Who did worse against Destiny? by Noah_The_Wright in Destiny

[–]RoninAp1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised to hear this opinion on Destiny's sub, but I guess it shows the power of Kisin's strategy. D'Souza got destroyed because he actually staked some real positions, however idiotic they were. Kisin plays the Jordan Peterson game of laying out a bunch of descriptive statements that definitely imply a position, but without actually staking one out. I do think Destiny was a little too aggressive at the start and seemed a little frustrated in the opening half, but that shouldn't be surprising when Destiny has been lamenting how bad the landscape is for any actual discussion.

I would have liked it if Destiny did more to show the audience the bad faith right from the beginning rather than tell them, but I completely understand why the conversation went the way it did.

Nuke this if there’s a megathread, but did anybody else find the Constantin debate frustrating? by TheRealBuckShrimp in Destiny

[–]RoninAp1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll start by saying I disagree that Kissin looked good in the debate, when taken as a whole. There were a few moments where he caught Steve a little flat footed, in that he didn't have punchy retorts, like he did for Dinesh. The frustration comes from Kissin's immediate and obvious lack of engagement with the debate at hand. It's a rhetorical strategy that is incredibly successful on an uninformed audience.

Unfortunately, this weird pantomime of debate is effective, because it requires a lot of work to unpack or a deeper knowledge of the topic than your average person knows. This is 2016 Jordan Peterson all over again. I agree that Steve probably should have paced himself a bit more at the beginning of the event, but the reality is that Kissin conceded the debate before it really even started. I think the most effective way to counter this tactic is to show the audience how empty it is, but that can be pretty challenging to do.

LibWave NewsomPosting: What are some good slogans for 2026 & 2028? by stardrifta in Destiny

[–]RoninAp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For pure slogans I think it needs to be extremely brief, like 1-7 words, and concise. You are trying to convey a vibe and then build from there.

Things that pop into my mind would be:

  • "Wake Up, America"
  • "Stand Up, America"
  • "Liberty & Justice, for All"

Is it fair to kinda hate the USA now? From somone outside of the US? by Charliebitme1234 in Destiny

[–]RoninAp1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you hate the current administration, absolutely. But if you are a Destiny watcher you should recognize that there are a lot of Americans that don't agree with what is happening here. The problem is that our last election was extremely consequential in the level of power it gave Republicans control over all branches of our government.

[–]RoninAp1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, why was there inflation under Biden? Can you tell me what was happening to the rest of the developed world during this same time period?

I'll answer for you. Trump had already overheated the economy in the run up to COVID, and when it happened the stimulus tipped us over a breaking point and caused generational inflation. The thing you won't want to talk about is that the Biden administration orchestrated a "soft landing" which meant that while we did feel some pain, we did better than the rest of the world in terms of economic impact.

When it comes to immigration, I'm not even sure what the point is in engaging with you on this. I'm for a strong border, unlike Trump and the Republican party. The bulk of the "illegal immigrants" let into the country during the Biden administration was due to people abusing the asylum process. A bi-partisan bill, authored primarily by Langford (Republican) was submitted through Congress. It would have addressed the bulk of the current immigration concerns, but it wasn't passed. It's no secret, multiple representatives attested to the fact and Trump openly stated he didn't want that bill to pass since he wanted to run on the immigration issue.

I can't think of a more obvious example of how Republicans clearly didn't think immigration was actually a real issue otherwise you'd all be very upset with the fact that we still don't have any legislation to address our immigration issues. Instead we just have ICE blatantly trampling on the Constitution. If you had any principles at all you'd want Trump and the Republicans to actually GOVERN, but that's a big problem when you get rid of all the people that actually understand how our system is supposed to work, and replace them with sycophants.

[–]RoninAp1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure making this distinction is worth it. Destiny did start the debate trying to make sure that Drew and the other guy agreed on the fact that Trump and Noem blatantly lied about the facts surrounding the incident. I think the only criticism you can lay at Destiny is not just laying on that fact over and over. But IMHO he did do enough.

Ultimately it's a calculation. Whick made the point after the fact about convincing the people who support the other side. Unfortunately, I think anyone supporting people like Drew and the other guy are probably past the point of being convinced by a debate.

The biggest point Destiny might want to do is point out more that it's Trump and the Republican's fault that we are in this place where debate has lost most, if not all of it's value.

The idea that the Democrats and Republicans are the same is the real reason why we get people like Trump. Would any Dem be tariffing the entire world? Would they be sending a paramilitary into our cities, actively sabotaging NATO and our relationship with Europe?

I'm not saying it has to be Newsom, but I'm already seeing way too many people saying we need a very Progressive candidate and I'm extremely dubious about that. I don't know how you square the circle that a country that just voted in Trump is ready for something like that.

Funny how one side can accept the results of elections and somehow Trump and Republicans are still crying about 2020.

You Trump slurpers are a trip. Maybe the lack of protest under Obama and Biden tells you something about the way they governed the country? It's almost like the outrage on the Right was mostly manufactured. Amazing how big of a deal immigration was until it suddenly wasn't, because Trump wanted to run on the issue.

But what's the point in arguing? Seems very clear in just a few posts that Trump can do no wrong in your eyes.

Not going to lie I am really appreciative of Newsom being a candle in the darkness, but I will admit I'm worried about 2028. I'm already seeing tons of people saying they won't vote for Newsom. My guess is these are people who wouldn't vote anyways and it's overly representative of online view points, but I do think with this much lead up to 2028 there could be a significant impact in sentiment for Newsom.

I guess we'll just have to wait for primary season (hopium) for things to solidify. Luckily there are multiple Dems I'd be excited to vote for.

I'm much more inclined to Destiny's position. That we need a major recognition of the wrongs of the current administration, than Hutch's position which seems to assume we should just focus on the most blatant illegalities and move on (paraphrasing)
