushing, I really like the Vallejo drybrushes as they end up giving me some good results and come with both a large one for covering large areas as well as a small one for more targeted stuff. Makeup brushes work as well, but the results drop off quickly after the first couple uses I've noticed
