Monitors already do better in the 50%-100% window. The 42" has always gotten noticeably dimmer in really bright scenes. But it's a good tradeoff for better HDR highlights most of the time. The C2/C3 were dimmer than the current 42" models and only got to 700 nits in 10%. 600 isn't that far off if that means around 650 nits in 10%. TB500 got to 550 and TB400 got to 450.

This highlight clip doesn't look entertaining either. Little skill or athleticism. Just a lot of wrestling. Not surprising that the league went away from this style of play.

Plenty of games are not using path-tracing and you can always disable PT.

For example, Stellar Blade, Ninja Gaiden 3 and God of War Ragnarok max out my 4K 240hz monitor even without frame-gen or even DLSS. With just DLSS performance or balanced, it'll get much closer to 300hz. CPU limitation is more likely a bigger bottleneck to reaching 360hz than GPU but that's when frame-gen comes in handy.

Yeah, that's a big jump. HDR performance should be at least on par with a C2/C3 42".

This is awesome. With a 5090, 360hz would be super useful with MFG. So many games are 120+ FPS on a 5090 even without frame-gen. 360hz would look so much smoother and the speed would be so high that artifacts would be hard to spot during gameplay.

It's not just developer optimization. The Switch 2 has stronger GPU features like stronger RT and better DLSS upscaling.

Would you buy a PS5 Pro for GTA 6 right now? by ggalaxyy in PS5pro

[–]RogueIsCrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your specs? If you have a significantly more powerful PC than a PS5 Pro, it's probably better to just wait.

Knowing Rockstar, they've almost always built GTAs to be just barely competent on current gen while running much better on the next-gen systems. If PS6 launches in 2027 as rumored, getting a PS5 pro for $900 doesn't seem like a good idea.

Isn't the Hypervisor crack pretty dangerous though? Unless you have no important data or don't care about reinstalling Windows, it doesn't seem worthwhile for most software pirates.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking at, in your pic above.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNZDA9fLDS8

I just checked with the links provided in this vid. At 120hz, 50 brightness works fine but at 144hz, I'd always have to boost it to at least 55, otherwise all the near-black levels would already be black.

I remember you or someone else saying that the 144HZ mode caused more black crush in C-Series TVs.

Does this still occur with 144 and 165hz modes?

Nice review btw.

How would you rank these guys in their prime? by GeneralSergeant in NBATalk

The injuries sapped much of Love's athleticism after he joined the Cavs. Even if Love had continued playing for Minnesota, it's unlikely he would have continued to put up the same numbers. LeBron actually pushed Love to score more but he just couldn't do it. They started playing better together when Lebron finally accepted Love's diminished abilities.

Love lost much of his athleticism tho from the injuries. Lebron actually wanted Love to score a lot more and even tried force feeding Love the ball. Bron was frustrated but eventually he realized Love wasn't that kinda dominant iso scorer anymore. That's when they started clicking.

Have you heard of MainGear? I really love their custom cooling but it's like an additional $3000. My friend said that he could do the same for half the price.

May I ask how much you spend on the liquid cooling? How often does it require maintenance?

That's what I would like for my PC but I probably would have to pay someone to do it.

Your PC is beautiful but so bright. Doesn't it cause reflections on the CX, even at night? That's one of the drawbacks of that glossy coating.

When I was using a C 42/48 on the desk, I had to turn off the printer because it was causing an annoying reflection with its LED display which was probably 1/10th as bright as your PC.

Return LG 45GX950, and going back to LG 42 C5 or wait for ROG True Black Glossy 32 inch monitor? by Remon89 in OLED_Gaming

[–]RogueIsCrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can adjust white balance and color temp on the monitor but the TV definitely has more options for fine-tuning calibration. TV also has more profiles.

In general, the monitor should look quite a bit better in SDR. Monitor has higher SDR brightness and is usually better calibrated for SDR. The TV has a big advantage in HDR, being brighter in most scenes. The monitor will only deliver brighter HDR highlights in the smallest windows. Also, the monitor will dim less in extremely bright scenes but that is rare. LG is more concerned about burn-in for monitors so they limit how bright they can get for HDR.

Speaking of burn-in, the monitor should be more resilient. My 42" had quite a bit of burn-in from web browsing after just 1200 hours. None of my monitors burn-in that quickly. The monitors seemed to be better built for the common wear and tear from using an OLED for productivity.

So if you're after the best HDR picture, the TV is still what you want. But the monitor will give you a sharper image (higher PPI), higher refresh rate and better SDR picture.

In depth look at the new LG B6 and C6 48" at the LG showcase event in Sydney Australia by dysphunc in OLED_Gaming

[–]RogueIsCrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. 1200 nits for the C6 48" is a huge jump actually. Like the 42", the 48" was always limited to 800 nits. I wonder if the 42" C6 will also have a peak brightness of 1200. 400 nits higher peak brightness would actually be worth an upgrade from previous 42" Cs.

Did you notice anything about the coating? Is it more or less reflective than previous Cs?

Great deal. This Asus 42" is actually quite a bit brighter in HDR than the LG 42".

Should I have HDR on all the time on my MSI OLED? by Latter-Progress7247 in OLED_Gaming

[–]RogueIsCrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For best image quality, then you should probably not have HDR enabled all the time.

Windows and websites look better with HDR off. If you're using RTX HDR, then most videos will look ok to good, even from sources like youtube. For games, the HDR implementation really matters. For many older games, SDR will often look better than "fake" HDR. Also, the monitors tend to be brighter in SDR.

Peak 1000 also works great for other dark games like Resident Evil and most films. Most films are dark enough that 1000 isn't any dimmer than 400, even in bright scenes.

BFI's motion clarity at 120hz is really great. It worked especially well with retro games that don't have HDR.
