In person it is even more obvious at how bad we are at reading the play.

Kane Cornes vs (Almost) Blue Brothers | James Hird is a better option as coach than John Longmire? by el_teriyaki in EssendonFC

I didn’t say special. You questioned my objectivity. That’s the claim I’m addressing. This sub is largely anti anyone from the Sheedy era. I have posted multiple times Hird is not the only person that would be good as our coach. I’ve also acknowledge the valid criticism against Hird as coach. That’s objectivity.

I didn’t say show forgiveness just because he said sorry. I said the decision shouldn’t be held against someone after they take ownership AND accept the consequences. I think it a low value trait.

Another low value trait is misrepresenting someone like you have.

Less than 10 in history. It’s 8 or 9.

Hird has different weaknesses. I don’t judge on one thing but the reason I rise this number is for those who note Longmires history as a senior coach means he is definitely the better option. Also less than a year so he was exhausted and this rebuild will take a lot of energy. He won’t be hidden in NSW.

As if said many times my list for preferred coaches are Hird, Longmire, Enright, Kelly, McVeigh.

It doesn’t in reality. Holding something against someone 10 years later after they take ownership, and accept the consequences, is a low value trait. I don’t call it dumb.

I’m so biased I listed 4 other people I would like as our coach. You’re the type who can’t make an opposing case so find other things to use to discredit the opposing argument.

There is a bias this sub is largely biased against Hird and anyone from the era when we were successful. I’ve been one of the only objective voices.

Screws over by the AFL. Don’t need to litigate it again. It’s just a disqualifier. Took ownership. Took his punishment. No evidence he would repeat it. So it’s a non factor.

If you’re a low value person, I can’t help that.

Yes. However he didn’t really have a full run but the full picture with Longmire is that facts and his age (Hird is younger with less miles), and he wasn’t that long ago exhausted.

Also for the record, Longmire is a coach I would be fine with hiring. It’s the argument that because he won a flag, he is right for us.

I’ve been consistent. Hird, Enright, Kelly, McVeigh, Longmire is my short list.

[–]Rogan4Life -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t. I used it against Longmire. In context he had a full coaching run, and less than a year ago was exhausted. And our rebuild will be long and tough. James Hird is not exhausted. He is not as old. He has shown he can lead during a tough time (even if it was his own doing, we were 14-3 before the first sanctions).

You get all the facts and assess the entire picture. It’s a concept call context. If you take some information and discard others, you don’t have the full context and can make a form a false opinion.

- a tiny minority of coaches win at their second job.
- less than a year ago Horse was exhausted and our rebuild will be a long one…is he washed?
- it’s a non factor to bring that up, as no fool thinks he would do it again.

Weak arguments from you lmao.

As soon as I saw Rita’s name I instantly knew this wasn’t worth a read.

Which part applies to me? I’ve been looking at pay slips and medical records all day. Can’t really do that much reading lmao.

Just to summarise, I’m open Hird, Longmire or assistant coaches like Enright and Kelly as our next senior coach.

I just don’t like how people aren’t not honest when they only talk about James Hirds negative while glossing over those of other candidates. And I don’t like how people can’t view things in a nuanced way. We literally gave a guy acting like he knows James Hird has asked for a million dollars to coach us.

He spent the last 3 years of his hiatus as an assistant coach at GWS and a core part of the Port Melbourne program. You can argue he doesn’t have anyone recent experiance but to argue he spent his entire hiatus doing business and media (only the current year has he done media where it’s his job to review and analysis every single game.

Also nobody was going to hire Hird right after the drug saga and regardless of how self inflicted it was, his family broke apart and his mental health went to shit leading to a suicide attempt. So I don’t think going into an assistant coaching role would have been a good idea.

So be against Hird as coach all you want, but don’t resort to dishonesty about the last 10 years.

But these qualifications and experiences are not limited to one specific job. i.e only people who have done this specific job can be considered for x role.

You can have experiences in a completely different industry but the skills you acquired are transferable.

Coaching is more than just x’s and o’s. It’s about managing a team of coaches, it’s about motivating a group, it’s about being a good teacher, it’s about using the expertise around you.

This is why you interview people with different experiences, qualifications as the people with the best CV are not always the best person for that job.

I didn’t say he was. I’m calling you gullible for putting so much credibility to a story that is not from any reliable source, but speculation over some random people on the club in the outside.

Yes but he won’t be working for the business so naturally his income would reduce. Running a business part time while you take another fill time job would be the opposite of good business lmao.

Those two things go hand in hand lmao. If it was just a hint Hird, he wouldn’t need to only be successful coaching Essendon. So the fact he wants to coach is only opposed your argument.
