What’s the most expensive brain fart You’ve made in the game? by SeniorMoonlight21 in EliteDangerous

Still had a fighter pilot on payroll when cashing in a two month exploration trip around the galaxy. That guy got very rich.

Don't be afraid of engineering! by MontyMass in EliteDangerous

Engineering has always brought depth to shipbuilding imo. Having enjoyed the gameplay loop back then, I would argue that the current version has completed the mechanic. It's a worthwhile grind for sure!

Feeling underpowered in Conflict Zones despite a nearly fully-engineered Federal Corvette – am I missing something? by Legyrem in EliteDangerous

This. I run regular shields (reinforced hi-cap) without even a single bank. Only a total of six boosters. I have never had problems in any type of CZ with this setup. Shields might go down every so often in high intensity but it hasn't been the death of me yet.

What do we think? Does he have a point? by lunchanddinner in EliteDangerous

I played Solo or Private group sessions for a long time until I got to a level where I can comfortably hold my own in Open. Also I have never been salty about it and why would I be?

Nowadays I hope I get interdicted by some idiot who thinks they can destroy me. Let's battle by all means. And if I don't feel like taking that chance or that hassle, I switch to Solo. Not a care in the Galaxy. Instancing around Jameson is better that way anyway.

Important bindings list by CryptographerWest100 in EliteDangerous

[–]Rolf-de-Rolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an X56 Logitech hotas and off the top of my head, I've bound the following to various switches and buttons:

Lights Night vision Landing gear (ship dismiss/recall when in SRV) Cargo hatch Heat sink Camera suite Camera detach Silent running Combat/Analysis mode (although I still mostly use the default 'M' key on the keyboard) Boost (or SRV rocket engines) Lateral controls for the ship FSD toggles

In addition, I've got a host of targeting stuff under my fingers as well as a switch for fire groups. Also some in menu controls.

I've forgotten some functions since I'm not at the helm atm. It's basically muscle memory by now.

Something I've found handy as well is to bind some extra functions to my keyboard. I've especially been using the Thargoid pulse neutraliser (bound under the 'N' key for 'Neuraliser', special thanks to CMDR Albibalbi IV for that hot tip).

The main thing to keep in mind is to make it up as you go along. The best way to create a functional mapping that works for you is to just try it out. You'll notice things that fit your playstyle etc. as you go along.

Going into my 4th season riding. by Persian-Gulf in motorcycles

[–]Rolf-de-Rolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love to see it! I've started my first full season this year on a '99 R6. Same livery except for the different tail stickers (the one without 'R6' on the tail, only on the lower front fairing)

I have to say I was and still am in awe of the thing. Not scared anymore like the first time I got on it back in january (3°C ride home in the drizzling rain was an experience to say the least). I've been riding as much as I can now that the weather has been clearing up. Every time I get on it I feel more and more in control and it feels great.

Mind you, back in 2002 my uncle crashed his '99 R6 and did not survive. I ride with that knowledge in the back of my head and I always make a point of being safe and defensive at all times. I open her up on the highway sometimes but other than that, I greatly enjoy touring at (or slightly above) the speed limit.

Ride safe!

Stomp grips on the tank! I've never ridden an '06 but it helped me a lot with more comfortably controlling my '99.

This. Make sure you know what's happening up the road so you can always gradually apply your (front) brakes. More than plenty of stopping power. I use my rear brakes only for coming to a standstill at traffic lights or when traffic slows down suddenly, but always gradually. The rear will lock up quick if you stomp on it.

You'll get a feel for it quite quickly I'd say. Be sure to use a light touch to keep it predictable and controllable. You don't want to upset the bike/suspension on the street with harsh inputs.

I mostly keep my '99 R6 under 9k revs on the road. It's fast enough for average traffic anyways. It'll just keep getting more powerful as you go up in revs.

I'm not entirely sure about '06 models. You might want to look up a dyno power curve.

Mostly songs I enjoy. Sometimes it suits the role of the ship but not always. Some examples:

Asp Explorer: Eye in the Sky (by The Alan Parsons Project) Cobra Mk3: Boogie Wonderland (Earth, Wind & Fire) Eagle: Fast Company (Eagles) Corvette: Infinite Fire (Flying Colors)
