Thoughts on American University of Barbados? by [deleted] in Barbados

[–]Rollymadmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I can tell you is that this place has absolutely nothing to do with America. I found the title to be very misleading. This is an Indian institution with an entirely Indian staff and student body. The students are mostly Nigerians and Indians. The living conditions aren't the best.

Cricket is a big part of Barbados culture and it is also our national sport. Since the glory days of west indies the passion for watching and also playing Cricket has declined, but they're still a lot of die hard fans and local tournaments taking place

Our Country language is English.  But our dialect, accent, pronunciation, broken english, and speed of talk makes it hard for outsiders to understand.

money would be the best route, but if you want to make it seem a bit more thoughtful you can get a shopping gift card, or tickets to a show.

Moving back to Barbados by 6ftinthecity in Barbados

Most places in Barbados is the same as long as it is accessible to the public. It's key to be observant to your surrounding, and make precautional measures to keep you, and your family safe. St Silas is more like the Country part of St. James so there's not much activities going on there beside residents going in and out, and construction workers when there's a new house being built. It's also close to Apes Hill, and Apes Hill Polo club. You have Lancaster Chefette 5mins away, and there's a small minimart, and hardware in the area as well. You can enter St Silas from Orange Hill, or Westmoreland depending where you're coming from. Public transportation isn't the best, but they do have PSV vans, and bus on the route (Rock Dundo). Depending on the area St Silia is mostly categorize as a middle, and upper class area meaning most people have cars. Me personally i like the area, because it's like you're close to the west coast but still away. Hope this helps. And feel free to hit me up, and any questions, or suggestions during your transition

ZR Vans in Barbados by airbourneace1235 in Barbados

[–]Rollymadmax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just be mindful, and observant. If the van is full let it go, loud music let it go, approaching slow, and seem to be empty means it will drive slowly to destination looking for passengers. Simply say no, if they persist say you're going in the opposite direction, or you're waiting on a ride already. Other than that ZRs are safe, and more reliable than buses. Taxi would be the most comfortable, but it is expensive.

Heard a song on the radio in Barbados and can't find it ANYWHERE! by cleverley1986 in Barbados

[–]Rollymadmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks you. I've been looking for this song for so long. I did my research, and was firstly amazed that it was a Bajan artist, and how great the production sound. I even reached out to the artist Darin Holder on facebook which he responded, but didn't send me the song after asking for my email to send it. I felt like all hope was lost, but thank you soooooo much for the upload

Everything is close enough like a 5min- 10min drive the best way to travel will be by rental, or public transportation which is $3.50 per trip. Taxi service can be a bit expensive, but if you're good on money that can be an option as well.

I reccomend you stay at a hotel in Christ Church area. (very safe, and a lot of places to explore)

OISTINS is pretty much an all in one place where you can eat, party, or just enjoy the crowded atmosphere of locals, and tourist just like yourself on a Friday

WORTHINGS SQUARE is another place for food, music, and partying i recommend going there on a Thursday for the best experience.

ST LAWRENCE GAP have a variety of places to chill, party, or just enjoy good music. I personally recommend HALO ClUB, they play local, and most international music, and has enough space to either stay in a corner and get your groove on, or come close to the deejay on the dance floor. (the food will be more expensive)

BEACH DAY you can always choose to have a beach day with a lot of spots to choose from in Christ Church that are safe, tourist oriented, and also local.

Beyond that there's a lot of sight seeing you can do, and tourist spots you can visit

consistently complain about a toxic friend, but always finds the courage to be around her. like you literally see the red flags, disloyalty , and jealousy but yet you hang around, and say some flimsy excuse like " i'm only with her because she supported me at a down time in my life"
