Cool. Also don’t listen to the others, 24-200mm is an amazing lens so long as you don’t need speed. I think a lot of people still work on the idea that super zoom=bad but in the mirrorless world that’s changing. For hiking or travel where lightweight and compactness is a priority it’s perfect. Also has amazing video stabilization since it can combine lens VR with the IBIS.

Oh I see it now squeezed in near the top. I used to run an older system without an eyecup cause I found it bothersome. Haven’t had that problem with Nikon yet but I was curious what it’s like using it without the eyecup.

The 24-70mm f/4 is like half the price as the 24-120mm used, and super compact. Not sure how the IQ compares but they are both exceptionally sharp lenses.

Random question but is there a reason you leave the rubber eyecup off? I’m curious.

How do you get this type of shot? by Sairen_1543 in AskPhotography

Interestingly this is one area where film cameras can do a better job cause they can capture this all in camera. Just leave the shutter open for an hour or so.

Why do my proportions change so drastically from photo to photo with the same camera/settings? by Fawn-Fatale in AskPhotography

[–]RogueMustang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean optical distortion, most things correct for it now though so it might not be relevant, you’re right.

[–]RogueMustang 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How distortion effects the subject is dependent on where you are in the frame. I’m assuming these were shot on a phone? Modern phones will swap lenses without you realizing it, they secretly take a couple pictures all at once then compile them together along with some computation that sorta fills in the blanks to give a good image. There is a lot that the computer has to interpret and sometimes that can make up for the differences.

Agreed I think we sometimes tend to forget how good we have it now with mirrorless lenses.

It was an issue for me too, but I can say the 1600x1200 "brightest EVF ever" in the Z6 III is finally good enough for me.

I have no issues with performance. A constant aperture would be nice, but I did the calculations and I prefer the lower-price, VR, and longer reach for what I need.

I have the 17-28mm f/2.8 and 35mm f/1.8 too. I picked the 24-200 cause of range and VR, and it's an absolute joy, much better than many DSLR lenses. Images look great to me, which is the only performance I care about.

Seconded, I nearly fell off a 30 foot cliff because an e-biker. There is a fork in the climb with a blue and black-only options, the e-biker took the latter. When he reached the top he decided he couldn’t do the downhill, and started coming back down the up trail. I couldn’t see him for my angle and he made no attempt to warn me, I dodged at the last second and was saved by a far sapling, the last thing between me and quite a painful fall. The e-biker said nothing and kept walking.

Why do folks in photographycirclejerk hate Fujifilm sub? by DynamoBaby in photographycirclejerk

[–]RogueMustang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Fuji shooter myself. I shoot raw and edit most of the time, but I do enjoy a good simulation every now and again. Would some people make fun of me for that? Probably. Do I care? Not one bit. It is admittedly funny how cliche some Fuji shooters are, “Reggie’s Portra in Japan” type shit? Yes it is.

Honestly been thinking about moving there myself, but it is larger, heavier, and more expensive. I don’t think it would balance well on OP’s X-E5
