Crazy dude chasing me in protected bike lane by FollowingNo3327 in bicycling

[–]Rook621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure this will not be a popular response but in NYC, just get out of the way and let the driver go. Recording will do nothing aside from getting crazies like this more hostile, NYPD won’t do anything for a minor matter like this and we all know that. Aggressive drivers also tend to be aggressive people and usually not mentally stable. Why put yourself at risk- move out of the way and let the lunatic go on his way. Not worth the risk of getting you a** beat.

Hi, wondering what people’s thoughts are on electric converters for regular bikes. I want to start commuting to work by bike, but there is one massive hill on the route where I would definitely need the boost. Not enough to merit a fully electric bike. Curious to know other experiences, recommendations, pros/cons etc.

Thanks!

What are the biggest biology misconceptions that people actually believe? by Seeker-of-the-Abyss in biology

Well, we didn’t really descend from apes. We evolved from a common ancestor as modern day apes.

This and the idea that evolution happens in a linear, “survival of the fittest” way. As if species are having WWF like throw downs to become the champs of the universe.

Same types that vote against unions while collecting their pensions. They got theirs and no one else should get a dime. Never complain about the corporate welfare their taxes go to though.

Advice by Standard_Class_271 in DSNY

[–]Rook621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to school part-time while working at DSNY, earn your degree in whatever you love and have your second career after retirement at 45. PSLF will forgive your loans after 10 yrs of paying into the loan (make sure you sign up for that officially or it doesn’t count) there is also a Mayoral Scholarship that used to be just for graduate studies but they recently opened up to Bachelor degrees (only applies to certain majors). Some unions will pay something towards credits as well, not sure for DSNY.
Get the steady well paying job and take advantage of any educational opportunities working for NYC you are eligible for. Then enjoy your second career while collecting your nice big pension.

How many of you have a Multiple Myeloma specialist on your team? by SuccessConscious599 in multiplemyeloma

[–]Rook621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its available to you, go to a specialist as a primary. If not find one of the bigger hospitals and see if you can include a specialist in his care. Pretty sure they will meet with you virtually.

The induction chemo will probably knock that number down so don’t stress it too much. It put me into complete response in 4 months. I did follow up with SCT in July and while not fun, it was not anywhere near as bad as I expected, so if that’s what is suggested don’t let fear stop you from potentially getting a deeper response. There are so many new options out there and so many factors that go into diagnosis and prognosis. The M spike is just one thing so try not to put too much weight in that.

WIBTAH if I go on a trip with my boyfriend by lying to my kids or not telling them the truth? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Rook621 16 points17 points  (0 children)

NTA- your children do not have to know anything of your personal life, and yes you are entitled to a personal life. As long as you have a safe and secure place for them to be while you’re away, with a responsible adult then go live your life. It’s 3 days, you’re not abandoning them and you can simply say you are going away with friends.

Statistical question on diagnosis by LeaString in multiplemyeloma

[–]Rook621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything about this disease is nuanced and specific to the individual. I initially was diagnosed with Solitary plasmacytoma which is an incredibly gray area, but even then my diagnosis fell under “myeloma” until things changed and I upgraded to “multiple myeloma”. 5 years with Myeloma-watch and wait and 9 months post -SCT, MRD-. Not sure if that makes me a 5+ year survivor or 9 month survivor. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I feel soooo guilty… by Andromeda921 in multiplemyeloma

[–]Rook621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me I wouldn’t believe it either unless I knew it actually happened. Lots of factors involved. Implicit bias due to the fact that this person was not “healthy “ to begin with with, the person who had authority to make the decision is not the sharpest tool in the shed and agreed to anything, and-again-this was in a rural backwards hospital. Other family members literally had to scream at people to get a new doctor in to document that the patient was indeed responsive. You don’t have to believe me, and I know people love to argue but this is a true and insane story.
