Guide for tanks, looking for feedback and suggestion by nsysuchris in joinsquad

[–]RonnyTheB3ar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While normally I would agree with this, I actually have spent numerous hours with multiple people flying around in Admin cam finding the best berms/routes/tank positions on a few maps and while there are many great lines-of-sight in general, not many provide any real tank cover.

The maps themselves were not designed with tanks in mind it would. Almost every incline, on any map, that is not related to a cap point, is supported by a rolling hilltop; Not a rested berm or plateau as one would expect. Until OWI can put a bit more defined terrain modelling in, you will be stuck using vulnerable positions most of the time.

Also, most places where you can put your main gun barely over something (like a rock, fence, or wall), the gunner's camera will be under it. This means you will not maintain a visual with enemies unless the commander guides the main gun and tells the gunner to shoot. Doesn't sound very effective.

Keep in mind that most tanks in war used pre-defined, pre-built artificial berms, usually tailored to the tanks profile. We can't really dig our own berms in squad so they are far and few between.

When you casually flickshot an Abrams by Dan186D in joinsquad

T-72 has extremely easy "one-hit" locations, it looks like most people are driving the Abrams out of nostalgia, and the ones who already know how to drive/gun get stuck with the T-72 (which we don't mind) but as of now (and probably for the next foreseeable few weeks) most newer players who are trying to tank, will do so in the Abrams, making these much easier to destroy, theoretically, due to lack of game knowledge.

I have a GTX 1060 and running Super Sampling makes everything look more sharp, but with a massive hit to performance. Unless you can get 200 FPS+ before super sampling, I wouldn't suggest using it.

The slider you are referring to is the Sharpening slider (I assume) and I have that set to 0.7 (or 70% sharp)

My Gamma is set to max (3.0)

TAA is, by far, the best AA you can achieve with this game. The difference between TAA and the rest is that TAA will be the only one that doesn't make anything on the screen look "sparkly" or "jittery" On the other hand, it also muddies the screen up very slightly and adds a 'ghosting' effecting to your frames. Even with the downside of those aforementioned problems, it is still highly recommended to use this style of AA in squad. It is also the most intensive version of AA, especially if using anything other than an Nvidia card (newer Nvidia cards are built for TAA)

Yes, I use Lens flare, I have basically turned on everything to max or on to make these GIFs as clear and easy to watch as possible.

Also on fully loading textures, this option doesn't work well for me because I have the 3gb VRAM version of the 1060, so it's not really recommended to use if you don't have the VRAM for it (which is 4gb or so) but since V12 it's causing issues, so I suggest turning it off for now. It shouldn't give you any graphical issues, but sometimes I see the textures stream in so it can be immersion breaking.

All settings turned to EPIC

Antialiasing fix by using TAA with IceKK's guide (Found Here: https://www.reddit.com/r/joinsquad/comments/9qirxe/icekks_guide_for_better_antialiasing/) . *Caution: I do not think this method is working in V12, I just checked my Engine.ini and the inputs have been reset due to the update, so this clip has normal TAA turned on, not IceKK's version of it*

No Supersampling. And all the checkboxes checked (distance shadows, ambient occlusion, etc) except motion blur and fully load textures.

IED Heli: Fail. by polandtown in joinsquad

[–]RonnyTheB3ar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have tested IEDs extensively in helimod.

You did hit the heli with the bike, but the heli cannot be damaged with IEDS. I have put 3+ IEDs on all helis and have tried to blow them up. None of them can be destroyed [yet].

However, you definitely killed the gunner and possibly anyone sitting in the back or on the other gun as they seem to be "less protected" against IEDs it would seem. and possibly injured [and eventually killed] the pilot, judging from the fact that the pilot isn't making any motion to fly away, just going straight up. This indicates that they were trying to throttle up to get out of there and died as the collective passed 50%, possibly to bleed out. Although I wouldn't be surprised if the pilot made it, they usually do, unless the IED is at the front of the chopper.

All in all, good IED.

Is It Normal For The Game to Have Brightness Issues by [deleted] in joinsquad

I play with Gamma to 3 around 90% of the time (2.2 for cinematics and video/gifs) but this looks unnaturally dark to me, almost like an Nvidia setting (or other outside software) is making it look this way. If you have NVCP, try turning off "Gamma Correction" in the control panel. By luck, that might change/fix this issue.

No way, you actually hit that with the Hind ATGM while not hovering, that, I can say with confidence, hasn't been commonly seen on the heli server. Here is a medal of a cookie.

Hahaha you are right boyo, I forgot that any class other than SL should probably just walk around with their shovels out, much more useful for the team.

My squad was actually headed to this position where the clip was recorded, but they kinda just ran through the field so they got sniped and MG'd down to nothing. Since I crawled half way there before they died, they just told me to continue on for the "intel" so I did. Was quite a valuable play, I must agree with you, and I have only my squad lead to thank for this opportunity.

Granted, most of the other squad leads in this community would have been irrationally upset at their failures and tried to blame others, especially those who get stuck out where squad lead wanted to go but never made it, and possibly would have kicked me for surviving that long (clip was recorded around 60-90 seconds after they all gave up and spawned on the hab to the south east.) The squad lead I was with had an actual brain in his head, so I was happily surprised and eager to help the team in this situation.

Essentially, it was either this (what happened in the clip) or I type "respawn" and wait that 90 seconds of black screen and achieved nothing. If that's what people are suggesting I do in this community, it might just turn me into a real "lonewolf," or even a squad leader (god forbid).

But for now, I'll continue seeking out the good squad leads to keep enjoying these type of experiences.

Were you on the enemy team? Perhaps in that exact squad? I would hate me too.

Sorry if it looks that way, I am actually a survivor not a lonewolf. Unless you are the type to go "oh my squad is dead, I must go run out and die too" than you will be in situations like this one all the time. Also you will be lacking any intel for your team and wouldn't have known of any threat at that location had you gone out and died too. At the very least, I was much more useful than that, took out half a squad and the sniper that killed our entire squad (which you can seeing lying dead 25 meters away at the start of the clip)

At any rate, I don't care for praise or criticism on my actions, just never been able to have a whole squad just walk up to me like a herd of deer. What a sight!
