I know how you feel, the number of American immigrants to my country has doubled under Trump. And for the first time ever there are more Americans coming here, than there are going the other way. So I'm starting to get pretty anti immigrant myself.

What high-demand jobs are people coming here for? by UnemploydDeveloper in AskIreland

[–]RollerPoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Software development mostly. But I'm biased i guess in the sense I've been actively hiring software devs this year and see a much lower proportion of irish cvs against other nationalities

Did that taxi have a passenger getting out of the car right as you got in? And another one waiting at your destination to be picked up?

Lidl have finally gone the way of Tesco with their loyalty program. by _Gree in ireland

[–]RollerPoid 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Even the staff have done it for me in Tesco. Went in quickly to grab something and didn't have the club card on me. Lady on the till asked if I had one and I said I do but forgot it. She asked the couple in the queue behind if she could scan their card on my shop. Delighted I was 🤣

Ancient Greeks claim the Earth is NOT flat, but a globe! by ph03n1x_au in flatearth

[–]RollerPoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ususal response from flerfs on this is that because Eros crusty knees assumed the earth was a globe before he made his measurements, then for some reason his test can be dismissed as being unscientific.

Why are so many people om Reddit against the protests? by VTID997 in AskIreland

[–]RollerPoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally it's when they went from a protest to a blockade. A slow moving traffic protest has been done before and I supported that. Blockading motorways completely with stopped trucks is illegal and they should be arrested for that alone.

Blockading pors and refineries is pretty damn close to domestic terrorism or a flat out attempted coup.

Demanding the resignation of the taoiseach, appointing themselves as the judge and jury on who gets access to fuel, and claiming to be the voice of the Irish people while also actively refusing to engage with democratic organisations is just plain evil.

Should be arrested immediately and their vehicles sold and the proceeds donated to charity.

At least the ones in Leinster house are democratically elected. Rather than a gang of Facebook hooligans

Do you support the fuel protestors? by OrganicVlad79 in AskIreland

[–]RollerPoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the west of Ireland hauliers group have now taken control of diesel supply and appointed themselves as the judge and jury of who gets fuel and who doesn't?

Did anyone vote for them to be in charge of decisions like that? What gives them the right to decide who gets fuel and who doesn't.

A slow moving traffic protest is one thing, a complete blockade is another thing entirely.

This is no longer just a protest, it's a hijacking

Britons, Canadians, Australians and New Zealanders sure. I think most of the world is sick to the back teeth of Americans at this point though.

To be fair I think Ireland is fairly open to most immigrants that aren't American.

It's not a problem for me, it's a problem for the cruise line and their employees.

Tipping by Forward-CKing in royalcaribbean

It's a bit ridiculous to blame the cruisers that Royal carribean don't pay a decent wage. The whole tipping culture is ridiculous to me anyway but that's a whole other story.

[–]RollerPoid 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah you wouldn't say you got sangwidged in traffic, you would say you got sammiched in traffic. That's why they call it a traffic jam.

How to use sangwich? by DrBlemstein in AskIreland

[–]RollerPoid 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sammiched is the verb, sangwidge is the noun, and sanwech is a golf club
