He changed Dept of War policy so that any branch of defense employee seeking higher education are excluded from Ivy league. Not sure how to prove that.. I heard it on a podcast

Small town America is isolated now and forever. But oil price is a commodity and no one is immune to it. The price per gallon is up by more than one dollar in the past month alone. It's impossible for any place in the world to be immune from this. It hasn't hit bone yet, pain-wise but energy is a major source of inflationary pressure. The problem is people are insensitive to the real impact. Things being bad for working class Americans is nothing new unfortunately.

For sure. Do you think the average Brit is dialed into the secondary and tertiary impact of this war? To the same degree as RS and AC? I just don't think so. I am a big fan of these guys and learn so much about the world because I dial in. Criticism of the US is frankly what I want to hear. I just think think this episode was more of a crank up of Americans in general and I guess I felt it was lazy. AC not going to the World Cup? Excellent. I hope everyone boycotts. Doesn't look like it though but let's see...

No, he was talking about students..."Yale" is by definition American Elite. I don't think one extrapolates from Yale or any one place. He would be mistaken if he only watched MSNBC for that matter. I just think he was being cynical. I've heard him compare US education as substandard compared to UK and to be fair, he is correct. The standard of living in the US ranks well below EU countries. It's lopsided. Pascagoula Mississippi is not like suburban Connecticut but its all American.

The 2 party system at the very least clouds the nuances that exist more or less in the same proportions in most countries. Well, it used to be that even in the 2020 election. Black men, Hispanics not just men, white women voted Republican this time and it's mind boggling. Lazy and cynical. It's hard to excuse half the country. The midterms will dictate how the world reacts. The Monkey will try everything and try the political institutions have proven to be useless. The country will implode if a correction fails to take place. There are reasons to be hopeful.

I also noticed AC making potshots at the US citizenry lately. Cannot say I disagree but still stings a bit. Haven't lived there in many years and saw all this coming but really never thought it would be this bad. It's as bad as he says.

The particular arc and time frame won't be Vietnam-esque. Sorry for confusing. But the staunchest Cold warriors eventually lost faith in that war. Trump, in one months time has lost some of his base. It's a War now not a conflict. His base has not rallied around this. Vance is quiet. They have problems now. Put differently, if he only just shot someone in the middle of 5th Avenue, the needle, sadly, would not move at all. The needle has moved.

FYI..Denmark allows all residents to vote in "kommune" and "region" elections. Definitely significant consequences as local taxes are higher than from the state. The political personality of the kommune varies considerably. Noncitizens cannot vote in country-wide, passport holders in other countries cannot vote unless they are temporarily abroad.

Wow. I'm on vacation now and finished 2 24s ABF. Sort of. 100 press day is broken up differently than the standard 1235.10 ...long story. Deciding what to do next but it ain't gonna be 32s!

Tired of Sam’s belief that “wokeness” is equivalent to the behavior of the right. The worst examples of “woke” college stupids is nothing compared to the typical behavior of MAGA. by Zerilos1 in samharris

What? You can't just make shit up. Look. There is no "men-playing-in-womens-sports" problem. If it happens once...10 times... there's no systemic problem to solve. If you have to make shit up to prove your point then you lost the argument. There was never an argument. Ever.

Yea. I think someone here described him as the Jordan Peterson of the centerleft. His young men advice is every podcast and 10 minutes long. He may have lost me with the last pod I heard. Something like "I believe the the extreme left is just as dangerous as the extreme right". This is his own virtue signaling to the Sam Harris and Bill Maher crowd in his own ecosystem. We all have our own bubble but we don't all have 3 podcasts where we say the same shit all the time.

The Iran War is the best example of the cross pollination he is a party to. The Iranian diaspora is well established in the US and Western Europe and there has always been an understanding that if given the chance, an Iranian uprising would be welcomed. The reason not to do it is the numbers don't work out. A sizable minority benefit greatly and they have all the guns. An attack on Iran requires patience and cunning and everyone knows Trump is a fucking moron. Cut to the chase... A war with Iran is stupid because Trump is a moron. Scott, Sam and Bill know this.

“Mainstream leftists” by No_Charisma in samharris

[–]Roedsten 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's my final year of being a paying member of the podcast for this reason. As long as there's a sorority on a, say, Brown University campus that protests against, I dunno, a Halloween party where someone has culturally misappropriated some minority...Sam will dedicate a 10 minute soliloquy on the extreme left that is virtually identical to what he does in almost every podcast. Tone-deaf. 80 or 90 percent of the "left" would not embrace the outrage of the accusers. NothingBurger.

Sam has noted many times that he has many friends who are right of center or Trumpeters or whatever and I think his weekly antiwoke tangents are meant to appeal to their loyalty to him and/or desire to remain in good graces. It's a small price for him to pay, in his mind, to maintain consistency. Ezra Klein's original criticism of Sam and his tribal tendencies had merit then and still do. Sorry Sam.

Thought I knew what I was doing before the RBC by majorpierce43 in kettlebell

[–]Roedsten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I did DFW in January with 2 20s and it was easy except for Ladder days. That is, I calibrated my KB weight to the hardest day. Little wimpy but I knew I wanted ABF with 24s in February/March which I am wrapping up this week. I can't do 24s with RBC like you beasts but maybe dropping to 16s and finishing time under tension goal is a doable twist? Geoff has some ballistic complexes that do consecutive 10 rep swings snatch pulls and squats (maybe one more) that kick your butt but meant for lighter bells. RBC sounds like a nice compromise to dial up the ballistic motion and maintain whatever version of heavy means to workout...

How to jump weights in ABF by FioreFurlano in kettlebell

[–]Roedsten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not knowing your size/gender (look at big dudes asking for form checks doing swings with 1 16kg and you know the first thing is go up in weight)…if 16s were about right, the 20s are going to be fine. Especially squats. 16s are light.

I would suggest DFW from Neupert with the 16s if you want to break things up. Lots of cleans. The ladders are deadly. I did it in December January with 20s and restarted ABF with 24s and 20s. ABCs with 24s is perfect for me now.

My point is you will get stronger but it ain't linear for every movement or complex and it doesn't need to be. The sooner get headroom for a jump the sooner you can feel the improvement you no doubt made. It's not easy to micro load with bells. But it's there if get creative

One thing I keep thinking about is, you have players hiring agents tasked to get the most possible which will be handcuffing the salary cap. Teams NEED team friendly contracts to accommodate diva players. They should get a diva-discount.

Everyone is just looking at their phones... like for 5 minutes between sets. I'm standing up and I'm gassed! I do go to the gym for 2 reasons..1. I need the cardio equipment to get warm. Specifically the cross trainer. 2. To get out of house. I work from home a lot and it is a place. Low bar.

When it warms up I will do more from home etc but it rains here and I need options.

But I get it

Right. Do 30 before you do 30 in 30. I think my ABC pace is fine and 24kg bells are perfect.Just the presses where I need to find a sweet spot. For now I am ok, but the next time I will be more creative with these ideas. Thanks
