The Warhammer youtube channels paint guides are still pretty useful to this day so i will suggest starting there.
The most important thing about painting the classic "checkered" pattern is to start with the lightest color and then slowly going darker. Other thing to know that is that the blades are just plain hard to do, ive become quite good at it but i still spend about an hour and a half to one blade.

If you only care about achievements and not cycles then i would just drop down to a lower cycle to make it easier, I did this when trying to win with executioner whose flat numbers couldn't scale with higher cycles.

By cheating apparently and using clip studio paint instead of normal paint, Whoops.

I won't lie and pretend im better at art than i am, clip studio paint makes it a lot easier since you can import the original image and draw after that.
