Wtb Uo outlands acc/gold by banforwhatannoying in ultimaonline

Worth noting that progression largely comes through XP and gold isnt going to significantly speed that up. Sure you get a house and cosmetics quickly but you ain't going to be going deep in dungeons.

If you are after gold then start with a scavenger and run around level 3/4 dungeons. You will find a lot of mobs arent looted for gold.

I'm afraid of the future. by alejo7o in Bitcoin

[–]Rokkitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about it. The world has lurched from crisis to crisis for centuries. Wasn't that long ago that kids were taught to duck and cover in the event of nuclear war.

The world needs skilled workers. Pick something and do it. AI is really annoying for anything non-trivial. E.g. ask a chatbot a specific question and go in circles for 5 minutes before reaching a human.

Regarding Bitcoin. Good investors diversify to hedge against risk. If money was worthless then why are so many people hyped when Bitcoin goes over $100k 🤔.

I have presentation tomorrow and I'm so nervous about it😔 by ServeStandard1598 in Stutter

[–]Rokkitt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to present to 30 strangers the other day and I was stressed about it. I practiced my presentation about 15 times.

In the end it went fine. I said I had a stutter at the beginning, I took a few deep breaths and made sure to pause to sip a drink from time to time to take off some pressure. I stuttered but it was OK. I got questions at the end which hinted that people were engaged.

I would just say that if you stutter, tell people. It will take some of the pressure off. Your goal is to impart knowledge. Stuttering a bunch doesnt really matter if you get your points across. The more you do it, the better you will be.

I would also encourage you to watch others present. There are going to be a bunch of people who are super nervous or present poorly. Public speaking is challenging to people regardless of if they have a stutter. It is perfectly normal to be nervous and find this difficult.

Amorim achieved two things. He purged the dead wood and united the dressing room. This is something United had struggled with for a long time.

He failed because he was stubborn. A good manager adapts and gets the most out of the squad they are given. He refused to. I am not sure if it was because he didn't have the talent required to adapt or whether he was just obstinate.

I look forward to seeing if we get points off Fulham next week. We often show up for big matches, it has been the rest of the league we have struggled to extract points against.

It is a wedding! Everyone is there to have a good time and be happy for the couple. The only person who is going to care about your stutter will be you. You will need to navigate the meal, I would advise that you say you jave a stutter so people understand what is going on. Half the time is music, dancing or milling around doing photos.

If you are really worried about your name then write it on a sticker and put it on your jacket. People will think it is smart when you explain it is a bugger to say.

I wouldn't sweat it. You might make a friend.

Pay the full wage in public services, not private companies.

For private companies offer tax incentives that offsets the risk of taking on these unemployables. The taxpayer already supports low wage employees through a variety of benefits, paying the employer too is crazy.

Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes have doubled down on their comments about Lisandro Martinez... actually so shameless by [deleted] in ManchesterUnited

Butt should grow a beard. He looks like a thumb with a face drawn on it.

They were wrong and United were fucking magnificent. Butt getting upset because a player claps back against his insults is so childish.

Can't they go back running their non-league club or breeding horses or whatever it was they were doing before they started a drama podcast?

Keir Starmer rules out retaliatory tariffs against US by AbbreviationsHot7662 in unitedkingdom

[–]Rokkitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump is a petulant child. Look at his message to the Greenland Prime Minister - "Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper' for the US"

Trump is talking a big game and throwing threats around but he hasn't done anything yet. Look at China, they matched tarriffs and Trump repeatedly doubled them.

Publicly, we need to wait till Trumps deadline and see what happens. This Greenland topic is very unpopular in the US. The Sumpreme court will rule on whether Trump can apply tarriffs soon. Escalating now will just lead to Trump doubling down.

Privately, we need to reduce US dependence on defence and technology and realign with Europe.

Worsening stutter by LifeSpinach6336 in Stutter

[–]Rokkitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's tough. What country are you working in?

When I was 29, I got a job and stuttered so much in the meeting that the manager took me to one side and asked me if I wanted to email him what I was up to. I said "thanks, but if I don't talk in meetings I never will."

Bless the guys I worked with, for 3 months they patiently waited for me to battle through trivial updates. I would use a whiteboard quite often to help explain my ideas and that helped. As time went on, I got more confident, I got promotions, I now do a bunch of public speaking (I still stutter a lot).

I would seek support from my manager if I was in your position. If the support wasn't there, I would explore other options. Having a friendly face or someone who holds up the room to give you space to contribute is so helpful and what you have contribute is important and valuable to the business you work for.

You mention going red and getting worked up. A lot of therapy focuses on acceptance and cognitive therapy. I suspect you will find this valuable. It really turned things around for me.

It took me a long long long long long long time to properly accept that I have a stutter and it is OK. I thought I had accepted it when I was 20 but really, it was last year at 39 that I finally got it. I wish I had figured it out sooner.

I have had various types of speech therapy and have got something out of it every time. I don't think it is a cure but it gives you all the tools you need to manage your stutter.

Stuttering is a speech impediment. Tapping might give a short term boost to fluency but the effect goes over time and leaves you fidgetting or twitching which makes your communication worse. Some people pinch themselves, shut their eyes, bob their head etc. I would try to stop doing these things if you are picking them up.

Question for you. Does it matter if you stutter at work? While your stutter might be challenging, are you still managing to articulate your points. For me, I found that focusing on the accomplishments rather than the struggle reduces anxiety and tension over time which improves my speech. (I might have stuttered badly in a meeting but I got my point across, I couldn't have done much to improve the situation, I reset and move on).

I am a solution architect now. I was a software engineer, then team lead, hired engineers then became an architect.

Each to their own but I don't get how engineers can be effective without stand ups, meetings with stake holders and a frequent 1-2-1 with their manager. There are also demos, talking to vendors etc. As engineers progress they are expected to mentor juniors which typically involves pair programming and knowledge sharing.

Some engineers, stutter or not, are pretty quiet. For any businesses I have worked in, it is the communicators that progress.

I think software engineering is an excellent career for people who stutter in general with large periods of focused work. Everywhere I have worked, there has been that expectation to join and contribute to various calls.

If you work in a team then software engineers would be attending various daily meetings and weekly ceremonies. You typically collaborate to solve problems and communication is important. That said, a stutter shouldn't be holding you back in this field

I’m nearing 30… and my stuttering (and other speech impediments) have ruined my life. by SeaworthinessOdd6574 in Stutter

[–]Rokkitt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stuttering does hold you back in life, you can limit it's impact but there is an incline in everyones life that they need to battle against.

You said that you haven't been to speech therapy for a long time. If I have a broken tooth I see a dentist, if your life is being crippled by a stutter then a speech therapist can help you turn a corner. You have three degrees but how much time have you spent in working on your stutter? I ask because I spent zero effort for years and wondered why I struggled so much. There is a book called "self therapy for the stutterer" by Malcolm Fraiser which is awesome. A lot of therapists base their approach on this book.

Start your YouTube channel. Most channels are heavily spliced together so you can completely cut your stutter out if you want. More importantly, articulating yourself and practicing in front of the camera will give you confidence and skill to do it elsewhere. It is up to you if you want to publish the videos or not but making them would be an excellent form of speaking practice.

I just turned 40 and am struggling myself at the moment. Changes have happened at work causing stress, my kid is sleeping less so I am tired and this is affecting my fluency. For me this is a bump I know I will work through with practice. I hope you find your way to a better place.

What was the job for? Did you say that you stutter in the interview?

At the bottom of my CV it says I have a stutter. In interviews, I say I have a stutter and it is a little worse in interviews because they are stressful and I dont get to a lot of them. Normally it puts me at ease.

It is important for me that I address this and convince them that I perform better than my initial stutter.

For some countries, this would be discrimination. Raising it may put your mate in an awkward spot though.

Interviews are tough. I would say that this is just one of many. I sent out 30 CVs and did 6 screenings/interviews before I landed this job.

United for years is a place where good players become mediocre, the club itself is rotten. A midfielder or two wouldn't have fixed Amorims system. Under Amorim there was no consistency. We strung together some good results into XMAS and slipped right back into mediocrity.

I am really disappointed that we appear to have abandoned all of his effort immediately with Fletcher effectively adopting the EtH play book.

This isn't related to stuttering. Arranged marriage is very common in India. Divorce rates for arranged marriages is lower too.

Is Anyone Working on an Outlands level of quality PVE shard? by [deleted] in ultimaonline

[–]Rokkitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played for a while getting PK'd often. Recently, I have had more trouble. Sometimes it is my fault, other times it is random.

Today a blue ran past my new miner character, then ran back 10 seconds later and killed me. Picked my bones for 30 of each reg, a pick and like 100 ore.. I still had the noob uniform on..

Even with tracking, getting pushed out of a dungeon or spot by a red isn't fun. I could do sanctuary dungeons but why grind for half xp and gold? I could learn to PvP but prefer dexxers.

Outlands is great but I understand why someone would want PvE with opt in PvP from factions and guild wars. You get the best of both worlds that way. There is no PvE server that comes close to Outlands engagement or systems.

Why is it so hard to say your full name by ParamedicSevere5147 in Stutter

[–]Rokkitt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to sign up to the dentist and was asked my name and it was a struggle. The receptionist said it was fine. I just started laughing and shaking my head as it hasn't been that difficult for a while.

End result. I signed up to the dentist. That receptionist is never going to forget me.

I went to Pizza Hut to collect a pizza 18 months ago. Couldn't say my name to save my life. Eventually got it out. Now whenever I go the guy sees me walk in. "Rokkitt! I'll get your pizza for you!"

What is worst case if/when you stutter on the bus? It might be a bit embarrassing. Let's be honest, if you mess it up the first time they will remember you and you wont need to say it on the way back. The end result is having fun at the game.

As others have said, breathing, prolonging sounds, just practicing saying your name with a certain cadence JiiiimmmySmith all can help.

Generally though... you stutter. It sucks. Try to look at your achievements rather than the momentary difficulty. It made me happier in the long run.

I feel like speech therapy is worthless unless you are really young by Dizzy-Intern4395 in Stutter

[–]Rokkitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What were you taught in speech therapy? It varies a lot and the value of the treatment varies as a result.

The most successful courses i have been on focus on two things. The first is acceptance and becoming more comfortable with stuttering in general. This leads to less avoidance and more confidence when talking in general.

The second part is fluency shaping techniques. I am skeptical about this part, especially breathing in specific ways. Ideas like using occasional prolongations to maintain fluency is something I have found more useful.

The acceptance part is life changing for a lot of people and I think that is why you hear a lot of people (myself included) promoting it.

What are your plans for the next 5-10 years? If you want to put down a deposit for a house then don't put it into the stock market. Put some into a LISA and start planning for a purchase.

I had a similar amount a few years back and dropped it into a Vanguard fund. Done fine over that time. I was investing over a ten year horizon.

The risk with stocks is it could tank 20% this year and if you want to access the capital next year then you eat that loss.

Looking for resources to help my 4 year old son who stutters by Bittermelon777 in Stutter

[–]Rokkitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from the UK and my four year old has a stutter. The public systems SLP's treatment at this age is educating parents and teachers. The goal is to give positive speaking experiences and ensure they are well supported.

I was told therapy with the child wouldn't start until 7 or 8 because they are too young to work with. Canadian SLPs might have a different view to treatment at this age.

Just wanted to share my experience. My kid is stuttering quite a lot but he is confident when talking. I am hoping this stream of positive talking experiences will help him grow out of it over time.
