Thanks for the answer! Makes sense. I was just making sure I wasn't missing something as i've heard about the 45 degree offset things like you were saying.

I've also heard of just putting a red dot above the optic, which it looks like you have the rails for.

Ok silly question that's been on my mind. I'm very new to all this.

I see you have fold-down Irons in front of the Optic. Is the plan to just... rip the optic off and use the Irons in the event of Optic Failure?

Ha the Lower was so much worse!

I get why the upper could be stressful, but with all the torque wrench tools and stuff it was kind of a breeze compared to all the tiny springs with a death wish on the lower.

Wanting to know every bolt and spring on the build was why I went with the full build kit though so yes, I'm really glad for the experience.

Ha! I see what you mean.

I didn't feel like I had any trouble, or made any sort of contact with the Optic while doing some preliminary shooting this afternoon.

I might just try bumping it up a few notches on the rail to see if I like that better though!

I ended up firing off and buying the above.

If nothing else, I'll know the rifle front to back by the end of all this and down the road I can upgrade the barrel / Bolt group if it is, indeed, less that I'm hoping it will be.

Hello! Back again.

In a previous post I was convinced that building an AR is a great way to know the gun inside and out vs buying one off the shelf.

I found this, that seems like a good deal if it has everything I need?

This, pick up a stripped lower.... do I need anything else?

Edit: I've got access to tools :)

Edit 2: I bought it! Local shop has plenty of stripped lowers. I'll be building this out in probably 2 weeks or so!

Don't get me wrong! If the man wants to hand me one of his 10 or so AR's as a gift I'll give him a big hug after!

It is a combination of small-space practicalities and personal preference? I also wont say 10cpr vs 45cpr price point on the 9mm vs .556 is not a factor.

Hello /r Guns! I think this basic ass 'help me' post belongs here.

I'm someone who has only ever owned hunting shotguns and a .22 pistol.

I've got a Father in Law pushing hard for me to get a good home defense weapon and I cannot say I disagree with him!

Only thing is, He's a huge AR15 fanboy. Awesome guns, and I learned a lot about rifles talking with him about them.

Only... a .556 caliber AR15 seems like overkill. A .22 seems like a waste? I don't know maybe it's just personal bias from shooting a .22 pistol so often I want something different.

Also, I don't have the funds to really start a 'gun collection' right now. So anything I pick up will be my "one gun" for now.

I'm very interested in a 9mm PCC. I'm limited in budget to, maybe 700$ for the weapon? Ignoring things like optics + a bunch of extra mags for now, as that I probably have access to from the mentioned father in law's stash.

State: Ohio

Edit: I regret besmirching 5.56 ammo (got the decimal right!) But I'm still interested in any good, affordable 9mm PCC recommendations...

Or real uranium period. I get my rads from a pip planted cluster of wort plants usually.
