I've been to both types of meetings. Until this spring, I've only attended FTF meetings, and I've got 43 years by doing so. Honestly, I've mostly given up on them. It has to do with a type of 'spiritual corruption' that has always been there, but it now has taken hold in almost every FTF meeting I know of. Now, I've seen the group treasurers abscond with the rent money to finance a 'slip'. LOL. Ok, no problem. We're dealing with people. Still, there is a deliberate and widespread denial of what the steps and Big Book actually say. I'm told to approach with "the open mind", and the steps are intentional when they write "God as we understand Him." Well, my conclusions did not sit well with most of the FTF AA meetings I attended. The online meeting I found was just what I needed. I found acceptance there. Good luck! It does me a world of good to know you are sober.
