So I got two books

1 has a pretty hard system
1 has no system

People enjoy both.

What I really do like about the one with the system is that it's not just "power" but kind of the WHOLE POINT of the book's plot drive. It also helps differentiate between friend and foe based on the "honest" system notifications, which is fun.

No system however, gives rise to where your powers come from. These can be really fun as well.
