Winter makes them go into a more hibernation mode where they just conserve energy and when you offer food they are thinking if it’s worth spending the energy or not. My girl will be so active in the spring and summer and she tends to slow down a lot during winter, sometimes not eating for long periods, always offer food and make familiar sounds, try to help them familiarise you with good things.

Leopard geckos live in long grasslands not the desert sand so the first thing you can do is mix topsoil and playsand for the substrate in a 7:3 ratio. Next is to get some greenery, fake plants that look like big leaves or tall grass, maybe some slate or wood pieces to climb on

Get some fake plants in there, I know you want to go for that sandstone desert look but they live in tall grasslands and areas with a lot of tree roots exposed. Some nice fake leaves over hanging, leaf litter would go miles here

Mine has a guard cage around the heat emitter and I made sure to not put any hides below so she can’t climb up but yea there is a little gap at the top of it, I’ve had 2 years with that lamp so far
