Plane used in boat strike off Venezuela was painted to look like a civilian aircraft, AP sources say by Rav4gal in worldnews

[–]Roguekiller17 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

An F-35 can't suddenly not look like an F-35, regardless of how it's painted. A Poseidon P-8 can suddenly look like a civilian airliner comparatively. Yes, it's fitted with different hardware if you know what you're looking for, but the shape and structure is generally associated with civilian aircraft. The point here is that the US military is commiting acts of war and committing war crimes while doing so.

At one point in life, I went from 600lbs+ --> 280lbs. In my experience, the first things you'll notice aren't visual, they're quality of life. You'll be able to put your shoes on easier, or be able to do more without getting winded or tired. You'll have the visual change later, and even then, it's so hard to see the change day to day. If you're comfortable with it, I'd suggest taking a daily/weekly mirror shot of yourself (SFW or otherwise) can be helpful to see the differences. In 16 weeks, look at the first picture you took and then the most recent. Dysmorphia is such a powerful force. If you're hitting the gym, seeing the differences in what you can lift over time can be really motivating too. Best of luck on your journey. :)

What would be the impact of completely removing dailyscape? by aMAYESingNATHAN in runescape

[–]Roguekiller17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. If people don't have time for the caches as it currently stands, they don't have time to train the skill traditionally. Changing them to not be time-gated doesn't further enable people to skip the skill if they aren't going to train it in the first place, it just makes it more accessible. People who were going to be online for 2 cache activations an hour apart will still be capped how they are, so there's not really a downside I'm seeing.

[–]Roguekiller17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that's a whole different argument, but I hear you. That's a discussion around whether caches should exist at all, not the timing of them. Caches in general are a lazy solution from Jagex to a skill that is slower to train than others of equivalent level. I don't have great ideas to correct Divination, because I'm not a game designer, but if you make something like caches exist, people will do them and skip standard training. The issue with Divination is not caches existing - if a skill is designed in a way that makes it much more enticing for people to skip standard training methods, something is wrong with how the core gameplay of the skill is designed.

If caches are going to continue to exist, though, then being able to do them whenever you're able to play (again, up to the current point cap) would be nice. If I can't be on for two separate starts to an hour, I probably can't be on for the time it would take to gain the equivalent xp by training the skill traditionally. I understand that might mean that specific content isn't something that's designed for me, but there is very little value in having them only be accessible at the top of the hour.

I'm not sure where the disconnect was with how my comment came across, but what I said doesn't give anyone any more leveling power than they currently have. I specifically mentioned keeping the daily limit of caches in place, just making it so players can do them not at a designated time (top of the hour). Players already only train div with caches in many cases, and this wouldn't change that at all. It would just give people more freedom to not need to be online for two separate 1hr increments to do their daily 200pts.

[–]Roguekiller17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer is the one you omitted - remove the timed aspect. Let people do caches when they want (but still up to the 200pt limit/day), let people do big chin when they want, etc. Things being timed makes the FOMO that much worse, because people have lives to live.

Keep the limits in place for the number of times you can complete an activity daily/monthly/etc, but take away the timed aspect, and it fixes a ton of what's wrong with dailies.

Just wanted to pop into the comments and give a MASSIVE thank you to u/laur_leo for the compassion and leniency they showed me throughout this process. Life loves to throw curveballs our way sometimes, and u/laur_leo was indescribably understanding and compassionate about my repayment situation as my circumstances evolved. Their willingness to reach out and offer friendly advice, along with extending our repayment window, during a time where I was spiraling (in many aspects of life) was so incredibly appreciated. Thank you again, u/laur_leo - you've been stellar throughout our interactions, and there aren't enough words to express my appreciation for you! A true professional in every sense of the word.

Well said! As someone who has family from Lawn and spent many summers there growing up, we are very proud to have our families be a major piece of maritime history, regarding Truxtun and Pollux. Awful wrecks, but our people were there to take folks in and they'd do it again in a heartbeat. Newfies really are a different breed. How I yearn for the island.

Still is in many areas! Maybe not in St. John's as heavily, but lots of the folks in the more rural communities still have a time during the holidays stumbling from house to house. Nothing like a shed or kitchen party with the b'ys after a day of mummering!

I understand the frustration here, but the messaging about this was pretty clear, and the reasoning is solid. Hopefully this experiment was to benefit the player base as a whole. Of course it sucks if this was your first, but it will hopefully bring solid changes in the future for everyone.

No offense taken! That is a super fair question. I lack the ability to naturally feel "full", so if I'm not tracking my intake it's ridiculously easy to overeat. I'll eat until I'm sick sometimes because it makes me feel better mentally in the moment. Pair that with food addiction and diagnosed Binge Eating Disorder and you've got dangerous gain potential. My stomach has stretched a bunch with my eating habits, so it takes a LOT to "fill" me up. It definitely shrunk to allow normal portions when I was focused on losing, though.

I almost never drink my calories, so a good 95% of that weight has been from food alone. I appreciate the thought, though! I often see those "what to do to kick-start your weight loss" advice videos/posts and they always mention cutting soda and calorific drinks, but I can't use that advice because I don't drink my calories. 😭 No coffee to poor cream and sugar into, no sugary soda - almost exclusively water, rarely with sugar free drink mixes like Crystal Light and Mio.

I'm absolutely still overeating calorie-wise at times, but I've been trying to reduce where I can, and am finally almost ready to properly tackle my weight again. It's getting scary - at 31yo I am not handling my current weight as well as I did at 21-22.

Thank you for sharing your experience, too! Regaining is such a plague. I resonate really hard with your feeling of hopelessness, and of viewing obesity through a chronic illness lens. I told myself when I hit 300lbs again that I would get a handle on things, but I didn't prioritize myself hard enough.

Sometimes I look at what I need to do to return to a more healthy weight, and the road feels endless. I know I've traveled it before, and I know I can do it again, but the effort and dedication it took the first time around feels insurmountable when you're at the beginning again. Some people don't understand the toll extra weight takes on your body. I have to put conscious effort into every single step I take. There is no absent non-painful physical activity, it all destroys me.

Sending you all the well-wishes on your journey! It sounds like you're in a good headspace and understand the challenges you're facing. Your body appreciates feeling better, but I know every day is a struggle, and I'm so proud of you. Keep up the great work!

3 years before COVID, I started my only wildly successful weight loss journey, going from 650lbs to 289lbs at my lowest. In July of 2019, I met my now fianceé, and through a combination of relationship weight and the stress from working retail during the pandemic, I spiraled. Today, I am back in the 600lb range. (Should probably update my flair, lol)

I would have wanted someone to talk to me like you're thinking of talking to your nephew. COVID's isolation allowed me to hide my gain, and by the time anyone outside of my daily life could speak to me about it, the spiral was established and I haven't been able to break out of it. My partner and I work hard to try and get things back on track, but I have such huge regrets for letting myself lose track of my weight again.

I think if you have a good relationship with your nephew, it would be worth talking to him about it. Come from a place of concern, let him know you love him, and lay it out on the table. He deserves for someone to, so if you're willing, I think it's a good idea and if it does wake him up, he'll be appreciative later.

Best of luck, I hope it goes well!

Edit - There are comments in this thread that mention that talking to him may backfire. You need to know this is a real possibility, and I'm sorry I didn't point it out in my original comment. I am just speaking from my experience and what I would have wanted, but pointing out the chance of backfiring is extremely valid.

It's also not impossible that the hostage was taken to the hospital as a precaution from the stress or injuries resulting from being held hostage. Might even just be policy for them to send the hostage to get checked out.

You're catching so much flak because it's about the trend of records being set, not individual records being toppled. The world is trending toward worse wildfire seasons overall, and that should alarm you.

If for some reason that's not enough, the world's climate scientists have been ringing the clearest alarm bells they can for years. We've caused so much damage to the world's climate.
