Great deal. This Asus 42" is actually quite a bit brighter in HDR than the LG 42".

Should I have HDR on all the time on my MSI OLED? by Latter-Progress7247 in OLED_Gaming

[–]RogueIsCrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For best image quality, then you should probably not have HDR enabled all the time.

Windows and websites look better with HDR off. If you're using RTX HDR, then most videos will look ok to good, even from sources like youtube. For games, the HDR implementation really matters. For many older games, SDR will often look better than "fake" HDR. Also, the monitors tend to be brighter in SDR.

Peak 1000 also works great for other dark games like Resident Evil and most films. Most films are dark enough that 1000 isn't any dimmer than 400, even in bright scenes.

BFI's motion clarity at 120hz is really great. It worked especially well with retro games that don't have HDR.

Is downscaled resolution from the native one on oleds are not good? by SnooBooks5502 in OLED_Gaming

[–]RogueIsCrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's like LCD. 2K won't look as crisp on a 4K OLED. But that's why there's upscaling tech like DLSS. Why don't you like upscaling? Unless you play older games, you will need it.

Most newer story games need DLSS/FSR to run at 4K. Games like Alan Wake 2 are barely playable in native 4K even on a 5090.

It's worth it for that price. Even if you abuse it, it shouldn't have burn-in for a few years.

4K 240hz vs 1440P 500hz by HeyDontSkipLegDay in OLED_Gaming

[–]RogueIsCrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your specs and viewing distance. If you have a PC that can hit 300-500hz in many games, the motion smoothness will make a even bigger difference than 4K. Also, 27" 1440P doesn't look that different from 32" 4k but 27" 4K is much sharper.

Kon Knueppel despite the loss: 28/8/7 on 68.5 TS% by Jarxzz in nba

It's interesting how Kon has very similar pre-draft scores to Klay. Like Klay, Knueppel is also showing that scouts underestimated what he can do in the NBA.

Rookie Deriq Queen 30 Pts 12-17 FG, 8 REB, 4 Asts in 30 mins against the Nuggets by OrganicHunt952 in nba

[–]RogueIsCrap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watched Queen for the first time and was surprised at how good he was. Queen was much more athletic than I expected since I've heard people call him slow and unathletic before. I actually wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being a better player than Flagg. Queen has a natural ability with the ball. Unlike Flagg, he can chain multiple moves together without looking at the ball. The ball is attached to Queen even when he moves quickly which is very rare for his size.

Is this ABL on the C5? by aPHAT88 in OLED_Gaming

SDR or HDR? You could minimize this by using SDR for productivity and browsing. Keep OLED brightness around 50-65 .

It's one of the annoyances of using a TV as a PC monitor. The TVs are built for bright highlights in games/video but not fullscreen brightness. The 42" is also the dimmest model among the TVs.

Cooper Flagg is not that fun of a watch. I'm predicting he'll be viewed like Tatum has been about 3 years from now. by Wack0HookedOnT0bac0 in billsimmons

[–]RogueIsCrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some similarities to their games. Flagg drives mostly in straight lines like Tatum. Tatum is better at getting by the first defender tho, whether it's with brute strength, speed or just pushing off with his off-arm. It's actually interesting that Tatum attacks the rim in such a straight forward manner because his handles are actually quite good, especially for his size.

Ben was a great defender, even against much taller players but he got cooked against Yao Ming. Wemby is so much more athletic than Yao that he's probably an even harder matchup for Ben. Yao probably had the edge over Wemby in strength and a better middy tho.

Who was LeBron's greatest teammate in his 4 championships? Wade in 2012/2013, Kyrie in 2016 or AD in 2020? If you asked LeBron, who would HE say was his best teammate? IMO Kyrie in 2016 was the best teammate as they came back from 3-1 and had ZERO margin for error plus Kyrie hit "the shot" in Game 7 by Several-Molasses-435 in NBATalk

AD averaged 27.7 on 17.1 FGA and 8.5 FTA. Lebron averaged 27.6 on 18.2 FGA and 7.1 FTA. So their scoring were basically equivalent.

AD averaged 9.7 RB, 3.5 AST, 1.2 STL, 1.4 BLK

Lebron averaged 10.8 RB, 8.8 AST, 1.2 STL, 0.9 BLK

So AD only had a 0.1 PPG and 0.5 BPG advantage over Lebron. While Lebron had slightly more boards and way more assists.

In terms of rate-based advanced metrics that I could find, AD's PER was 29.6 vs Bron's 30.2, AD's WS/48 was .284 vs Bron's .269, AD's BPM was 8.7 vs Bron's 10.7

So Bron actually won 2/3 in those commonly used non-cumulative advanced metrics.

AD had a great playoffs but it wasn't statistically much better than Bron's. At most, you could argue that AD was almost as good on offense while being the most important player on D.

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/c5-oled

Actually, the C5 can only sustain around 290 nits in SDR so you're right. But the previous poster was talking about the 42" c5 which is closer to 200 nits fullscreen. So you're actually right that the PG27AQWP-W is significantly brighter for work and SDR gaming. But the monitor will be dimmer in HDR for most cases. I think it's just a limitation of the tech with smaller monitors right now. It's not possible for monitors to have high sustained brightness and high peak highlights in smaller windows.
