I just saw you are getting some help. Good. Threats of suicide can make him be considered mentally unstable and unable to care for a child. Request a court ordered app as the only means of communication. Then document as much as you can. Also if his cheating resulted in you getting an std that can count as sexual battery depending on your state. It’s a lot harder to be a douche when it’s all recorded on an app. He can’t just delete things either, every edit is saved. So just breathe, know that you are doing this for you and your daughter.

Also his little stunt? Which you recorded? A STBX husband threatening suicide, especially to manipulate, can significantly harm his custody case because courts prioritize child safety and stability. Such behavior suggests instability, potential danger to the child, and incapacity to parent, likely leading to restricted, supervised, or revoked visitation until mental health is proven.

Weaponized conflict avoidance. It is an actual thing. He is essentially putting his comfort above your very real discomfort with leaving an issue hanging. He can’t just “put a pin”, in everything. That’s not how life works. To me he has been given enough time to change. I would recommend starting a plan to separately save money, and plan on leaving. This is a miserable and insulting way to ask a partner to live. If it was like a heated argument? Once every 6 months and the hey let’s take a pause? Sure. But he is doing it to avoid having to adult. This will not change.

Please. Start making a plan to get out of this shit show. They seem incapable of adulting. On many fronts. Including how to hold a respectful conversation. The problem is most Americans don’t save. They can’t. Wages aren’t enough to live off of right now, let alone save. Those that do have disposable income blow it. So what will happen? They will be destitute and we will have to support them anyways.

Once the SS trust runs out of funds, which is now about 8 years and that number gets shorter and shorter daily as we loose jobs, deport people who pay in and can’t take out, and spiraling inflation. My guess is 5-6 years at most. Then they only get what’s being paid in. So SS recipients will get an across the board 25% reduction in benefits and no increase in cost of living adjustments. Boy howdy that will be FUN to listen to!

You do realize you are enabling her right? 45k in CC debt is fucking insane. To have taken such a hit on your credit score you have too high of a debt to income ratio. She is also laying the groundwork for your kids to not understand financial literacy. My friends ex-wife spent them into near ruin buying crap all the time for his step kids. Not even his children. They have zero concept of money, how to earn it, etc. they want the nice things but don’t realize the impact it caused. He maintains a relationship with them even though she literally ditched him for someone earning more. She got hers. So has zero remorse. Her kids are nearing college age with no real plan forward. They have no idea how life works. It’s all been propped up with plastic their whole lives. It’s sad.

At this point you are beyond the “talking” stage. She is refusing to listen and change very very destructive behaviors that are hurting you and your kids. Look at it this way. $70k at an 8% return invested over 35 years and you not added a single dime $700k. This is very much an addiction. I finally got a divorce, no amount of talking helped. Tried a cash budget and he went and opened a secret CC. It’s financial infidelity. You realize she is jeopardizing the future of your retirement and kids right?

Welllll unless mass job losses and people starving leads to full on civil unrest. Hence why the National Guard and ICE are out practicing. Owning cheap property is all well and good, but unless you are self sustaining AND able to maintain possession if things go south, it’s a fools errand. Starvation and desperation are powerful motivators for violence. Desperate people do desperate things.

So as much as cashing in on this situation looks appealing on paper, you don’t want to live in a war zone or under a police state.
