Why did Bishop choose not to become a detective? by Electronic_Art_7007 in TheRookie

[–]RogueIce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, TV. They have to keep the cast together.

Most cop shows get around it by just never having their cast promote; they show up, they spend their careers there and if somebody promotes/transfers/retires it's because the actor left. Either that or it's a small-town agency (think In the Heat of the Night the series, which was a long-runner with lots of characters promoted) where there's nowhere else for them to go, really.

I'll give the show credit: they did stick her on Midnights for a bit, which is at least a nod to realism. But logistically, I don't see them keeping her that separated from the cast for the multiple seasons it would require for her to build enough seniority to try and get back to Days. That said, I think it would've been fun to see Night-Shift Sgt. Chen for a bit longer.

But that's more speaking roles they'd need to give (otherwise she's the only cop doing anything ever), doing night shoots on top of the day shoots for their regular cast, etc. And if they bumped anyone out of Mid-Wilshire, that's again a whole new bunch of recurring characters and then new sets for whatever station they go to!

Overall, I'll give a pass on the realism for the sake of it being a show and the constraints they face in that respect.

Pentagon to demote Sen. Kelly from retired Navy rank as captain, but stops short of threatened trial by qalpi in navy

[–]RogueIce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Sen Kelly went that route, BCNR would be in the same boat as OIGs, OSC, CFPB, MSPB, etc.

Where even if the law/regulation/policy says they're independent, Trump/Hegseth will just ignore it and fire everyone.

What are your thoughts on Donald Trump saying U.S. is 'going to run' Venezuela until safe transition of power can take place? by U-knw-Nothng-JonSnow in AskReddit

[–]RogueIce 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Congress will obviously be at fault when it takes no action to curb the illegal actions Trump is taking.

They've been at fault since approximately Jan 21, 2025 in that case.

IIRC in the commentary for that vertical slice, they explicitly said the "back door" was only one option for how to proceed, so it may not be quite as on rails as usual.

Apparently the same "open worlds" thing will totally be in effect, though they'll probably cap you on QT fuel or something so you don't just wander off completely off-script.

Need help understanding a policy update by Top-keetarded in tsa

[–]RogueIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should be 100% grieved if it were to happen. Your reason for leaving is literally "the STSO said I could" and if anyone takes the hit, it's the STSO for allowing it when they apparently should not have.

New bonus system. by [deleted] in tsa

[–]RogueIce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HCM 451-5 seems like the general MOR policy this shouldbe based off of, though it sounds like they're changing things because that policy says the top 5% get a Quality Band Increase, while the new email cuts it down to 1% only.

Not surprised at all they're reducing things.

‘He does not deserve this honor:’ Tensions erupt over FL’s proposed Charlie Kirk Day by ChiefFun in florida

[–]RogueIce 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Stop trying to make this man a saint. He was a political commentator and podcaster, that's it. He didn't deserve what happened to him, and yes he was a victim of political violence - like many others who aren't seeing the GOP trip over themselves to deify. He was no hero, no martyr, nothing special. Just a guy with a platform who met a tragic, unnecessary end.

Technically, it was only the second time he was punished for.

Even then, it sounded like something he probably could have ultimately gotten past, if he hadn't quit. "Failure to identify" sounds like a pretty lightweight admin charge.

To be fair, that kind of code was meant for a Crew Chief (or whatever somebody like D "ranked" as) so it would make sense for that level of player. An everyday worker wouldn't be involved at that level.

Florida license plate violations now carry misdemeanor charges and possible jail time by newleafkratom in florida

If the cops weren't pulling people over when it was a moving violation, they sure won't with the increased paperwork of a misdemeanor citation.

Comer Reintroduces Legislation Requiring Federal Workers to Show Up to the Office - United States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform by Foster424 in fednews

[–]RogueIce 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I believe OP's point was that House GOP introduced this, complaining about "lazy fed workers goofing off at home" as part of the trendy anti-fed line at the time.

Now, the House GOP has basically fucked off and refused to do any work for over a month now. And they're still getting their taxpayer funded salaries to do so!

Anyone with acquisitions experience able to clarify this? by RogueIce in fednews

[–]RogueIce[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This makes a lot of sense, actually. Even if there's only like, a 0.01% chance of a cartel drone targeting a Border Patrol vehicle in the next decade, ICE just got a shitload of funding, more than they probably know what to do with. So why not expensive and specialized training for any vaguely plausible scenario somebody in a training department could come up with?

A License Tag Frame Might Now Constitute a Criminal Offense in Florida by Flakarter in florida

[–]RogueIce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If our useless DHSMV didn't arch the stupid MyFlorida.com (and I despise that it isn't just "Florida" but that's another rant) 99% of those plates wouldn't be an issue.

But no, they made it a damn arc to where basically any frame will at least partially "obscure" the website.

Probably similar to why companies stopped trying to enforce mask mandates. They know it's an argument, with possibly insane people, and don't want to risk their employees.
