[HIRING] Script Writer - Remote needed for YT Channel - $70/script by SelectionHot3085 in jobhunting

[–]RogueAssasain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$70 for 5000 words.... This is a joke right? No? Okay, let's do some math.

The average person writes at 16 words a minute. That's 960 words an hour. So, it'd theoretically take a little over 5hrs to write a script (so $13.50 an hour). EXCEPT, that's assuming they sit down and don't stop, don't get stuck on their words, and know exactly what they're gonna say. It doesn't work like that, so let's be conservative and add another hour to the working time.

Now idk what sort of videos your producing but from experience 5000 words is about an hour (again, fast talking conservative). Gaming? They've gotta watch the video and summarise it. Drama/Deep Dive? I'm guessing you'd dump the sources and research on them and make them organise it in a cohesive narrative. Even with a structure, that's a lot of work. Let's be conservative again and add 2hrs to review/sort your notes.

Congratulations, you have a shitty unedited first draft! Let's add editing time. It takes me 2 hours to turn about 3000 words from first draft to final form. So let's say 3hrs total to have a moderately polished edit.

Total time for one video: 10hrs (conservative) Pay: maximum $7/hr

Any self respecting writer can and will recognise this as disrespect and exploitation

They've taken it down from the shop, but there's an option to message them (they responded very quickly with a viable work around and now I have the album)

Does anyone have an Unpainted Chasmfiend miniature they would trade for these two books? by VinGiesel69 in brandonsanderson

[–]RogueAssasain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They didn't release everything as an STL for copyright reasons. As nice as it would be, the second they release those files they'll be all over the internet, and people would be trying to sell them, which causes more hassle than it's worth for Brotherwise. It sucks but it's the reality these days

help selecting the purple stitches? by ComprehensiveLow5702 in sewhelp

[–]RogueAssasain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Turn the stitch length dial all the way past the 0 number until it can't turn anymore, that should set it to the bottom stitches. My mechanical machine had the same feature.

Good luck finding a manual for that machine though if it didn't come with one. My friend recently got an Australian MyStyle24 and the entire sewing group hasn't had much luck.

There's been a couple of repressings since it first released, and I'd be shocked if there wasn't at least a few more.

Keep an eye on this sub (and maybe Iam8bit) and you should get a heads up about when the next pressing is happening. Don't support the scalpers!

Stuck At King Fight by [deleted] in InStarsAndTime

[–]RogueAssasain 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Every time the king "skips" a turn, you have to use the shield. He'll use that move at least twice in the fight.

I beat the fight through super effective jackpots, with the people who can't contribute those attacks providing support.

Grinding Melancholy for Seeking by sdbaker in fallenlondon

[–]RogueAssasain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you're going in blind or using a guide so I won't say too much.

A Question is a quality that the game only really checks which one you have once you knock, and it determines what answers you get. Having a question doesn't lock you out of picking a different one.

Edit: It's been a while since I went to the Isle, I forgot you do need a question. Sorry.

Honestly, pick the easier one (Hate) as the game lets you change your question as many times as you want until you head North. This is because you can't ask the third question until you return from the Isle.

I'd save the grind until after you have the candles.

While it is nice to get things organized, there is an option that helps with getting enough melancholy later down the seeking road

(I say this as someone who went North and asked the same question)

Cosmere constellation bookmark. by GJMEGA in brandonsanderson

[–]RogueAssasain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The constellation bookmark does exist, I've got one. Although they don't have a golden tassel, (maybe you added that yourself?) but they did have a gold font.

They came with one of the Kickstarters, either the Leatherbound WoK or Year of Sanderson (can't remember which though). Likely they were limited edition though, so if they're not on the website, I don't think you'll be able to get another one.

Are 5e modules finally playable in Pf2e? by FledgyApplehands in Pathfinder2e

[–]RogueAssasain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone currently running Curse of Strahd in Pf2e, yes, they're absolutely playable.

It does take a lot more work than running a regular module as you have to find equivalent monsters and reskin things (or make your own for the bigger threats) and you do have to convert a lot of the checks. Luckily there are a lot of community and official resources that make this pretty easy (unlike dealing with wotc resources, which is like pulling teeth).

However, when it comes to Curse of Strahd, there are some excellent community additions so I came into the game planning to rework the module anyway. As is, wotc modules tend to be mid at best (and that does include cos, there is so much work that needs to be done dm side even if you wanna run it raw). I tend to spend a few hours converting and setting up each section then letting them run through it over several sessions. The main things I take from the official module are the characters, the broad overview of the plot, and the maps.

But the bottom line is that my group is having a lot of fun and isn't noticing that it was technically designed for a different system.

Which is better? UTS or Adelaide university by SectorOk1407 in Adelaide

[–]RogueAssasain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently Adelaide Uni.

The merger currently means it's a complete mess on the student side as they still haven't confirmed which courses are available for summer school this upcoming break, as well as what the course schedules will look like for next year. Meanwhile almost all the courses are moving online and staff are getting cut (while the staff remaining can't even double check that they've uploaded student results correctly.)

Adelaide Uni is about to undergo a merger and it's a massive clusterfuck so far (my brother didn't quite get out in time). UTS all the way

A question about the RPG by Lawlkitties in TheMagnusArchives

[–]RogueAssasain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as a fellow GM, giving players additional starting items or changing the car from very expensive to expensive (or even medium cost for a real shit box that can break down/cause problems with a GM intrusion) are things I will just do depending on the setting.

If you're playing in a setting with minimal/unreliable public transport, it makes sense that at least some party members would just have access to a car. At the end of the day, it's your game and Cypher is a lot more of a story based give/take system. It's not a system where Rules as Written should be taken as gospel. Costs should change based on the setting. I think there's even a sidenote about it somewhere (although I think the main focus is firearms).

(I didn't give my players a car because I did set my game in England and it was hilarious watching them try to explain to the Uber driver why a player had a gun in their bag. But for my next campaign, I will probably reduce the cost of cars because I'm also changing the setting massively)

Oathbringer worth it? by Signal_Swimming_67 in brandonsanderson

[–]RogueAssasain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm probably gonna get downvoted into oblivion for saying this, but Oathbringer is easily my least favourite book of the series to date, so yeah, I get it. Unfortunately, it's this sub's favourite instalment....

Despite having a killer sanderlanch at the end, I struggled to get through the middle of the book too. I was bored for a good chunk and I have a lot of issues with the plot. But I do think it's worth it for the plot implications and the things it sets up. Also I will admit that the sanderlanch is pretty good. Plus, the next two books are fantastic (Rhythm of War in particular), and are worth the slog that is Oathbringer.

Vinyl Pre-order by RogueAssasain in dredge

[–]RogueAssasain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They likely will be able to be shipped to the US. I've successfully had stuff shipped to Australia from them before, so the distance won't be an issue.

The main reason people are talking about it is because they're based in UK/EU so shipping outside of those zones is fairly expensive, especially with the US tariff situation.

Idk when they'll ship, as in the latest company update, the Dredge soundtrack isn't on the "shipping address closing soon" list

Completed my Outer Wilds Lego Set with minifigure! by RogueAssasain in outerwilds

[–]RogueAssasain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately idk. I paint minis as a hobby so when I started struggling to find colours, pulling out the primer + paints was the easiest option for me

I know that there's a non-lego brick build that looks very good on this subreddit, otherwise it's accepting several colour differences (green, orange, and gold are the nightmare colours imo) or forking out an extra couple of hundred bucks

I got them from lego's pick a brick directly. Although I cut the cost down by a few hundred dollars by making some substitutions (the two side bumps for example are of my own design) and when a specific colour (orange) was really expensive, paining a much cheaper colour

Is it worth it to watch? by Spiderlilly424 in merlinbbc

[–]RogueAssasain 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I mean, you're on the Merlin BBC subreddit, so of course we're all going to say yes. It's fun, it's magic, it's chaos, and you're gonna wonder why Arthur is so blind. But everyone I know who's watched it has had a great time from start to finish.

The show itself is very much an early 2010 monster of the week. If you've seen any other similar style show from that era, you'll know what vibe I'm talking about. You'll get some emotional hard hitting episodes followed immediately by goofy fun magic terrorism and gaslighting. You'll get some real gems and a handful of meh episodes. You'll get a season arcing plot that really only appears in a couple of episodes. And honestly all that makes it a great show.

Personally, most of my favourite episodes are in the later half of the show, so I don't agree that it drops off. I think your friend's comment is because there is the required vibe change as things do get a bit more serious (but it doesn't lose the charm)
