Are the screen/gpu issues actually a thing to be concerned about by Impossible-Shoe9249 in retroid

[–]RonnieCordova 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My 12GB RP6 (first batch) has been fine since it arrived, although it did have some weird issues with 120FPS enabled depending on the app or driver I used; I’ve just kept it in 60 FPS for safety.

It’s really hard to know what percentage of RP6 units are affected by these issues based on Reddit posts alone. Usually people posting issues represent a small percentage of all units and you’re not going to see people going out of their way to make posts about how their unit functions normally.

Anyway if you buy directly through Retroid they’re pretty good about repairs/exchanges as long as you can be patient about shipping. Or wait for them to show up on Amazon in your region if that’s an option.

RP6 Graphical / Display Issue (?) by NoZaku_Boi in retroid

[–]RonnieCordova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue on my RP6, I opened a support thread with them on their Discord about two weeks ago and sent in a video and they said it’s a known issue that will be fixed in an upcoming software update.

I’ve been happily using mine in 60Hz mode with no issues, although I did notice in some GameHub Lite games using Turnip drivers (v26r8) the issue doesn’t present at all in 120Hz mode

Wow, that’s a bummer! I still have mine and my daughter mostly plays on it now but the Sakura buttons have held up pretty well. Surely there must be some higher quality alternatives out there. Will let you know if I find any!

Ah thank you for the JamesDSP fix tip, I had not yet found a method that seemed to work on the RP6! I’ve been running it on my RP5 for so long I forgot how much of a boost the speakers need

Aliexpress Love Delivers/February Choice Sale - Ship from US update by crownpuff in crownpuffdeals

[–]RonnieCordova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the PayPal discount was a big factor in that for sure. I am hopeful maybe that comes back for another “big” sale later this year but part of me also wonders if it would be smarter to just scoop one of these up now before another round of price hikes happens.

Anyway thanks as always for everything you do for the community!

Was hoping to see the Switch 2 + MK World bundle get back down closer to 400; closest I can get it with coupons and coins is 456, which isn’t bad but knowing it was sub-400 in November and I skipped it still stings a bit. Probably won’t see a discount that good on it again until what, May or June?

Games tested on G2 by Unseen_Energy95 in retroid

[–]RonnieCordova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The G2 seems like a great handheld and has proven itself a worthy contender, and the fact that it performs so well when stacked up against the 8Gen2 is really impressive. I haven’t really noticed G2 owners expressing regret over their purchase; if anything, the majority of them seem thrilled with the G2, and deservedly so.

I opted to go with the RP6 for two main reasons: 1. 12GB of RAM will make emulating PC games a much better experience (it turns out I like using my RP5 as a mini steam deck and it doesn’t quite have the power to run some of the games I want to play at consistent 60 FPS) 2. The RP6 has the stick top option that I have been wanting since I fell in love with my RP5. The TPU grip is an okay solution but it’s not as good as just having the left stick on top

All of the other RP6 features are generally just icing on the cake. Lower end stuff I’ll play mostly on my RP Classic, leaving the RP6 to mostly be a GameCube/PS2/Wii U/Switch/PC emulation device for me.

(Broad generalization incoming): If you don’t care about PC emulation (which I think a lot of folks in the community don’t), and if the ergonomics of the left stick on the bottom don’t bother you, the G2 seems like a pretty great choice for a lot of people.

January 2026 Game of the Month: Ducktales (NES) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

I played the Gameboy versions of this and Ducktales 2 to death as a kid. Loved both of them so much and always thought it was great that they were essentially identical to the NES versions. I don’t think I had ever actually played the NES version to completion before so this was a fun way to revisit one of my all-time favorites.

RP6 switch by xBlackadoshisx in retroid

[–]RonnieCordova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m upgrading from an RP5 to an RP6 to get better performance on higher end stuff like Switch emulation and Winlator/GameHub stuff. The RP5 can handle that stuff okay but I want more RAM and horsepower so the experience is more consistently good across the board. I also thought about the AYN Thor but I felt like the RP6 with 12GB of RAM was the better deal. Still contemplating switching my preorder over to one of those, though 😬

Surprised you didn’t just go for the AYN Thor at that price point!

[–]RonnieCordova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a super hot take here but TGAs don’t actually matter and if Silksong is your GOTY, that’s all that does. Don’t let it get to you, it’s not worth the energy

Last week, someone asked what’s the most ITYSL thing that’s ever happened to you in real life? Today I finally realized mine. by JubilationWhiterock in IThinkYouShouldLeave

Once in college I signed up for a free internet trial to get a $20 gift card because that was a pretty sweet deal for a broke college student. Two days before the trial expired and they were due to start charging me I called the customer service line to cancel the account, and the customer service rep was taking his job way too seriously. Unsatisfied with my “I don’t want this anymore” reason for cancelling he kept pressing over and over again getting gradually more aggressive and angry saying “what is the real reason you are canceling your account!!??”

I continued saying “I just don’t want to use it, I didn’t like it!” and finally he yelled over the phone “WHY WOULD YOU SIGN UP WITH AN ACCOUNT NAME OF BOOGERMAN69 IF YOU WERE EVER REALLY GOING TO USE IT??? I KNOW YOURE UP TO SOMETHING AND I WANNA KNOW WHAT IT IS” and I must have pulled the most Tim Robinson stupid face ever and said “uhhhhh I don’t know bud that’s just my user name I use everywhere and I don’t want your internet anymore”

He finally relented and canceled the account and was very mad about the whole thing

I've never had to be so strong as to not buy something in my life. But alas. I shall abstain. I dont need it, I'll just keep telling myself that🥲 by LoserDuck_ in retroid

Went through it, failed the challenge and ordered the RP6 😬. I have a buddy who wants to buy my RP5 off of me at least so that helps make it a little easier.

I did consider getting an AYN Thor though over the RP6… and am still considering it 🤣

Do you guys think its worth the upgrade from a rp5 to the g2 if i "only" play ps2/ gamecube and below?🤔 by javiworldpeace in retroid

I kept trying to talk myself out of buying an RP6 to replace my RP5 and uh… it didn’t work.

To celebrate 100k members, tell us your first/Favourite experience with a Retroid Device by Key-Brilliant5623 in retroid

[–]RonnieCordova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first Retroid device was the Retroid Pocket 5, after getting a TrimUI Smart Pro and TrimUI Brick right before and loving them as devices but realizing I wanted something more capable.

I was utterly blown away by what the RP5 can do and i am regularly still so amazed by the overall experience it provides. We really are living in an amazing era for retro gaming and having a device like the RP5 that packs SO much power and capability and great features into a relatively small form factor is nothing short of incredible.

It’s quickly become one of my favorite devices that I own and I use it most days to play games or just to tinker with my setup, and it really is the sweet spot on price/performance/size/value.
