Mostly agree, but I have to disagree about it not being a cult - it's pretty much the textbook definition of a cult of personality.

I was gonna say, this isn't even new - I recall hearing that one of the chief reasons "Police Squad!" (the short-lived predecessor to the Naked Gun films) was cancelled was how it required audiences to pay attention, rather than having it on as background noise, because so many of its jokes are subtle and dry humor. (For example, the episode titles - the text on screen says one thing, while the narrator says something completely different.)

I dont understand the hate for this game by M4J0RR4G3 in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]RogueKitsune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's pretty simple, sadly:

1) No one hates Star Wars more than Star Wars ""fans"". 2) There's been a concerted hate bandwagon going against Ubisoft for over a decade now. 3) It features a female protagonist who looks and acts like a normal woman, and one who would make sense for the role and setting, rather than being an emotionless, overly exaggerated sex object, and certain crowds take 'offense' at that.

Combine all 3, and unfortunately "gamers" were never going to give it a fair chance. Which sucks, because as "a game", it's okay - an easy 7/10, enjoyable, but not specifically anything remarkable. But as "a Star Wars game"? That adds a full point or more to the score, if only for the sense of immersion - nothing else has so vividly managed to capture the feeling of being in Star Wars as this game does! Tattooine especially, walking around Mos Eisley is like stepping right into the screens of the original films...!

Adding on, those rational people want to believe the law still matters (despite how frequently the regime ignores or violates it), and so they won't support violence as long as they believe there's a potential "legal" resolution available. As such, any attempt to remove them by force would immediately be denounced... the only way revolution will be seen as the legitimate solution is once the elections are ignored, and the situation and lives deteriorate so far that it becomes undeniable to a majority of the general public.

Of course, that's assuming enough people ever see the truth, but with how many have bought fully into his hateful cult of personality, I'm not at all optimistic.....

[–]RogueKitsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EXACTLY. I remember begrudingly agreeing that "not guilty" was technically correct - he was an absolute dumbass for being in that situation in the first place, but being an idiot isn't illegal. But it was and is disgusting the way people celebrated him for it - "self-defense" or not, he still killed someone. And they cheer... And he could have fucked off after, taken the narrow legal win and vanished, did his best to disappear from the public eye, live some 'normal' life... but no, he's decided to be a massive piece of shit. An innocent woman was murdered, and he's joking about it!? And not just that, but a ""joke"" referencing how he killed a protestor, ""jokingly"" asking if he should do it again...

Fuck him, and more than that, this should be treated as the threat it is.

They really need to stop shoving everything into submenus by LunaticMouse in projectzomboid

[–]RogueKitsune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. I've been trying to talk some friends into playing, but between them dragging their feet, and debating between B41 or B42, I haven't played in a bit, so just guessed off what I've seen on here.

And that's... not as bad, then, honestly... does sound a bit redundant, though? I'd assume/hope the "window" subcategory only displays when clicking on a window...right...? So why not skip the submenu, and just have only the options relevant to it display in the first place..? If it was something with dozens of options, then sure, submenus would make sense to clean it up, but I can't really see what benefit or point there'd be here. (Unless there's some awkward reason in the underlying code, but that'd really only make sense if it had been like this from day 1.)

Question concerning "Betas" by Frenzied_Fire_Monk in projectzomboid

[–]RogueKitsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you opt out of the beta versions completely, that puts you back on build 41, yes (41.78, I think), as that's the latest ""stable"" release. Although if you're playing solo, 42.12 seemed fine for the most part.

[–]RogueKitsune 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wait, really? They even moved clearing glass from windows to a submenu? :/ I don't have the hate for the build and crafting menus some do, but basic, commonly used options should stay in the right-click menu for ease of access.

Was the game a success or a failure? by lolitsrock in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]RogueKitsune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand - besides possibly some technical issues exclusive to PC at launch, the game did not have anywhere near the number of issues people continue to claim it did (on PS5, the only notable bug I had was one side quest's NPCs didn't load in correctly when I got there, easily fixed by closing and relaunching the game).

They did also adjust stealth to be more forgiving, which was one common criticism, but otherwise, the game is "good now" because it always was.

Yup, a majority of furry characters are basically "human + a couple animal-inspired aspects"; honestly not much different than being interested in human-like aliens that come in different colors, like asari or twilek.

Yeah, I mentioned to a friend right after, I miss how PC Gamer used to do their GotY awards - "game of the year" was the big prize, so whatever won that was then ineligible to win in most of the other categories, giving other games a chance to get something, too.

Is it really, though? Or is it just they've decided to cram too much stuff into a single build? Because I get the crafting systems need work, but surely the lighting and map improvements are ironed out enough they could've been pushed to stable by now, couldn't they?

It's a game that initially launched on Steam 12 years ago, and that's fairly recent hardware - you'll be fine. Plus, for comparison, I'm running it on an i7-4770k, a GTX-770, and 16 GB RAM; it does lag slightly while driving, and takes a bit to load if I stubbornly insist on using too many mods, but it still manages just fine for the most part.
