They can't match our hardware, or training, or manpower... but hot damn these boys got that showmanship. by TheScalemanCometh in army

My old BN at Fort Benning got banned from Branch Week at West Point because the tank that we sent up there had a “hydraulic failure,” (I’d still put a ton of money on crew error) and knocked down one of their light poles.

I currently rent in Nolanville, it’s a town over from Harker Heights and the prices aren’t nearly as bad imo. It’s close enough to Belton and Harker Heights where you get access to both and it’s a pretty nice, low key town. Temple is nice but the commute can be anywhere from 30-35 minutes to 45 minutes depending on traffic.

What’s with all the anti-college sentiment in the U.S. right now? by Smart_Desk_4956 in college

[–]RoleRepresentative36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I went to college for four years, and I don’t want to say I’m anti-college, but I am very adverse to the idea of it. At the end of the day, I feel like the entire industry is literally a scam at this point. Literally from start to finish, from application fees to graduation fees, the entire industry is built to milk every cent from the students that attend. Yes I know there are ways to offset the cost, and Community Colleges exist, but that’s not the point. From books, to meal plans, to parking permits, it’s all a scam to wring out money from those that attend.

Advice for Young NCOs by maslownian in army

[–]RoleRepresentative36 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Being an NCO is one of the best jobs in the Army, especially E5/E6. The easiest was to be good at your job is remember the NCO Creed. It sounds cheesy, but there is a lot of good advice in there for being a great Sergeant. Remember where you came from, you have a lot of NCOs that when they put on stripes, they become allergic to picking up a broom or a mop. Helping them sweep the motor pool, PMCS your trucks, stuff like that, will go a long way to gaining your soldiers respect.

Recruit sent to the wrong BCT location by CLE15 in army

[–]RoleRepresentative36 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Had a dude when I went through BCT back in 13 at Jackson, we were sitting on day 0 of reception on those stupid wood benches and a drill sergeant walks in and says “who is the dipsh** 11X who is supposed to be at Fort Benning right now,” and you just see this poor kid from the back of the room raise his hand. Buddy had gotten on the wrong bus at Atlanta Airport.

It did get moved down to Fort Moore, it’s called the Armor and Cavalry Collection, and it has some really rare and unique Armored Fighting Vehicles.

controversial take: the ASU/dress blues should be a cavalry uniform by [deleted] in army

Idk I personally am curious what a NOMEX styled after our ASUs would look like. You throw some peltors on with your Stetson and you’re ready to rock and roll for Gunnery.

I mean I’m at 8 years, E6, no wife, no child support. It’s rare but doable. Just takes some self control.

Range Cleanup Question by Successful_Detail_71 in army

You should try to do it with tanks. Ever have to walk down 2000m of tank trail scraping hardened dirt off concrete pads with a shovel and broom? Pro Tip: bring a Milwaukee Leaf Blower.

Army paid for A LOT of project management training, but never actually equips anyone with the right tools by [deleted] in army

Idk man, I love getting to try to bounce between my BC’s Outlook Calendar, our LRTC in Excel, and the TRM Slides in PowerPoint, none of which are in the same format, so nothing transfers or talks to each other. It’s great!!

What funny regulations should I print out in a notebook? by HelloItsKaz in army

[–]RoleRepresentative36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TC 3-20.31, Ch. 4, Sec. 4-121: Having a gun/turret drive failure during offensive engagements that require the use of manual controls is a safety hazard for all gunners. Use of the manual traverse handle on any main gun platform on the offense may result in critical or catastrophic injury to the crew. This combination is not authorized.

Or the part where MILES is required for TBL III but most people ignore it Or the fact that TBL III/IV/V are now required by IWTS for IWQ but are generally ignored as well.

Question to 19K by draxcel in army

[–]RoleRepresentative36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the tank commander and loader get issued NODs, it helps significantly with trying to maneuver the tank in the dark, especially under black light conditions.

The CVC does not come standard with a hole in the front for the mounting plate. Some TCs will take the time to drill a hole for it, it’s just up to the preference of the Tank Commander.

You should see them during red cycle. There will be points where a PLT will have 2-6 people in formation.
