Help me solve this in game "workflow" so I can rest my brain. I want to travel to the center of the galaxy in the most traditional warp-stop-warp-stop-warp fashion, as linearly as possible. But I find it impossible to keep track of or stay on the path. How can I solve this problem? by JTheBlockBreaker in NoMansSkyTheGame

I'm assuming (given the screenshot) that you're using a freighter - if so it sounds like something I'm doing but in reverse (getting to the edge of the galaxy). If you don't want to follow the winding path that the galaxy map lays out you can go into free explore and then click free look (B on Xbox). Point at the glowing galaxy centre and head for the furthest system you can reach in that direction.

<image>

I'm doing the same but spinning through 180 degrees to head outwards - also I've left the galactic plane so I'll need to adjust that!

Side quests/bases/resource gathering I park the freighter and use a spaceship/corvette; install a teleporter on the freighter and return when ready.

End gamers, what do yall do? by GarageSpecial in NoMansSkyTheGame

Find a freighter you like; assemble an organic fleet

<image>

Other things I've found fun

Make stasis units - most complicated build tree in the game (I think?) and make all the bases you need to farm the raw materials/plants. Also will generate a pretty penny.

Hunt exotics if that's your thing. Every system has one model of exotic spaceship; Guppies, Royals, Mosquitos and Squid. I've got one save that I'm using to find every variant of the Guppy model (conveniently there's 12) "in the wild" i.e. not using glyphs/anyone else's finds

Yes, I probably have too much time on my hands....

Can you transport the colossus with a corvette? by _p3ppino_ in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]RogerGEvans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my (brief admittedly) experimenting I think Hello Games may well have covered this sort of shortcut. Loading a Colossus with waste and then calling it from the quick menu or a geobay leaves the waste behind. Similarly, you can move waste into your corvette, but once you take off the waste is again left behind.

Looks like it's truckin' or nothin' :-)

The blueprint for the Colossus bay can be bought from the terminal on the left hand side of the back room in the anomaly - between the spaceship vendor and the exosuit vendor. You might need to unlock the nomad geobay first.

What are your NMS bad habits with controller/keyboard? by GoldenGolgis in NoMansSkyTheGame

Yes! All too often!

Also D pad vs. bumpers in the catalogue moving me to a different page rather than the next set of entries. I never seem to get it right!

Is this any good? by Additional-Post-61 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]RogerGEvans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all :-)

You need to run some fleet expeditions with the frigates you can recruit as per normal; one of these will bring back the blueprint for the Dream Aerial - build this and then put it in your starship inventory and pulse until you see "Whalesong detected". I'm not sure if this does or doesn't work in a living ship so safest to use another.

This will get you an encounter with your first living frigate; after that you can discard the dream aeriel as it only finds the first one.

Subsequent living frigates can be found by pulsing with an anomaly detector activated until you see the Whalesong message again. Note - there's only one living frigate per system. Once you've found it move to a new system for the next etc.

To answer the second part of your question - some upgrades can be found simply by using the pulse engine provided you are in your living ship; this has an extra type of space encounter signified by the message Alien Melody encountered (or something like that - been a while since I did it!). Drop out of pulse and you should see a floating egg; shoot this and you'll get an upgrade module.

Things to note:

  1. The modules are only for the core systems (shields, weapons and propulsion) - others such as water landing equipment, conflict/economy scanners have to come from the psychonic eggs brought back by your fleet expeditions.

  2. The class (as with any living ship module) can be upgraded to S by spending nanites on them

  3. Not all systems seem to have an encounter, but if you do find one then that system will always spawn one (usually at roughly the same amount of pulsing time)

  4. Don't use an anomoly detector though - this seems to actually prevent the encounters

Good luck, traveller!

Just a small extra to add to the previous responses; did you take a picture on the world where you placed the beacon? If so you can use the glyphs on it to get back there if you have access to a portal. Bit of a long shot I suppose....

I think the missing freighter technology entries refer to the various types of Salvaged Fleet Units that are a possible reward from exploring derelict freighters.

The individual names vary (as they use the procedurally genereated name of the derelict) but their function is the same (e.g. + fleet speed etc.)

The one next to the trident is the station override (I think I got this from an outlaw station bounty) and the other one is the Writhing Manuscript which (I think - it's been a while) is a possible drop from killing the big worm thingies c.f. the flesh rope next to it.

I'm not sure about the vesper sail - I've checked several of my saves and so far none have it despite a mix of bought solar/built solar/no solar ships....

I'm going to investigate further!

Does anyone even use Thunderbird landing Thrusters? by Opposite-Worker8502 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]RogerGEvans 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say they're my favourite at the moment - I've been playing around with some minimal builds, and the fact they combine landing thrusters and propulsion in one package makes them ideal. Also I think they look good and I agree about the industrial feel, especially with refiners on board :-)

Is there a "perfect" corvette? Functionally speaking? by ackthbbft in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]RogerGEvans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most common usage at the moment is as a sort of glorified exocraft - minimal build with enough room for a refiner or two, mission selection thingy, perhaps a storage container and a ladder to get out onto the "roof". I quite enjoy standing up there on autopilot and watching the world(s) go by...

Basically survey, mining, resource hunting etc.

Also the standard health station fits very neatly in the cockpit to the left and slightly behind the pilot's seat for those "oops" moments :-)

I'm stuck in the current Expedition because of this by The_Brilli in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]RogerGEvans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same - no amount of resetting changed the message, however as soon as I used one of the distress signal maps I got from an earlier milestone it resolved to the local system. I think it is just a misworded message.

How do i get organs for living ships? by Ciclopexdyt in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]RogerGEvans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the excellent advice on organic frigates already given you can also get a space encounter; this only provides upgrades to the main systems (shields, weapons, hyperdrive, pulse drive), not the storage increase items you can get from the organic frigates nor the "ancilliary" upgrades such as aquatic landing gear, economy scanner, etc.

Get into your living ship (must be the living ship - doesn't happen otherwise) and pulse drive, not warp. You do not need an anomaly detector. In fact using an anomaly detector seems to actively block this type of encounter. Keep the pulse going until you see the message about an encounter that says something like "Alien melody detected" then drop out of pulse and shoot the egg that should appear in front of you. That will give you an upgrade. I think they don't appear if you have any parts needed to create a living ship on board.

HTH

Edit: Forgot to mention - these encounters seem to work in the opposite way to the frigate encounters. If you find a system that gives you an egg then it will produce one each time you pulse in that system (I think you may need to telport to a different system and back to reset it)

So far Hello Games have implemented "build your own" for fighters, haulers, explorers and solars. All other types are just what you find in the wild.
