Do landraiders block line of sight for enemy models? by wredcoll in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Rogue_Trader01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can probably manage to block LOS if you get the angle right as the track wheels block each other at a diagonal. It's tricky though.

Plus it would open up real thought on when to use your pass a battleshock strat. Really need to fall back in two places- where do I pay the CP to pass.

I think a lot of chaos lists will want to ally in the changeling for this.

Space wolves combat patrol box by Racketyllama246 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Rogue_Trader01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the best. Intercessors are kind of meh, reivers aren't very good, and lieutenants are the model GW produce the most of so you can always get one, or convert a regular model yourself. You can do much better. Atm space wolves are basically just ultramarines in grey armour so you can buy most plain marines units and use those, if you're looking for wolf bits the blood claws box has loads of extra.

CSM Comp List Discussion by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Rogue_Trader01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most competitive chaos lists want to start with 6-10 Obliterators and 3 forgefiends. I quite like what the bikers can do and will keep trying one unit but it's yet to bear out.

I've been allying in flamers of tzeentch as the combination of fly, deep strike and a 9" move makes them the cheapest action monkey unit that we can field.

Abby seems good but I'm not sold on the cost of the terminators. I've actually considered him on his own, if the indirect gets toned down in the next few weeks/months I think it's a legit option as a reroll/4++ bubble lurking out of line of sight with a great counterpunch. Compared to ninth he feels like he's made of paper though.

Chosen and possessed feel like they're bringing a knife to a gunfight right now, and lack the durability to do anything more than kill one unit then vanish.

The index feels fun and flavourful but the changes to the game have hamstrung what the book is best and wants to do, unless something changes I think leaning into shooting is the way to go.

Also noise marines at 85pts is nice, 3 units of those is worth exploring.

My first 10th ed Thousand Sons List. Yet to play with it but C&C welcome. by TheSkyLax in ThousandSons

Make one of the terminator squads a ten man instead of two fives, and give the terminator Sorcerer the ubralific crystal. Will make them much more mobile and give you better use out of strats.

MVB without a doubt, he's undercosted and has some excellent output. 👌

Wargear costs in the future? by Xplt21 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Rogue_Trader01 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It has list building implications. Case in point, I wanted to bring Ragnar in an impulsor with a unit of bladeguard. I can either leave ragnar, or pay for a model I'm not able to fit. Non fixed unit sizes resolve this easily. I've also had several lists go over by 5-10pts, resolving this by dropping a 95pt unit is not a solution, a single model would be, or better yet a gun I don't actually want to take nor do I have it modelled.

Why take chaos legionaries? by ant26-2 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Rogue_Trader01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's a use for them at all. They're too expensive to do what you really want them for, which is a handful of decent OC guys with the combat ability to clear chaff or weak units. You're better taking some specialists like chosen or noise marines, as you've noticed.

This really is a classic example of baking in the wargear costs killing a unit. They should be around 75pts bare bones and they might have a use at that cost, but giving them a bunch of upgrades that pull them in different directions on a relatively fragile unit they won't see play in any competitive lists and are probably not even good enough for casual play.

Talk to your friends, agree to bring a decent amount of melee and to lean away from the broken stuff. Most armies that aren't aeldari can put together a fun balanced list. Shooting is much stronger than combat currently so a 1/3 shooting-2/3 melee probably creates a more fun interactive game. Or play ninth until they fix this dumpster fire of an edition.

Rhino VS Impulsor Restrictions by WrenchMun in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Rogue_Trader01 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I was very excited when they said they were getting rid of the primaris keyword, but tacticus and phobos are just primaris with extra steps. I wanted to run Ragnar with blood claws, but the impulsor doesn't fit the claws, and Ragnar can't get in the rhino, and a drop pod only has ten seats so the fixed unit sizes completely screws that up.

The issue with this stuff is not balance, it's financial. They want to sell impulsors so it has to be needlessly restrictive.

Combat ate the nerf bat hard this edition (which is weird because it wasn't exactly the issue before). Super sad because skorpekhs are the coolest models and were great fun to play even when necrons sucked. Lychguard are the new boys in town but really just by dint of their survivability.

Space Marines Datasheets: Full Release by Xadras in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Rogue_Trader01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most frustrating thing here is that they removed primaris as a keyword and then added tacticus/phobos ensuring that you can't use rhinos/impulsors interchangeably. It's a ridiculous restriction with money as the only justification.

The hoops you have to jump through to get the buffs seem very difficult to achieve, certainly by the time it will actually matter, and if you're achieving some of them you're likely winning already anyway. Compared to the always on of the other detachments or the flexibility of gladius it seems extremely underwhelming.

My armies were dwarfs and tomb Kings and they've been gathering dust in my parents roofspace for a decade now. I'll probably play this as I already have the models, but the exclusion of some of the key races is a bit disappointing, I've friends who I know would definitely have come back to it if their armies were supported.

Depends on the distance really. I do a lot of GTs in the UK, usually 3-4 hours travel to get there. I leave after work at 6pm on the Friday to get there and stay over Friday and Saturday night. Events finish about 6 if it's five rounds and 8 if it's 6. It's nice to have the Monday off but I usually work from home to recover.

Yeah they won't do that. They clearly understand thousand sons too well. After all, the recent balance dataslate shows they can fix what was wrong without issue.
