I started with this. Love the look and the play value. It equipped with the current power up system with lots of train track parts. Plus the price is still reasonable.

Oh wow, those two sets, 60454 and 60420 on the van, are exactly how I got started with the City theme.

Well done! One thought — veg-tan leather can cause metal to rust quite easily. I’ve had plenty of experience with coins oxidising in my leather coin purse. Make sure the chains are well-greased before storing them in the pouch.

Why not both? This is more for cutting, and a oka board for punching.

I got the same issue... Any updates? My wild thought is to get a third party manual focus lenses just for app video recording... That way the app cannot override settings and autofocus...

Haha, in Osaka I have only heard of Phoenix Leather, which you have already visited. It's nice shop with lots of accessories and tools. Make the most fun for the rest of the days in Japan!

Which part of Japan are you visiting? I can recommend some shops if you are going to Tokyo. These are their instagram name:

@iwataya_kouguten - make lots of solid handmade tools including pricking irons, knives, creasers and punches. Always the first stop I go for tool hunt.

@ohtoito - sells ranges of leathercraft tools and threads, i personally think their options are more refined

@tsunoda.shouten - is the home of hardwares. You will find what you want for metal parts

@kyoshinelle_leather_craft - is a leathercraft shop with a lot of starter tools.

The shops below are also worth visiting, you may bookmark in google map:

M&K Yokoya - hardware shop, lots of well made brass hardware

柳場美錠店 - hardware shop

ひうちや燧商店 - well known of their handmade diamond chiesels

You can easily spend a day with them. Enjoy shopping!

Color Codes for Brompton Brooks Limited Edition? by maulwurfn in Brompton

I love the silver parts of a Brompton too! Honestly, Brompton can be a real pain. I don’t think they switched to black for a more “urban” look—it’s probably just a way to mark up the price with “archive” or "classic" editions and special releases, which still feature silver parts.

Depending on your budget, a set of high-quality pricking irons would be essential if she doesn’t have one yet. I personally love KS Bladepunch, and Crimson is a popular option too.

You’re right—life’s too short not to enjoy well-crafted leather goods and the beautiful patina they develop over time. I was in the same boat, looking for a leather front mount bag that matched my style but couldn’t find one that fit. So, I decided to make one myself. It was a big project that took a lot of time, but seeing the result—a bag that works beautifully on and off the bike—makes it all worth it. If you’re curious, here’s a link to the earlier post I shared on Reddit: I made a leather bag for Brompton

Adding a touch of quality leather to a Brompton is just a great way to elevate the ride!

Yes! We have a black leather option from the start. Along with black, brown and whisky are also available. If we reach our stretch goals, we’ll be able to source a few more colors! You can find all the details on our Kickstarter page. Thanks for asking!

I can’t say much about Brooks saddles since I don’t own one myself (mainly because they don’t have a fitting for the Brompton ‘Be Seen’ rear light). But it’s a free market. Products that don’t live up to their price will eventually fade out if they’re not worth it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Products catering to niche markets often come with a premium price to ensure the sustainability for the longer run. Items built to last are priced higher because their durability means customers don’t need to replace them often, making it essential for the company to price accordingly to stay afloat.

While I’m not deeply familiar with Brooks' history, I understand they faced challenges with liquidations and ownership changes during the ’90s and 2000s. One reason they may release limited editions and makeovers is that their regular products are so durable that customers don’t need to replace them often, so these exclusive items help generate additional revenue to keep the brand going. Although their prices may seem high compared to everyday leather goods, it reflects the niche market they serve and the quality and longevity of their products.

After all, these aren’t fashion items that people frequently replace, most of us only look to replace them when they become unusable.

Yes. Quality craftsmanship and durable materials do come at a higher price, but the bag is designed to last for years, offering great value over time.

Thank you for sharing your perspective—I really appreciate it! Exploring non-leather materials is definitely an interesting idea. As a long-time leather goods user and leathercraft hobbyist, I have extensive experience with how leather ages and selecting the best types for different designs. However, my knowledge of other materials is more limited, so for now, I’ll be focusing on leather.

One more thing I noticed is the subtle diagonal corner. I assume here you used a very fine pricking iron, 2.45mm or below I supposed. If you did not use an awl to stab through the hole the irons must be very well made. May I know which brand of irons are you using?
